  1. Nick Ramirez should be a September call up shouldn't he? What more does he have to do? Plus he give them another PH option. Certainly he's more worthy of a 40 man spot than Espino.
  2. Walker fits but why go halfway? Granderson cleared waivers. Go get him. Give yourself a chance on this make or break west coast trip that's coming up.
  3. Hader's command issues are not so severe that they cannot be overcome. The numbers don't show it as much but Sale had some command issues early on too as did Johnson. In fact some wildness can be an asset. It makes hitters a little skittish. Hader's delivery is similar to Sale's and his stuff is close. Nobody is saying he's the next Sale nor certainly not Johnson who was unique but his ceiling is too high not to see how he can do as a starter. They have the luxury to make that move and see. If the 2018 season started tomorrow I'd go with Anderson, Nelson, Davies, Woordruff and Hader. Things almost never work out that simply due to injuries etc. so it's almost impossible to predict. Brewers easily have 4-5 other options at this point. Who those guys are will likely change between now and spring too with trades, FA additions etc.
  4. The Brewers have a critical road trip coming up. Walker was likely acquired to see if he could give them an offensive spark heading into that trip. If they lose a lot of ground, I would expect that Walker will be moved again before end of August. Not that Walker wouldn't be a bad target in FA this winter.
  5. Phantom starter injury with off days looming. Tells me Walker could be flipped by Aug. 31.
  6. I really think Phillips needs to be with the big club. He looked settled in the last time (more so than Brinson). I'm still wary of the K's but he's got better minor league pedigree than Broxton and is a LH bat.
  7. Why would they DFA him? Who plays 2b next year? It's not like we won't have the payroll flexibility for his first arby year, even as depth of he doesn't return to form. Because they can't go into 2018 with him as the nominal starter after the season he had in 2017. He has next to no value as a utility player. Heck he can't play one position well, much less multiple positions. They'd love to be simply able to option him but he's out of options. There's 2 options right in front of them in FA in Walker and Sogard and multiple veterans out there. Kinsler will be a FA. Phillips is a FA. Kendrick is a FA. Forsythe is another though he's got a team option. Same goes with Jed Lowrie. Maybe Brett Lawrie tries a come back. Perez is an option. Dubon is an option. DeJesus is an option.
  8. I think Villar will get DFA'd and they'll have 10 days to work out a trade. But if they couldn't trade a reliable, controllable reasonably priced Gennett this spring, I don't think the market will be strong for Villar, especially since he's out of options. Maybe they can assign him if there are no teams out there willing to give him a 6 week trial. There's no way they were going to go into 2018 with Villar penciled in as starter at 2B. His lack of options means he moves on. That's the risk you take with trading for out of options players who aren't established. Who starts at 2B next year? They'll have internal options, and some in FA.
  9. If the current collapse carries through September, and they lose 90 games after being 11 games over .500 in July, will they do what they should have done with Roenicke after the 2014 collapse and hold him accountable? Or will he be granted the immunity and lack of accountability that goes with a rebuilding franchise.
  10. Twins played the Brewers 4 times.
  11. Laughing all the way to bank is Scooter Gennett. Brewers have now gone through Villar, Franklin, Sogard, and Walker trying to replace him. Meanwhile Scooter figures to get a huge bump in pay in arbitration.
  12. There are college players that come out of college nearly ready for majors. Paul Molitor was one. Braun was another. Hiura by most reports was the best hitter in all of college baseball. He's done nothing to disprove that as a professional.
  13. Agreed. Too little too late. They needed a move that moved the needle in mid July. A move that doesn't move the needle and comes a month late? Yawn. Unless Verlander suddenly shows up and a quality bat in CF is acquired in the next couple days, why bother? Maybe Walker gets moved again at the end of August?
  14. For the next 6 weeks I'd take my chances with Bruce over either Braun or Santana. What have either Braun or Santana done the last few weeks?
  15. Defensive metrics that show Scooter as below average are the same ones that show Villar to be above average. My eyes tell me just the opposite. I trust my eyes.
  16. Suter and Garza both made strong cases for removal from rotation when Anderson returns. Will likely come down to one more start for each. Suter has some value out of the pen. I imagine if Garza doesn't bounce back, they'll bring back Guerra or look at Jungmann or some other guys in September.
  17. Yep just throw in the towel a game and a half back. Why bother playing at all? Forfeit this rest of the season and 2018.
  18. Fine. One start isn't likely to change his overall value very much. You're right. He had little to no value before last night and little to no value now. Even when his starts go okay, he rarely gets through 6 innings. Almost every team has young arms they'd want to look at before picking up a Garza.
  19. Villar's value is nearly nil now. Can't see him getting arbitration offer from anyone after this trainwreck of a season. I just threw him in there rather than releasing him when Lowrie or another 2B comes aboard. Lowrie is a fine stopgap paired with Perez until Dubon or Hiura takes over full time a year or so from now.
  20. Thought I'd add him to the list of potential 2B trade candidates. He's having a pretty solid year with OPS vs. RHP above .800 and carries a not too outrageous $6 million option for 2018. Stearns likes doing business with Oakland too. Villar and a low level lottery guy or an aging "prospect" like Jungmann or Wilkerson?
  21. Confirmation for what we already knew in this game:. Santana is a horrible outfielder. Drake is bad. New tonight is Susac is worst pitch framer we've ever seen.
  22. That's old school baseball. The manager's boss is a kid.
