  1. If Hall played CF exclusively last year he would have had the 2nd highest OPS in the NL. If he had played any outfield position, he would have had the 5th highest OPS amongst any outfielder in the NL (if you include the AL he's still top ten). He's well above average whether he plays SS or OF - especially if they stick him in center field.
  2. To me a guy that is athletic enough to play shortstop should be more than athletic enough to play third - he just needs reps. The problem the Brewers face is whether or not they need Braun at 3B in the short term or long term. That is, if they feel their window is just a few years to win a lot, maybe Braun would be better serverd playing LF but if they think their window is longer than that than keep him at 3B.
  3. I recall Rogers was very positive about the need to change his mechanics. Maybe he has some 'buyer's remorse' now but at the time he was supportive.
  4. I think Suppan is an upgrade but the question is.....do we get Suppan from 2004 - 2006 or the pre 2004 Suppan? His WHiP wasn't very good with STL but his ERA was pretty decent. As has been mentioned, he may have been a product of a good STL defense. If he does not get that kind of support behind him in MKE, will he revert to his KC numbers? All in all, I think you have to take the risk - especially if you think the Brewers playoff window is three years.
  5. That's about the most apt description for 'filth' I've ever heard. Well done!
  6. I wouldn't call ERA useless - especially for a starter. But like any other stat it needs to be used in conjunction with other metrics. For a pitcher, that would mean WHiP, K:BB, GB:FB and maybe K/9 IP. I don't think any one stat is more important than another, but you can get a pretty good idea of a guy's worth by taking them all into consideration.
  7. EDR, 2007 is the year of the Chuck. And Hall was a below average SS when he first came up. Funny how some guys actually improve certain parts of their game as time goes by.
  8. How does Coors rank as a hitter's park since they started using the humidor to store the baseballs? I thought they moved down the food chain a little bit in terms of HR's and SLG.
  9. adn another thing.......you make me wann wretch!
  10. Maybin was the player I wanted the Brewers to take in that '05 draft - although I'm not all that upset with who they ended up taking .
  11. Teriffic Blazing Saddles reference!
  12. Well the Cardinals seemed to do OK with Eckstein and he wasn't as good as Graffanino.
  13. I reserve the right to be pessimistic given my status as a long suffering Brewer fan....if he suceeds, well, just look at my sig.
  14. Was that all out of the pen? I'm pretty sure he started several games for them. EDIT: Nope, it was all out of the pen.
  15. That NBA program looks like everything I learned in college.
  16. I think the only guy I've ever heard of that like guys running while he was batting was Tony Gwynn because it opened up holes for him. The thing is, most guys can't hit the ball exactly where they want to.
  17. Why didn't you just say the above in the first place instead of: You never made mention of his injured foot getting surgery, you just mocked people that questioned his defense.
  18. Yes To paraphrase, I said being crappy in left is not that big a deal, but if you are hurt badly enough (and Burrell has foot issues) that you can't play the outfield, the only other place to play is first base or DH. I don't see the Brewers trading for a Prince Fielder replacement and I don't see them in the AL. This is really all you had to post.
  19. Reposting for Thumperden (and Hauser)
  20. Like Tom Glavine?
  21. EDIT: fair enough, TC. Removing my post.
  22. While Burrell is an upgrade offensively over Jenkins or Mench, he is a hack in left. In and of itself that's not such a huge deal, but he has foot issues which mean if he can't play left he probably could only play first....and that ain't happening in Milwaukee anytime soon. He'll probably go to an AL team.
  23. I thought the part when Michael had to look up the pahses of grief on the internet was really subtle.....and if you missed it the scene wouldn't have been nearly as funny. Although the line, "My goal is that everyone gets depressed" would still have been hilarious.
  24. I think he's in the running for the Cubs managerial job (although probably low on the list of potential hires)
  25. Cool article, Mass. That last line cracked me up.
