  1. I would be surprised if there's any philosophy behind it. They probably don't think it's a big deal right now. Or they've done an analysis with other teams and found that the Brewers are no worse than anyone else.
  2. He made Bauer's finger almost fall off! Kidding...think you have the wrong tweet linked.
  3. Nottingham went yard today: http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2016_10_17_srrwin_surwin_1&t=g_box&sid=l119
  4. I think they should be targeting guys primed for bounce back that they can flip for prospects. Guys with past success coming off injury are usually the best bet or the 26 - 27 year old AAA guy who is blocked at the majors.
  5. UW will be crazy deep. There are 9 guys returning that saw game action last year plus Pritzl and Van Vliet. I don't know how Gard is going to find minutes for everyone. I hope one or more of the sophs redshirts.
  6. Not sure if anyone is in central/northern Florida - especially on the east coast - but take care if you are. Even better, get out of there and get somewhere safe.
  7. When JM Gold was 19 he threw 111 innings. When Gallardo was 19 he threw 121 innings. But as for workload, yes it might have impacted things but again this is not unique to the Brewers.
  8. I don't think this is strictly a Brewers problem. It's a crap shoot. Get as many quality arms as you can and hope one or two of them develop.
  9. because it's not unique to the Brewers. PR/marketers do stuff like this all the time.
  10. I agree for the most part. My only objection is we should never assume it is just luck. I understand random variance but I don't believe it is that huge. Lets take the coin flip for example if I flipped the coin 100 times I'd expect it to land on heads about 50% of the time. I wouldn't necessarily expect it to be exactly 50% but the further away from 50% I get the more I would question why. Random variance means it could in theory turn up heads 100% of the time but if it did I would be very skeptical it was just random variance. Which leads me back to the idea that we should view what the record is as a very good indicator of the talent level of the team even if the projections don't agree. I don't expect a 72 win team to win exactly 72 games but I sure as hell wouldn't expect them to win 50 or 90 either. When it starts to get in to double digits off of projections I would start to wonder if maybe something was missing in the projections. I think that comes down to sample. 162 games seems like a lot but it is definitely not outside the realm of possibility for a team to be off by 20 games relative to their Pythagorean. It's probably under a 5% chance but 5 times out of every 100 seasons doesn't seem unreasonable when you think about it in those terms. I'm not a statistician but I bet you'd need like a 10,000 game season to have enough data. I wonder if you could add up all the runs scored and runs against for a team's history and get close to their historic Pythagorean?
  11. Yes they do. And I bet they sell a heck of a lot more hot dogs and soda those days. And I also bet that a much larger percentage of fans buy something from the concession stands those days. I have no idea why the profit margin is but maybe it's a sign that charging outrageous prices for food just because you can isn't always the best business practice. They may sell more hot dogs but since they are only $1 that means they are more than likely making less money. If they made more money selling $1 hot dogs, don't you think they'd do it all the time?
  12. Long as I can still get a brat with kraut and stadium sauce I'm happy as a clam.
  13. Could just be me, but I feel like Counsell really liked to pull starters early this season. If you weren't dominating getting pulled after 5 innings or if you ran into a jam in the 6th inning he wouldn't hesitate to pull you. This was really the case with Anderson and his stats will back it up. Look up his game logs and you will see he was often pulled early even if pitching well. Rarely ever threw 100 pitches and a ton of the times 85 or less. Not sure how this is tracked but I'd be curious to know what Counsell did during "high leverage" situations. Joe Maddon is notorious for taking guys out in the 5th and 6th if the game is tight and there are men on base. He figures the game could be won or lost in that inning and in that AB.
  14. Could those FIP to ERA numbers be the result of better defense? Small sample I know
  15. We had K-Rod for like 4 years so... Right but I like the Brewers. Ahh, the old "I'm ok with guys on our team with questionable moral fiber, but when they're on the other team, they're superbad." http://gifrific.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Ron-Burgundy-Stare-and-Nod.gif No, you missed the point. I don't like the Cubs. My point was that I could at least say that even though I don't like them they seem to be a team full of good guys. Then they signed Chapman and I can't even say that about them.
  16. Signing Chapman didn't help their cause in my eyes. I will never be a fan but at least without him I could say they were a decent bunch of dudes on the team. We had K-Rod for like 4 years so... Right but I like the Brewers.

  18. How does that compare to Khris Davis ?
  19. He must have been lower than 798 going in. I didn't even look.
  20. Guessing that homer put Santana over .800 OPS
  21. If they don't win this year that fanbase is going to go ape spit.
  22. This pleases me.
  23. Can Bill Hall pitch?
