  1. Not looking to improve any aspect of the game is burying your head in the sand. Over the last 4 weeks Arcia has a .363 OBP. This offense has been far from perfect. Maybe it's time Arcia moves to spot in front of the big bats.
  2. I'd put Sogard and Arcia at the top right now followed by Santana Shaw Aguilar Perez Pina and Brinson. If Shaw is still out, then stick Thames in that spot. Aguilar has to be in the lineup as long as Braun is still out.
  3. Which peripherals are those? His OPS against in games "late and close" is 1.053. Hitters are batting .364 with 2 outs and RISP. RH hitters are an astounding .400/.488/.686 against him. That leads to Counsell having to take him out and replace him with another bad reliever against RH hitters. His value is nil.
  4. I'm all for replacing Drake with Wang on the active roster. Drake's value is as a pseudo lefty specialist. Why not an actual lefty with some upside left? Wang's taken well to a bullpen role in AAA. He's been getting both RH and LH hitters out but has been especially tough on LH hitters with a .150 BAA and a 0.77 WHIP. I think you are overstating Torres' track record. He had two solid years in New York when they didn't contend, then he wasn't so good when they were contenders in 2015. His stuff isn't all that good, and now he's totally lost confidence. It's time to part with him. Feliz stuff is still worth hanging on to for a bit as long as he's not pitching meaningful innings. Maybe they can get something for Wily. So hard to see a guy with his talent not succeed.
  5. Agreed. Brewers need to use any avenue available to upgrade the pen including guys off the scrap heap. If he's bad, just let him go in a couple weeks.
  6. Maybe give a guy like Aaron Wilkerson a shot. Barbosa? All I know is over half the pen isn't getting the job done and there's only so much Hader can do. Counsell's "I gotta keep putting these guys out there for them to get out of their slump" defies reason. Spoken like a guy who kept getting AB' s when he,went through an 0 for 47 slump late in his career
  7. Maybe Archer too.
  8. Brewers might have the 3 worst relievers in the NL in Torres, Feliz, and Drake. Hughes was on that list till a sudden turnaround in the last week.
  9. I wouldn't let Torres on the plane. What was he doing in a one run game anyway? Has Counsell not seen him stink up the joint most of the year?
  10. Suter was pulled from start after an inning and a third. Looks like he may be the guy.
  11. Suter out quickly. Let the speculation for a start in St. Louis Tuesday begin.
  12. When did Hader grow 8 inches? He's 6'3". That qualifies as lanky to some. We're not talking Freddie Norman here. For you kids, Norman was a 5'8" lefty who was a pretty effective starter for the Reds back in the day.
  13. You missed my point. Hader is a premier talent. The guy Counsell used instead is a fringe major league pitcher. It's comparable to bringing up Braun in 2007 and sitting him in favor of Counsell. Counsell has done a fine job this year but that doesn't make him immune to criticism. They've had trouble closing out games. A lot of that is on the pitchers but some of that is on the manager. Plus in last night's game they had a 4 run lead entering the bottom of the 7th. It was not a high leverage situation until Drake was roughed up. Hader is a very good talent but he is not the next coming of Chapman or Kimbrel as a reliever. He could be very good and will probably have a nice career as a starter but he seems more like a two or very good three than an actual number one type to me. You are aware Chapman walked 46 guys in his first 63 major league innings and he had worse control than Hader as a minor leaguer? Hader is a poor man's Chris Sale. Very close in stuff and delivery. You are understating Hader's ability just a bit. You don't get ranked as high as he's been with a ceiling of a number 3.
  14. No, I would look at bringing up Jorge Lopez next for the bullpen Next move should be Wang. Woodruff got roughed up pretty badly in his last start (tho that happens in CS) and Lopez has an ERA over 5 in AA. 40 man status shouldn't be an issue. They'd have to make room by DFA'ing guys anyway. Garza won't be out much longer so no rush for another starter tho someone other than Espino would be fine with me.

  16. Anyone else want to see Cooper get a shot? They could use him in LF vs. LHP assuming Perez platoons at 2B with Sogard if Villar is out a while.
  17. He might not come all that cheap but David Phelps would be a real nice pickup plus he's controllable for another year.
  18. Leave it to Counsell to be afraid to use one of the top LH pitching prospects in the game and instead uses a career minor leaguer like Drake because of a small sample of splits. Somehow I don't recall Dusty Baker being afraid to use Chapman when he first arrived with the Reds. Not comparing Headed to Chapman, but my gosh Hader is a not just a run of the mill arm either.
  19. Cordell isn't really tearing things up. Assuming Shaw isn't out much longer, they may add Rivera for a few days then send him back when Shaw gets activated. Phillips will stick around until Braun returns now, unless he does well enough to prompt them to send down Broxton.
  20. Perez looks like he's put back about 15 pounds hence the steals down and the slugging way up. Plus the entire team is running less.
  21. They sure could have used a fresh arm yesterday. Not sure why if all they wanted was an extra bullpen arm they didn't opt for Wang but I guess they did not want to use a 40 man spot and Wang's been used a lot lately. Knowing Counsell though, he'll throw a tired Torres or Hughes out there instead of a fresh Hader. His freshest guy both last Saturday before the Dodger debacle and yesterday before the 10th inning meltdown by Barnes was Scahill, but it's like Counsell forgets he's even on the team.
  22. Sure seems like he's ready. But two factors to consider. First, is he mentally and physically ready? Could be some refinement they're still working on with him. And since he's been in MLB already and got knocked around a little, you really want to be sure he comes up with confidence. Potentially, he's not just an option for the present but for the future as well. (As opposed to the Cravys and Blazeks, etc.) So, if you can, you want to avoid the yo-yo of going back and forth between MLB and AAA. Secondly, who does he replace? Not long ago nobody would have a problem dumping Hughes. Then he turned in a couple of exceptional outings. Every guy in the Brewers pen has had success in the past, most in the very recent past. So you want to be careful about giving up on guys too soon. If a guy lacks confidence because he got hit around in the majors two years ago after making the jump from rookie ball, he's never going to be mentally ready. He got hit around 3 years ago not two when he was 22 and lacked much minor league time. Now he's 25 and performing well in very tough environment. I would expect he's matured. Personally, I would deal either Hughes or Torres to open a spot if an injury doesn't intervene.
  23. Problem with that is Broxton is 27 already. Cameron was 6th in ROY voting at age 24 and was fully established by age 26. They can't keep waiting on him with a player of Brinson's ability waiting in the wings.
