  1. I dunno...to me that just shows how deep the team is. You have a top 100 SG and a 7 footer that can't see the floor? The other 10 guys must be pretty darn good. It's a nice problem to have.
  2. This is a horrible mis-characterization. If Davis gets injured tomorrow and never plays again, does that make this a good trade? Point being that hindsight is 20/20. When Davis was traded, he was a decent power bat who struck out a ton and was a liability in the OF. The return was one of the better catching prospects in the game and a sleeper with potential upside. That actually seems like a pretty fair deal to me. If we are going to judge a trade well after the fact, then at least let it play out. Just because said trade does not fit a particular narrative about how one believes the franchise should move forward, and is reinforced by some flakey scouting report, does not make it a mistake. If you want, look back on my posts at the time of the trade. Davis' value hadn't yet been maximized but I sensed he'd put up exactly the type of season he did. It was totally predictable if he stayed healthy for the full season. I compared unloading him to the Bucs not getting value for Bautista and the Reds giving up on Encarnacion, before either's power had fully emerged. Nottingham can of course still make the trade even out but power hitters like Davis don't grow on trees. As for his defense, well Schwarber is a defensive liability for the Cubs too but they are a better team with his bat in the lineup. That's just it though. He's been hurt a lot for a young guy. The odds of him getting hurt and missing a decent amount of time were pretty good which would have killed his trade value. He beat the odds.
  3. 7th largest gathering of humans in recorded history. I had a pretty nice view of the parade from our office downtown.
  4. Absolutely! Occasionally I hear people say all is forgiven with Bartman now, forgetting the part where his life was ruined by Cubs fans. What happened to him was criminal. The mob mentality destroyed him. I'd like him to emerge from his new life and give everyone the finger while they look back in slack jawed confusion. Yeah I saw so many article/letters/etc from people apologizing to Bartman over the last couple of months it made me sick. So it took a good Cubs team for you to grow up enough to apologize? Morons
  5. I hope Steve Bartman gets invited to the dais after the victory parade and tells everyone to go fornicate themselves. That would make me feel pretty good.
  6. Now instead of lovable losers they can just be the team everyone hates.
  7. This would qualify....
  8. We got em right where we want em.
  9. Yeah it would have been much better had the Cubs gone up 3 - 1 and then lost in 7. There's ample room for humiliation though...Cubs fanbase is pretty confident going into this one.
  10. I've had a "Congrats, see you in 2124" tweet composed in my head all month. Tonight could be the night. Or maybe not. That's brilliant.
  11. Well Cubs can't clinch at home......so at the very least I have that.
  12. It was a good idea anyway.
  13. Not sure Cleveland would be ok with Bartman throwing out first pitch in their stadium but whatever.
  14. Steve Bartman throws out the opening pitch and it bounces oddly off home plate and knocks their game 7 pitcher unconscious.
  15. This is the greatest thread I have ever started.
  16. Better yet, runner on 3B forgets to touch home plate. Indians appeal, runner called out. Now we're getting somewhere...
  17. Yeah a Cubs loss is all that matters. No. I want it to hurt in the worst way possible.
  18. Found this quote interesting: "That name (Kieschnick) was thrown out there,” Flanagan said. “And obviously being left-handed and playing first base, you never know what you can do with that." Experience playing 1B... I'm thinking double switches, but instead of burning through a lefty for one batter, Ramirez could move to 1B if a RHH (or a couple of them) is up next, then move back to the mound for subsequent lefties. Also would not necessarily need to PH for him; he's not going to be a great hitter in the majors, but he can be good enough to save that PH for later. Stearns taking his flexibility predilection to a whole new level.
  19. Would it be worse if he had a perfect game going and a 1 - 0 lead then walked a guy with two outs and gave up a homer to lose?
  20. Or he pulls Lackey in a high leverage situation (say two on in the fifth) and it blows up in his face. Then Lackey goes on a tirade in the post game interview and a fight ensues live on TV between Lackey, Maddon, and a player to be named later.
  21. This topic came up with some friends the other day. What is the worst possible way the Cubs could lose the World Series? Kinda tough this year since Cleveland has home field so game seven would be there but... - David Ross pass ball to plate winning run - Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo collide trying to catch pop up bottom of the 9th in game 7 and both tear their ACLs - Chapman walks five straight to lose game - Bartman returns and does something weird
  22. Pitching will be key for them going forward. I'd be willing to bet they trade off Schwarber or Baez for some young arm(s).
  23. I feel like this guy is underselling the hit tool. His swing looks darn near perfect to my untrained eye.
