  1. I don't see Ryan in the Huntsville lineup. Did I miss something or he is somehow in Frank's doghouse?
  2. I would be lying if I said I am an optimist by nature. I tend to evaluate things at face value. However, I do think a few people are unnecessarily jumping ship on the minor league teams. Let's evaluate: AAA- Hardy lost due to shoulder injury. Krynzel lost due to foot injury. Lots of movement back and forth with parent club regarding pitching staff. AA- Jones, Ford, Shelley, Miller and Parra all lost from pitching staff for majority of season due to injury. No depth in lineup. A+- What can you say? They will always be treated like the ugly step sister. A- They were hampered by a slow start by Moss and Murray early in the season. Those players became injured and were replaced by more productive players. They have returned to the lineup and are starting to resemble the players they were expected to be. Also, the Snappers are gradually abandoning the "piggyback" system. By extending the pitchers, the Snappers should be able to take advantage of their depth in the second half. Only concerns among the pitching ranks is one person has yet to truly emerge as THE guy and the closer situation is a little tenuous. I will be disappointed if they aren't in the second half playoff race. I'm sure I didn't touch on everything. However, these are valid reasons(not excuses, with the possible exception of the Snappers) for these teams not performing to expectations. If we are healthy and not winning in the second half(except HD), we might have a reason for complaint. For right now, we unfortunately need to be patient.
  3. As mentioned in another thread, it's the lure of the turtle. Everyone aspires to be a Snapper, but only a chosen few get to realize that dream.
  4. Once they show him the turtle on the Snappers uniform he will be as good as signed. Aint no resisting Snappy!
  5. I will be stunned if he sees Beloit this year. Way too early.
  6. Since Jared Washburn takes five minutes in between pitches, I went to bed in the fourth inning(think it was 6-2 at the time). How in the hell did Santos give up 13 hits, 2 walks and only 2 runs? Did we complete all five double plays in his six innings? If so, that's incredible and lucky.
  7. meaning the dinosaur or Chris Barnwell?
  8. Either way, it's not going to make a great deal of difference, except to the people of Huntsville(who understandably want a better bat than Alvarado). For Kade's "production," we can always bring back the younger Kremblas. I trust that wouldn't be a tough negotiation.
  9. When I brought up Fielder's "work habits" last year as a Snapper, I got blasted. While we were on vacation in Huntsville, there were MANY times he chose not to run out groundballs. I don't know if d money(no relation) still has this policy, but all Snappers used to get fined if they didn't run to first at or under five seconds. If you fell on your butt while swinging, too bad. No exceptions. Perhaps, Kremblas needs to consider instituting a similar procedure. However, I don't think Huntsville fans should be hanging Frank. That team has obvious, glaring weaknesses. Their lineup after the five hole stinks. Their bullpen, minus Novinsky, is deplorable. They have been in a constant state of flux between trades, demotions/promotions and, most prominently, injuries. It's difficult to win close games under those circumstances. The SL is very competitive this year. The Jacksonville team we saw would have a good chance of beating a healthy Stars team in a long series. Birmingham lacked overall team balance, but their pitching was awfully good. Someone mentioned TGJ had good work habits. I couldn't agree more. In the five days we were there, I "caught" him in the cage twice. He does take his craft seriously. I cannot comment on Weeks work habits as he wasn't in Beloit long enough last year and didn't play much due to injury while down south. But, like last year, I wouldn't mind if someone got in Prince's ear. This is getting way off the beaten path, but that is another reason why high draft picks should get less money up front. The "carrot" is no longer in front of them, its already in their back yard(pocket).
  10. are getting healthy off a bad pitching staff. The ERA's of Dayton's starting pitchers for the last two nights have been horrible. It's nice to see Ramirez and Moss hitting, but I think we will have to wait to see after this series if it is a function of bad pitching or improved hitting.
  11. No man crush on Mike Adams here. He is at his very ugliest right now. Mike, please get rid of the facial hair. You look much better without it. But, he sure is getting the job done. I don't know if the 7 flyouts were by design(considering PetCo's dimensions) or not. That isn't necessarily a good MO at MP. I told my wife last night as I was watching the latter part of the game seven hours before having to come into work this morning how nice it is to feel compelled to actually watch the end of a late night West Coast Brewer game. Can't honestly remember the last time I felt that way. I saw the end of one LA game this week, as well. Now, could we just get Bill Hall in the game to take advantage of those spacious gaps in SD.
  12. No problem getting Johnson back. I'm just holding my breath on Bausher.
  13. My goodness, is Guilder still in d money's(no relation) doghouse? If he was their bullpen catcher on Sunday, I can't imagine he is too injured(if at all).
  14. Madbad, I am way on board with you in regard to Manny's "defense" at 1B. He kinda reminds me of a little leaguer in regard to how close he snugs the bag while in the field. Not as bad as say a Daryl Clark with the hands, but not too many rungs behind.
  15. The timing of his announcement is very intriguing to say the least. He is coming off of two consecutive solid outings and makes the announcement the day after pitching in a game. You would think if his heart wasn't in in, he wouldn't have bothered going to the mound. This has all the smell of a personal matter. Obviously, we have to respect that, but it is unfortunate for him and the organization.
  16. has been "under the knife" several times. Evidently, all those surgeries took a toll. Can't imagine we drafted him that high with that velocity.
  17. He is on pace to make about ten less errors than last year. He showed good range as a Snapper. He just wasn't very sure-handed. Perhaps, Callix is making strides in this area.
  18. was pitching in the low 80's in Beloit last year. Yes, he has a wicked move to 1B. In fact, last year, he picked off two consecutive runners at first in the same inning after giving up hits. His promotion was one driven more by age than performance. I wouldn't pin too many hopes on him. Regardless, he will do just fine in life as he is an extremely bright kid.
  19. Since I was probably in the minority when it came to not wanting to trade for Milton Bradley, I am hard-pressed to defend him. However, IMHO, an umpire should walk toward the dugout at the time of the bench jockeying to diffuse the situation, rather than waiting for the the guy to come to the plate. Granted, that didn't warrant the reaction. However, overall, I would grade Terry Craft's performance rather low. He was squeezing Davis and Weaver all night. Someone mentioned Doug throwing for a low percentage of strikes. With the strike zone Craft allowed, it was difficult to do much better.
  20. Someone mentioned his versatility. One of the items I forgot to include in my Sights & Sounds of Huntsville thread is that one of the bullpen pitchers told me Raburn throws 90mph. So, when you see his name in a pitching line, the opponent isn't hitting off some knuckleball throwing bench player.
  21. How about if someone who supported trading for him defends their argument now? All I remember is conversation to the effect that we can't have all choir boys.
  22. goes for the Snappers tonight. He told me so last night. Hopefully, he is up to the challenge. I told him the next four games will give them a good idea how they stack up in the league.
  23. It's hell to get old, you forget what you want to say. At any rate, I counted at least three balls yesterday that a more rangy and quicker SS would have at least prevented from going into the outfield that Murray didn't touch. Not so sure his future(assuming there is one) is at that position. Others have mentioned a possible switch to 3B. Based on what I saw yesterday, that might not be a bad long-term idea.
  24. I forgot to mention (again) how much I hate the piggyback system and how Don misuses it. Why, when you are fighting for a playoff spot, do you have Eveland pitch two innings of the first game and hand over the entire second game to(IMHO) an inferior pitcher like Morreira? Makes no sense.
  25. I was going to bring up Guilder's "grounding" by d money(no relation) but you beat me to the punch. I can't help but wonder if he missed a sign in the 9th on Friday and bunted when he should have done something else. Undoubtedly, the guy cost us a game, but I don't think PHYSICAL errors deserve that type of punishment. The kid has been pretty solid all year. Therefore, maybe(?) a mental error put Don over the edge. Just guessing.
