  1. Sky Sox already having some fun at expense of former Brewer Tyler Wagner.
  2. Broxton is 27. If he were 24 and they didn't have a top 20 prospect in the game performing well at the highest level in the minor leagues who just happens to play his position, then maybe you stick with Broxton. The argument that this is a rebuilding year as an excuse is ridiculous. They are in a pennant race with an underperforming CF already. The sooner Brinson adjusts to major leagues, the sooner he's helping this team compete.
  3. If indeed Bronson is a top 20 prospect, there's absolutely no reason for him to be blocked at this point by Broxton. If he's not a top 20 prospect then we've all been sold a bill of goods.
  4. Isn't it about time for Wang? Lefties are batting .139 off him in AAA. Sure Drake has nice reverse splits, but having a lefty arm in the pen would be nice to have. He's allowed one earned run in his last 10 games (0.71 ERA)
  5. I've always thought Scooter to be more athletic and had a stronger arm than he was given credit for and pound, for pound he generates a lot of bat speed. I saw, that in the on deck circle doing practice swings as a rookie.
  6. I would DFA Franklin, add Woodruff for 2 starts then option both Phillips and Woodruff when Braun and Garza come off the DL
  7. He's posted a positive WAR every year (2013-2017) he's been in the league and he's still just 27. You simply don't just waive guys like that and he's proving this season he's got the versatility to be a utility player too. There's something to be said about performing to a respectable level year in and year out, and Gennett's done just that.
  8. I'd be fine if they bring back Braun and keep Phillips and DFA both Franklin and Villar. I'm not on board with Phillips around taking AB's from Perez though. Assuming Braun ever gets 100% healthy, finding playing time for one their more productive hitters in Perez is going to be hard enough.
  9. You had me until the suggestion of moving Villar back to short. Please no. Perez would be the logical stopgap there as he would not be needed in that outfield.
  10. My biggest concern about Phillips are his high strikeout totals too. Broxton has a good enough glove and does just enough offensively to hold his job for now. When Brinson arrives that might be another matter.
  11. Why stop at a couple days? Why not a month? The 1980's were the middle ages? Oh yeah the feminization of America is a 21st century thing.
  12. In all the excitement let's not forget not having Shaw in the lineup for any amount of time is a significant loss. Call me old school if you want but these guys get paid very well to show up 162 days.
  13. There's plenty of options for opening a roster spot for a guy that under any circumstances would likely have one in September. That being said, Hader only was used for 2 innings and could be ready by Thursday as well.
  14. Is this from TH? Counsell? Both. TH asked Craig after the game, said Garza feels awful, like he was in a car crash. If he's going to miss even one start no reason not to DL him. His starts line up with Woodruff, so we can dream, but I'd bet highly on it being Espino. I'll take that bet. Espino is listed as Colorado Springs' starter today. Don't read too much into his use for a one time spot start last month. He's still a 30 year old who's not really a future rotation piece. Woodruff makes sense on a lot of levels. It's a perfect time to get a look at where he's at, so even if he goes right back down, he'll have planted a seed for the not too distant future with a solid performance.
  15. The blown saves are one thing but guys like Hughes and his 1.69 WHIP and Drake who can't get out RH hitters are a big part of the problem too. Time to look at other options. Cravy, Wang, Archer, Blazek? Matt Ramsey? They can't be worse can they?
  16. If they had the level of success provided by Jeffress and Thornburg closing games last year they'd be 5-6 games in front.
  17. Don't get me wrong, that was a terrible play, but it was still followed by walk, single, walk, homerun. We lost because of terrible pitching. You're missing the point. Aguilar's boneheaded play took an out off the board and put undue stress on your third string closer against a premier team. If there's two outs and a runner on second, up by 3, then Torres isn't under the gun and the Dodgers aren't energized. I was there. The game changed on that play. All that followed was totally predictable. Maybe a premier closer rises to the occasion but expecting Torres to is a reach.
  18. He's fanned 71 times in 166 ABs. The point is his production is more likely to fall off than it is to increase. It's not like he's expanding the zone. For the most part he's either swinging through pitches that have a lot of the plate or he's taking balls right down the middle with two strikes. Yes he runs into one now and again like he did last night, and his defense has been very good, if not stellar at times, but he's 27 years old, not 23. If Brinson is the prospect he's purported to be, Broxton is not going to block him.
  19. Broxton's K rate is spiraling out of control again. I can't see him holding off Brinson much longer. I would expect Brinson to be up no later than right after All Star game and.possibly as soon as next road trip.
  20. If the Brewers are in this position a month from now do they consider surrendering a guy like Cordell and a lower level arm for Hand? Beyond Barnes and Knebel and maybe Torres who do you trust in high leverage situations? Hand has 2 years of control beyond this year so even if 2017 contender status is an anomaly, most of the value you give up now could be recouped by trading him a year from now.
  21. Can anyone possibly still argue that they aren't a better team right now with Sogard at 2B? It's June and they are a first place team. The best lineup needs to be out there most of the time and Villar is not in that group. Of course that could change at some point but they can't continue to wait on Villar.
  22. 9. Burdette (179-120 and a World Series MVP as a Milwaukee Brave, 26.2 WAR as Brave) 10 (tie). Adcock (239 HR in 10 years as a Milwaukee Brave despite missing major parts of 4 seasons in his prime. 26.6 WAR as Brave) 10 (tie) Cirillo
  23. Cubs swept by Padres!
