  1. Unless there is something new here, I believe this is in reference to a joke Braun made a while ago. Locking thread.
  2. Tigers former owner who recently passed away. I can't think of an owner more massively involved in FA signings in recent memory. Great owner though. I think it is rather irrelevant though. The names being listed are really extreme examples I think all owners can become involved sometimes. Attanasio didn't seem to be involved in the Cain signing nor trading for Yelich. Deep breath everyone. Ilitch was well into his 80's and bidding against himself he signed Prince Fielder when it appeared Prince's market was a bit soft. Ilitch's days on earth were numbered. He didn't outlive Fielder's contract and that's the point. He wanted a championship before he died. Attanasio is 60. He's got a few years. Reminds me of how Reinsdorf operated until the last year or two.
  3. Nobody has really done anything wrong but I think it's time we lock this topic and move on.
  4. Ford's 3 point shooting has been a surprise. I look forward to his development.
  5. In 2017 he was Superman in Mar/April, horrible from May - August, and then pretty much Superman again in September. I was actually surprised just how good he was in Sept. when I looked back at the numbers. He didn't hit for as much power as April but he hit the ball harder on average. Now, I'm guessing he probably faced more righties in Sept and sat against lefties (didn't have time to look it up) but even so, where do we think his numbers in a semi-platoon at 1B will look like this year?
  6. I originally brought up Dave Cameron solely in an ironic sense because his public comments prior to being employed by the Padres were anti-Hosmer. Not debating where he falls on the totem pole, just obviously an awkward situation for someone when it’s well documented you don’t think particularly highly of a specific player and then the team you now work for goes out and gives the largest contract in franchise history to that player. I think it is pretty clear the Padres interest in Hosmer wasn’t going to be swayed or impacted whatsoever by Cameron in his new Padres role. In addition to naming Hosmer his #1 free agent landmine, this was Dave Cameron’s tweet after the Matt Adams signing: Agreed. Wasn't calling you out specifically.
  7. Giving Cameron credit for this move is like blaming a mid level accountant for Enron.
  8. I think our league gives him hitting points if he's a hitter and pitching points if he's a pitcher. But it only counts based on how he starts the game - so if he starts as a pitcher and also hits you don't get his hitting points and vice versa.
  9. UW takes down Purdue! Kids deserved a big win.
  10. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter what Miley thinks.
  11. Everyone should worry about themselves and let HH19 worry about himself. And last I looked, this is the Alex Cobb thread, let's keep it that way. Well said.
  12. I'm suggesting you leave before I have to get snooty. Snooty?
  13. Every time I see his name I think of Abe Froman, Sausage King of Chicago.
  14. This is an underrated post. Agreed. We need a thumbs up thingy on here.
  15. Given his age, contract, and proven production I'm ok giving up Burnes for this guy. Figure this deal would start with Santana, Burnes, and then a couple other dudes (peralta?)
  16. That's a lot of heroin and cocaine. Nice knowin' ya Esteban.
  17. It's definitely him. Personality is the same, like when he threatened to quit Twitter when someone questioned him. Info still seems to be generally solid. I don't think it would be that hard to impersonate him. He was pretty adamant that he had no social media presence...would be weird to say that on here and then have the exact same username on Twitter.
  18. 27 years old, under control through 2020.
  19. Can we get Robbie Ray instead of Corbin?
  20. There's "ace" and there's "top of rotation". To me personally, "ace" is reserved for those elite guys listed above (Sale, Kluber, Scherzer, Kershaw). Then there's a next tier of really, really, good #1's like Greinke, Carrasco, Severino, DeGrom, E Santana, Verlander, etc. So to you only Kluber Sale Kershaw & Scherzer pitched like aces last year? Cause that is my question. That's how I see it. Others may differ with me.

  22. Kershaw, Bumgarner, Scherzer, and Sale right now to me are the only "aces" in MLB. I'd throw Kluber in there instead of Bumgarner at this point.
  23. I think he will be at least as good as Thames and Aguilar at 1b. Reach is really important in a 1b, and he can play an extra step off the bag because of his speed. That kind of stuff can compensate a little for a bad glove, and he won't have to throw much. He will need a lot of reps to get the decision-making down. ETA: I also am intrigued by having a fast 1b in the lineup. I think base-running value and range is something that analytics hasn't fully caught up to, and adamantly disagree with the notion that speed is "wasted" at 1b. Even if you don't care about the range and the ability to shift an extra step, the dude still gets to run when he's on base. This lineup could put a TON of pressure on opposing batteries and the benefits of that are underrated. Based only on the eye test, I actually think Thames is pretty fast. I'd be curious to see how he compares to Braun.
  24. I think the property manager part is key. You have to be able to pay them AND make a small net profit every month. Not easy all the time which is why a lot of people self-landlord and that can be a pain unless you are handy and have time to do all the work.
  25. yeah I have a feeling there's going to be a flurry of signings and trades this week.
