  1. No, he should be in low A ball. As for this DL stuff, he actually has to be hurt. There's no evidence of that. Think a move to the DL by a healthy player in his situation won't be looked at by MLB? What about his agent? Think not developing him won't bring about a grievance? Sitting him entirely the rest of the season develops him how?? He'd probably need to go back to rookie ball in 2015 just to regain his shattered confidence. He's not worth saving for the potential of some sort of payoff 5 years from now. Again it's just plain silly. He's a decent prospect but we're not talking Clayton Kershaw/Chris Sale type stuff here. There's an excellent chance he'd burn through all his options before being a viable major league pitcher anyway.
  2. My thoughts exactly. His FB was 3-4 MPH less than normal. A 15 day DL stint followed by minor league rehab buys some more time. I want to keep Wang because he certainly has the stuff, but he's not even close to being ready to pitch in the majors. Playing petty roster games does exactly what for this kid?? He's missing a key development year. Who's to say what is "normal" for Wang anyway? That he could hit 94 or 95 doesn't mean he can work consistently there. He throws free and easy. He's not hurt or tired. He throws a straight fastball down the middle of the plate with no deception. Whether it's 90 or 93, major league hitters destroy those pitches. We have proof of that with his record.
  3. Patrick is right. That Roenicke needs to spend any time thinking of when and how to use this poor kid is taking away from other key decisions about this team. Being here is hurting the kid's future too. He needs to be back working at a level where he can compete. If in say 2020 he comes back to haunt the Brewers, so be it though I doubt it. What are the chances Roenicke and/Melvin will even be around in 2020? Even less I suspect than Wang's actually being successful down the road. I just don't get it.
  4. Does Green have any options left? Not sure he can be sent back down. He can play 1B too. Green is now up to .324/.365/.456 vs. RHP and he's only fanned 8 times in 68 ABs against them.
  5. Wang is just another prospect who's a long way from being a major league pitcher. That the Brewers would risk anything on this guy is a complete mystery to me. Besides that, he's already had one TJ surgery and therefore is prone to another in 6 or 7 years. Offer him back to Pittsburgh. They may not want to use a 40 man spot on him anyway. Get Gorzo back here and have a full compliment of major league pitchers.
  6. Green's AAA splits vs. RHP in 2014: .318/.361/.455. Not shabby by any means. Orr's AAA spits vs. RHP: .299/.330/.471 Orr at soon to be 35 is disposable so as a very short term guy, he makes some sense. If you go with Green you need to be prepared to keep him up. Neither guy is a world beater but at this point a .250/.320/.370 guy that can backup at 3rd and 1st would be an improvement.
  7. There is almost always a last guy in the pen who seldom pitches. Might as well be somebody like Wang. Henderson will return at some point and Gorzelanny has dominated A ballers in two rehab stints. Barring an injury, sure you can send Wooten (who's been quite good) down but who else? Duke has been fine. Maybe they'll have a starter blowup very early, then stick Wang in there for like 90 pitches and have him complain of arm fatigue much the same way Burgos went down last year?
  8. Angels seem to be the most logical one out there that could drive up the price. A's have a need at DH but questionable means and can the Yankees be ruled out?
  9. He looked fine yesterday though Cubs are barely above a AAA lineup (that's how bad Estrada was). Gave up a bloop hit, nothing hard. Radar on fastball was 90-93.
  10. If Green does positive work, hold on to him. As for Morris, I'd be more inclined to go with Halton who's OBP is 50 points higher than Morris this year and who can also be an option in LF. Halton needs a 40 man spot but one could be created easily enough. Morales is considerably better as a LH hitter too, so you'd have some balance with Halton. If all they were looking for is a temporary fill in at 3B, Pete Orr might do the trick too. He's got ML experience and is having a nice year.
  11. One move that needs to be made now. Release Overbay (.125/.150/.125 in 40 ABs since April 30 with 13 Ks). Bring up Green who's opt out is approaching. Green's been solid after missing all of 2013, and is needed at 3B now. Once Ramirez returns consider DFAing Bianchi who can't seem to hit his way out of a paper bag right now. He's defensively superior to Herrera but he needs to contribute something with the bat. Sign Morales the day after the draft so the Reynolds experiment can end and they can get a much needed professional hitter in the lineup.
  12. Here we go: 1. Nelson 2. Coulter 3. Taylor 4. Arcia 5. D. Williams 6. Goforth 7. Reed 8. Jungmann 9. Cravy 10. Gagnon 11. Roache 12. Jorge Lopez 13. Wagner 14. Haniger 15. Suter 16. Delmonico 17. McFarland 18. Hobbs Johnson 19. Bradley 20. Weisenberger
  13. Really, could the Halton/Morris combo be any worse than Reynolds/Overbay?
  14. Texas is going to be hard pressed to stay in contention. They have Alex Rios on the last year of his deal ($13.5 million team option for 2015). Some controllable pitching (Fiers) might interest them plus say Roache. Though Rios has a well earned rep as a guy who dogs it occasionally, he might be worth considering to boost the offense and defense down the stretch without damaging Davis' development necessarily.
  15. Texas may well write this season off and look to 2015. Beltre is nearing the end (no way they deal Gallo). Rios is a FA and could generate some interest. They have big money tied up in Choo and Fielder so a complete rebuild isn't likely but a rebuild on the fly, certainly. Moreland could be available too.
  16. Nagging injuries and thumb are lesser concerns than the likely scenario of an elite pitching prospect having TJ surgery in the near term. Besides Gomez is only signed through 2016. They need to may hay while the sun shines and they need Braun to do it. Pitching staff may lack sizzle but they run out a competent starter every game.
  17. Any one notice that Halton has drawn 9 walks in his last 6 games raising his OBP to .383? I don't believe he's ever exhibited that type of patience in the past. Still hope for Sean?
  18. OK so he won't play OF, but what about 1B especially with Ramirez out? Ernie Banks was a HOF caliber shortstop, and moved to 1B for weak hitting Don Kessinger and extended his career. Roenicke should ask Ernie to have a sit down with Weeks this weekend.
  19. He's not been the same guy he was early on for the last several weeks. Bears watching for sure. Command is off. That can be a sign of physical troubles. Also he seems to have lost his feel for changeup that was so effective for him as starter last year. Hoping Henderson comes back strong. Gorzelanny was sharp in his first rehab appearance. They are going to need him too. At some point maybe Thornburg might need some innings down at Nashville.
  20. The Cubs are going to start adding some weekend night games. Not sure what year. All their night games are weeknights now. Good weekend to take the wife out for dinner and a movie.
  21. It didn't seem like much at the time but some extended AB's in the 9th last night that ran his pitch count up took just enough out of Melancon that he had nothing today.
  22. Eric Farris is having a pretty good year for Rochester, currently hitting .326 with 11 steals. Twins have turned him into a CF.
  23. Eric Farris is having a pretty good year for Rochester, currently hitting .326 with 11 steals.
  24. Teams early on tested Overbay's ability at 37 to get around on good fastballs. He passed that test but now they are back to feeding him changeups which he's always struggled with going back to the days Roy Oswalt used to make him look bad. I disagree with Brew4U about Bianchi. Bianchi hasn't had a ton of AB's but he's there for his defense which has been stellar and given enough AB's he'll get some hits. Almost all teams have guys on their benches that don't provide much offense. Bianchi gives them defense and that helps the pitching staff.
  25. If you are familiar with Woodfield Mall area in Schaumburg, you can park free in the Pace transportation center lot there and board a bus that drops you off at the door and you board after the game on the third base side on Clark St. Leaves at 11:15 for 1:20 games. $4 each way. Tried it last year for first time. Quite relaxing and hassle free and no cramming into a train post game and gets you there in time to have a beer near the park. Anyone is free to stop and say hi for Sunday when I will be taking the bus down. I'll be the 60ish guy with a Brewer cap on.
