  1. Congrats to Brantley on his first professional home run. Now that he has more career dingers than I do, I will jump on his bandwagon as promised.
  2. There are lots of MLB pitchers that started out as catchers in the minor leagues. Troy Percival comes to mind.
  3. He may be listed at 6'0" but he's 5'10" tops. I'm 6'1" and stood next to Curtis at a bar in Milwaukee and had him by two inches easy.
  4. Royals could make an argument but one of theirs is up already.
  5. Braun now 3 for 3 in game #2.
  6. Man when I first checked out the box score, I had to do a double take - thought I was looking at yesterday's. This team is a juggernaut. EDIT: And by 'team' I mean West Virigina of course.
  7. Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic that the Brewers are in first place, but looking at runs scored vs runs against has tempered my enthusiasm a bit. Below are the run differentials (i.e. runs scored minus runs against) for first place teams: Milwaukee -3 Dodgers +28 Mets +51 LAA +9 Indians +11 Red Sawx +41 To paraphrase Sesame Street, one of these teams is not like the others. Is it too early to look at this stat? Is mid season a better barometer? Run differential has shown to be a good predictor (the ole pythagorean formula) of wins and losses.
  8. Not that I was expecting to see anything, but the game log doesn't say why - just says "defensive replacement"
  9. I'd say Braun was more productive. Nice to see Brantley get some extra base knocks though.
  10. BC wins in extra innings. Cain crawls across the Mendoza Line. I ain't jumpin' off yer bandwagon yet, Lorenzo!
  11. Zach Braddock = Cinderella Man. This Power team is really exciting - and now they may even have another ace to cheer for. It's a good time to be a fan of the Brewers - from top to bottom.
  12. Anyone listen to the Power broadcast? Looks like there may have been a brawl - a bunch of ejections.
  13. So is Derrick Lee hitting like .590 against the Brewers this year?? EDIT: I was close - it's .545. 12/22 after that last double.
  14. Hey, is there a way to watch the game on MLB.TV if I live in Chicago? I'm on the road right now in Colorado and they aren't letting my login telling me it's blacked out.
  15. I'm hoping this thread doesn't go in the direction of "why blacks aren't playing baseball" as that was not my intent. My original post was more "ok, if blacks aren't playing baseball, why are there a lot playing at different levels for the Brewers?"
  16. I know there has been some concern that the percentage of black American players in baseball is way down but it seems to me that the Brewers have a ton of black players in their system (relatively speaking). At WV there's Ford, Brantley, Caulfield, Brewer - I wonder how many other minor league teams have four American black starters? Not to mention Cain, Jeffress, and of course picks like Weeks, Fielder, and Gwynn. Does anyone think this is a conscious effort by the organization or just the way things played out for them on draft day?
  17. 6 players in the WV starting lineup hitting over .300 and Brewer has been hitting well of late - could be 7 in a week or so. I'm now surprised when I look on the box score and Ford has stolen less than two bases. He has 11 steals already.
  18. Not sure if they need to drink to enjoy Hooters. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. That offspeed pitch by Turnbow is just disgusting. So far this year he looks like Gagne in his prime...let's hope his arm stays healthy.
  20. I dunno about that. K/9 and K:BB are good predictors of success....I agree that ERA and wins are probably immaterial, but there are things you can look at and see if a guy's going to be decent at higher levels.
  21. I wonder if Montreal would embrace a minor league club? Before the Expos, they were one of the Dodgers top affiliates (it's where Jackie Robinson made his pro debut) and I believe they drew pretty darn well for a minor league team. Although I could understand it if there was reticence entering into that market again.
  22. Great night for Parra. 7IP, 7K, 0 BB.....I would love it if he could stay healthy all year.
  23. I mean I usually don't swear at the TV, but the Brewers have looked so ridiculous in the field the last two or three games it's really hard not too.
  24. That BC lineup will be really tough once Cain and Fermaint start to hit.
