  1. Congrats to Brian Dingo. He is every bit of the "great guy" portrayed in the article. I envy his job, but not his hours. Eventually, between that, family and pay, even the best come to the same decision(like Barko). It becomes time to move on with life.
  2. I will defer to the "small sample" guys, but this would seem to indicate to me that he is nowhere near to being ready to participate at the major league level yet. And, I mean that, only from the standpoint of being "rusty", not from a projected skill level. His number of strikeouts are uncharacteristic for him.
  3. I'm afraid you are. I'm sure the manager of the team would know how much his players are making a month. Don wouldn't have a reason to exaggerate the truth. BTW, I sure am going to miss that guy.
  4. Dhonks, who told you the minor leaguers make $20-25K? I asked my name sake about that years ago and he told me they make $800/month. Granted, that is low A, but the bump up in pay isn't that great from one level to the next until you become a six year free agent. Plus, they don't get paid year round by their American organization. If you factor out bonuses(which I am assuming you are doing), they don't come close.
  5. I would imagine it is Mexican or American currency.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Actually, that is a question I too would be interested in knowing the answer.
  6. I'm still trying to figure why we would need to keep a pitcher with a 3.86 ERA in low A, in his SECOND year mind you, "under the radar". At any rate, I would have no problem taking Liriano, Wise, Bennett or Kieschnick off the 40 man roster for the right player(s). The whole Kieschnick thing was fun, but a GOOD baseball team shouldn't need a "special teams" player to fill two roles in an average at best to subpar manner.
  7. I have to admit my jaw hit the floor when I saw the name of Luis Pena on the 40 man roster. Though I haven't seen Woolard pitch, the scoreless streak at Huntsville speaks volumes for itself. Plus, Pena has never logged a day beyond low A. Don't understand it.
  8. You are absolutely correct huntsville that I took Coop to task on tactical decisions(i.e. bunting CONSTANTLY as opposed to a hit and run, straight steal. Also, not walking a good hitter to set up a DP on a slow running catcher on deck with the game tied in the late innings,etc.). In my view, those are in-game decisions that greatly differ from base coaching, which is why I made the above-mentioned statements. We might differ on the weather issue simply because you are accustomed to the heat. If I am wrong, so be it. Also, if I'm not mistaken, didn't the three guys mentioned above play only one FULL season in the SL? Being there an entire season is what I think takes the "steam" out of these guys. I know in Nelson's case he was only given a cup of coffee in the SL the year prior due to his hamate injury. I know Krynzel had a hard time maintaining his weight there. I can only guess the weather had something(?) to do with it. Maybe not. I'm not typically the type to provide apologies for these guys, but I know I personally can only hack it for so long. But then again, I am twice their age.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/grin.gif
  9. Personally, I could care less if a "manager trainee" is a very good base coach. Should he have better judgement? Yeah. Is it frustrating while watching your minor league team at the time? Yeah. But, if he were ever to don a Brewer uniform, I can assure you he would delegate that duty and not pull a Tommy LaSorda. Also, at the risk of sounding like Frank's personal apologist, I have been to Huntsville several times. It is an incredibly humid place. I can easily see why players seem to regress during the season. Remember, our past chain went from Beloit(mostly mild weather), to High Desert(somewhat high temps, but little humidity) to Huntsville(high temps & humidity). For the first-timers, a meltdown is understandable. I am certain Krynzel's second half dive last year had nothing to do with Kremblas. Basically, a "manager trainee" should be someone who can connect with the players, serve as a good teacher/leader, command player respect while at the same time getting them to perform to the best of their abilities. I think he grades out pretty well and evidently so do others based on being invited to the Futures Game and managing winter ball.
  10. As banged up as that pitching staff was last year, I have a hard time dropping that all on Frank's doorstep. I have personally liked him since his HD days. He is very involved in the daily workouts and a hands-on teacher. Plus, as I cautioned people at the beginning of the season when everyone was dreaming about 100 wins, they played in a league with very good farm systems(Dodgers, D-Rays, Cubs to mention a few). It wasn't going to be the walk in the park that some suggested.
  11. If so, that would allow him to stay in Indy. He is a great guy. I talked to him in Huntsville last year for about ten minutes before reluctantly having to tell him that I couldn't remember his name(in Huntsville in '02, left in '03 and came back in '04). He was very gracious about it and we carried on with our conversation. He is the type of person any minor league organization would love to have from a PR standpoint. Gets along well with people and very intelligent.
  12. As much as I like Don(as my sign-in name indicates), I really hope Kremblas gets the job. I think he is better suited to be a potential major league in-house candidate if we ever chose to go in that direction. As a younger person, I think he relates better with our high-end prospects, as well.
  13. Like TGJ, I have been singing Kade's "praises" for several years. Good to see others on board. I am trusting that DM will find someone better than Mark Johnson for the majors. Doug, don't let me down.
  14. Well, with Coste in the Phillie organization, I guess we now know who will be the starting AAA catcher.
  15. Krynzel has been in the US lately attending to a family matter. Nothing to be concerned about.
  16. I will try to work on the Krynzel "case" and get back to you.
  17. I'm not a big Cooper fan from the standpoint of a minor league manager. I would love to see this happen and then elevate Kremblas to AAA. This would provide good continuity for Weeks, Fielder and Nelson, among others.
  18. What if each team was given an equitable, monetary draft ceiling as a result of the next CBA? Do you think this would help matters? In this way, if a large-market team wanted that prized Boras-represented player, they could have him, but at the cost of not being able to afford to sign other picks. They would essentially mortgage their draft on the outcome of fewer players. I haven't given this a great deal of thought, just came to me. But, at the very least, seems to be better than our current "system."
  19. It is great to see these major league teams say "I don't think so," to the dillusionary draft picks. It is about time they take a stand and make these kids understand that yes, the team does have other options, and no, they are not held prisoner to you(meaning the draftee). I hope the vast majority of these kids who recently refused contracts fall the way of Matt Harrington. Perhaps, only then, will they(and their agents) realize that a fair offer beats the heck out of saying "would you like fries with that." BTW, I can't help but wonder if these kids can claim collusion in the same manner as the big league guys. Anyone know for sure?
  20. Considering that virtually all of our minor league sites are now located in the Southeast, does anyone else have a hint of skepticism about the reason for leaving?
  21. These kids get too damn much money as it is. Hopefully, with the next MLB CBA, the major league guys will step up and make an issue of the bonuses that are stealing money away from the guys who are actually in the major leagues. Someone within the union needs to make a stand like the guys in the NBA did when they realized the unproven were stealing from the pockets of the veterans. Think of all of our wasted bonus money lately(Gold, Neugebauer, Carter, Murray, Carpenter, etc). This is mostly on guys who didn't get beyond class A!! Like Al said, this has all the makings of a Matt Harrington situation. If he wants to roll the dice for a few extra hundred thousand dollars, lose time developing and time value of money, all power to him. It's his decision, he knew the risk involved, the NCAA understandably wants to avoid a situation where people declare and return and now he must live with those circumstances. I just hope he isn't majoring in financial management.
  22. Perez is already a good major league pitcher. JDLR aspires to be one. Can't agree with you more, Kat.
  23. The bottom line endaround is the kid EARNED a look. HE was lights out down the stretch and lets take a roll call on all left-handers throwing 95+. I don't see many hands. I'm not sure what more reasons are needed. Plus, we are talking about someone who held the Cards to two runs in five innings on a night they were looking to clinch the division, so he didn't exactly embarrass himself. His ERA wasn't good due to a horrible start, but his upside is far superior to Travis Phelps. September is an excellent time for teams like us to evaluate what we have coming and what holes remain within the organization. This just seems like a "no brainer" to me.
  24. Plus, why in the he!! would you NOT want to promote the kid for September as a call-up. He was part of a major trade and ,as mentioned by someone else, had a nice stretch of outings during the final month or so. Let's see, what(if anything) we can expect from him in the immediate to not to distant future. What is lost by doing this?
