  1. Pedro's one poor outing is likely why Saenz got the call instead of him, and ditto for DLR (and DLR hasn't been "stretched out" yet).
  2. I hate the PR in most all circumstances, but in that case, you gotta PR for the old, slow C. Usually, a PR is only worth a split second, but I have to believe Durrington is a second faster than Gary over 55 yards. A second is an eternity on a throw home on a base hit to the OF.
  3. The baseball death of Brooks Kieschnick has been exaggerated, to say the least. HR one day, a gutty, almost perfect relief outing the next. Anyone who says this guy isn't a major leaguer simply doesn't understand the game.
  4. Doesn't the limit go down to 23 or 24 soon MB?
  5. I've said that about Caps as well, DHonks. His ERA was low for that park, and his K/BB was outstanding. I like him much more than most do.
  6. And yet, no one comments on the fact that the guy everyone wanted from LA blew out his arm. DLR is even a couple years too young for me, as those years under 23 are especially strenuous on the arm.
  7. Had no clue, but of course, I'm a good boy.
  8. Lend, I think there is an amount of "there's no use hanging onto a guy if we don't think he has a future here" going on. I disagree with it, in almost all cases, as it simply weakens the system. As you say, Parker is pretty obviously better than some guys at AA/high A, and isn't that old. Is it admirable? Only if none of those players allowed to walk for nothing ever make it. As even guys like Mike Buddie are worth something, I hate getting nothing for guys that are picked up within 24 hours. If nothing else, pick up a hard thrower the other team is close to giving up on and send them to extended spring.
  9. Kraft, is that beading class at a Michaels? It's Beading Week ya know. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. It's tough not to disregard error totals at every level. Last night, Wes Helms was given an error on a ball that he was fortunate to get a glove on last night, an absolute shot that he had hardly any chance to even react to. Yet, a dropped fly ball by Biggio was ruled a triple. The inconsistency even in the majors is astounding, so you know the minors is much worse.
  11. H-ville tied in bottom of the 9th, at 2. Paul Stewart is now on the mound, just hit 96 on the in park gun. Even "dialed up", 96 is mighty fast, especially considering he was cut by TB. Now going into the 10th. FYI, Montgomery's new park cost $26 million. For those wondering how much a AAA park in Madison would cost, sounds like $30 mil would be a nice place to start.
  12. the fact that Yount is one of the Dback coaches can't hurt attendence either. I can't believe over 25% of the fans in Miller Park know Yount is a D'Backs coach, and NO ONE will be there to see him.
  13. Obviously, they are giving Bauscher every chance to succeed, by giving him innings.
  14. H-ville thinks the 40's is "cold"? It's 51 and windy in Wausau today, and the skirts and shorts are out as if it's 90.
  15. Is Jennie Finch scheduled to visit Miller Park? And Xis, I remember Doug swinging this big trade in which we greatly added to our depth. You, of course, were grumpy we didn't get some 19 year-old pitcher who has since had surgery.
  16. The difference between 96 & 99 is well within the 5-10% error threshold police radar guns have. This is one reason why cops very rarely give tickets if you are 1-10 mph above the speed limit, as it is easy to say that the gun could be in question. Consistently yesterday, Ben was 93-95, and he did have a small amount above 96. The majority was in that 93, 94, 95 range. That's plenty fast if you have a breaking ball working.
  17. but I hear Montgomery manager Charlie Montoyo really went into a tirade after the game in the clubhouse. 1. It's Ozzie Jr. 2. So, do we think the Montgomery guys will say, "The heck with my selfish desire to succeed, today I'm going to try because...my manager is a buffoon who is panicking after 2.1% of the season".
  18. Just a quick FYI, the Twins won 2 World Series and never responded to the immature game of "you hit my guy, I hit yours". They were too busy playing hard and winning games. In my world, the Cards couldn't pitch worth a damn, so they threw at guys. The Crew pitched mediocre at best, but limited baserunners and didn't throw 85 pitches to get through 4 innings. I'll let the Cards and anyone else get all the moral victories they want, as they mean nothing to me. I'll maximize my runs scored and minimize the other guys scored for 162 and worry about the extracurricular crap then. They can laugh their way to the loser's lounge all year for all I care. I'll take the W's.
  19. Again, if you're referring to Junior's attempt in the 9th, it was far from routine. No error from my vantage point either. I will say, however, that in the minors, both those would probably be given E's. Scorers are downright mean, at least in games I've seen, in the minor leagues. Garciaparra got one last year after he dove, stopped the ball, then threw the ball in the dirt. I thought the runner had it beat out anyway. E6, it was scored.
  20. I didn't see much of the game, as I was working, but if you're referring to Wes' failure to get the ball out of his glove in the 9th, I certainly don't think that was an error. Coming in and off balance, that's a play that can often be made, but it shouldn't be considered routine. Also, it was nice hustle by Rolen, anything less, he'd have been out.
  21. I know you're aware of Pete E's release, Lend, just wanted to mention how sad it is guys that are so much better than we ever were don't even make it out of low A ball, isn't it?
  22. I think this year it'd be fine at Miller. The one year ARI complained, it had been very cold right up until the opener, and the concrete was "holding in" the cold.
  23. Machado isn't a bad prospect by any means. If we couldn't find a roster spot for him, we may be more loaded than I thought. He could well have some time in the bigs, most likley in a utility role.
  24. By 120, I meant 25 at each minor league team, and 20 or so in extended spring, waiting for June, and for injuries to heal up.
  25. Surprised about Petty, as while his K/9 numbers were rather poor, he didn't allow any HR's. It's almost impossible to have a 6+ ERA while giving up only 3 homers. Neither did Carpenter, more walks than K's last year though. It's odd to see a guy that young with a 3.89 ERA released. If they didn't "fit in", maybe extended spring would have been the place for them, to at least give them some time to work out kinks and work away from the team until June.
