  1. Knowing The Hurricane is 32 years old makes me feel ancient.
  2. Padres traded for Gary Sheffield. I don't think they regretted that move.
  3. Probably too late for a promotion but wow has Aaron Myers been dominant this year. He's 23...if he starts out hot at Wisconsin next year I'd bet he gets bumped rather quickly. Or maybe they send him to Brevard right away.
  4. I know it's not likely, but do you have an actual reason for "knowing" this? At the time of the trade he wasn't their number 2 prospect. I don't recall exactly where he was, but he wasn't even in the top 100 at the time and he was #10 in their organization coming into the season. Generally in the media, Brinson, Ortiz and a PTBNL was looked as an underwhelming return for Lucroy and a good swap for Texas, let alone throwing in Jeffress in a market that showed a lot of teams overpaying for relievers (case in point Smith bringing back a similarly ranked pitcher in Bickford PLUS a young, recently highly ranked catcher all on his own). I also don't understand the "if it was Mendez, he'd be a Brewer already" argument. It's been mentioned many places that the PTBNL may have been due to a time constraint, possibly preventing physicals from being performed in time. If Stearns then had the option to wait til the end of the season to choose a player, how awful would it have been for him to take Mendez right away and then he ends up hurt from a pre-existing condition that may not have shown up in an examination? I just don't see how some people are so sure without having any inside information. The best I can guess is it's to prevent themselves from being disappointed if/when it's not him. Again, I don't expect it to be him, I'd be thrilled if it was, but I'm also not going to be disappointed just because I'm allowing myself to acknowledge the possibility it could be him. It's just a little irritating that people with no inside information have taken such concrete and, frankly kind of condescending, stances on it. https://twitter.com/MLBRosterMoves/status/771456024674914304 Heres your proof, I believe its pretty concrete. Im pretty sure no MLB team cares about those online rankings us fans see. Mendez was going to rise, it was obvious with his play. I'm just spitting the obvious and if it irritates you well im sorry but i could care less tbh, its the internet. Yes it's the internet but we try to keep the level of discourse mature on this board. I like to think we do a pretty good job of that and why the discussions are generally drama free. Please try to remember that in future posts.
  5. Bradley's 2016 AA stint for the Braves was nearly identical to his 2015 AA stint for the Brewers from a rate perspective. We shall see if his improvement is real or a mirage. Maybe a change of scenery was good for him or maybe his luck just turned around. We shall see...
  6. I mean somebody has to post this:
  7. Methinks Aaron Meyers and Ronnie James Gideon have earned late season promotions.
  8. Apparently it was me getting lost Thanks for the reply.
  9. I've asked a few times if anyone has seen him pitch but I think the posts get lost in the link report so I'll start a new thread. Just looking at the stats he appears to be a K machine and doesn't walk many at all. Current stat line: 128.1 IP 141K 31BB He had a rough June and July but the K's were still there even though he was giving up runs. Has anyone seen him pitch and if so what's his deal?
  10. The thing is though, Jeffress easily could have also been drinking and driving sometimes here in Milwaukee, but he simply never got caught. Same thing with the weed found in his car. yeah I find the odds of him just going completely off the rails three weeks after leaving Milwaukee sort of slim. Possible I suppose but more likely he was doing stuff in Milwaukee and it caught up to him in Dallas.
  11. Guys, that's enough for one thread ok? Thanks.
  12. Hernan Iribarren is the only Hernan for me.
  13. Here is Hernan's HR tracker data in case anyone is interested: http://www.hittrackeronline.com/detail.php?id=2016_3592&type=hitter&sortm=date&sort=desc
  14. True. But I think if you made the stock purchase outside of two years it's less tax than if you flip it under that time period....or something like that. It's been awhile but with eTrade I believe I sold stock and it went into a money market which I could just transfer to a Chase bank account automatically.
  15. Yah that isn't a lot. Kiss 40% of that goodbye because the tax man came along. Suddenly that number is $11.4mil. That isn't going to last you very long. If he spent $500,000 a year on average that money is already gone. and that is pretending he spent nothing while his career was going on. He would have to live a pretty normal life for that money to last for the rest of his life. One bad investment could really tank the little he had. There are people that have blown $100mil in 5 or less years. I do not think it would take much to spend $12mil in 20+ years. I'm not saying you can't blow through millions. Happens all the time. Doesn't change the fact that it's a lot of money.
  16. Well if he lost a chunk on bad investments or was Madoff'd and has the rest tied up in real estate, whether personal or investment - he may not be very liquid. So instead of selling something before the time is right, he probably sold his stuff, to get some cold hard cash. Yeah I was just responding to people that suggested he maybe didn't make so much money during his playing days.
  17. Yount made almost $19 million in his career.
  18. Taking injuries out of the equation it's possible Weeks just didn't have a good eye. I think the easy road is to say that all his flaws were correctable and he was unwilling to change his approach when it's quite possible he simply wasn't as good a hitter as he showed against weak competition in college. From my untrained eye he was always out in front of breaking pitches despite the fact that he did have a quick bat and probably could have waited on them and mashed to the opposite field. To me that says he's just not picking up the spin out of the pitcher's hand.
  19. I swear I didn't see this before I posted. Should have just said "ditto".
  20. A lot of Weeks underperforming was probably due to injury. Peak Rickie was pretty darn good offensively and he lost one of his prime years almost entirely.
  21. Medieros.....no bueno
  22. Yamamoto has a really nice K:BB and K/9. Wonder what his deal is? No one really talks about him.
  23. I always enjoy reading your positive contributions to the board.
  24. Not difficult to imagine given this board. I have the morning off and some time on my hands so I went back and read through that Bundy thread. Literally two people (on an 8-9 page thread) suggested Braun for Bundy and neither proposed deal was a straight one for one. Vast majority of people were opposed to the deal. But you guys keep on keepin' on...
