  1. Conti may only be up a couple days, as Helms is due off the DL. Nice game for Derek Lee, put that on his minor league FA resume this offseason.
  2. The issue i'd raise with Nance is that he's stunk with every opportunity he's been given in Milwaukee. Is a handful of inings, while being used without a plan, indicative of what Shane can do? Hardly. Pitch him every other day, or consistently, for half a season. The way he's been used thus far, he's a blank slate.
  3. Not to make excuses, MB, but it would appear the copy guys goofed again.
  4. 1AM...as anyone who has ever witnessed the baseball marathon at Carson Park knows...time for baseball!! Does anyone else have no memory of Greg spending 1999 in Cincy? He had a fine year as well, but I simply have no recollection of him playing a game in a reds uni, never mind 150. I would have bet a sizeable amount he went from SD to TB.
  5. Actually, why would you not play the 2nd game? Anyone really think 25 innings wears you out that much more than 18? Call me crazy, but I'd be happy to give Conti a shot at being my 5th OF. He's a defensive machine, runs well, plays all 3 OF spots, and if AAA had the sortable stats MLB does, I think he's been OK offensively since June 1st. His numbers seem to have been destoyed by a poor start. Grag Vaughn had a career statline of about .350 OBP & .500 SLG until his two horrible years in TB. That's not a bad career for anyone, unless they are named Bonds or Williams.
  6. Davis did fine, as could be expected versus PIT. Ginter had better be playing 6 days a week the rest of the way. With 2 of the alternatives being 30+ year-old FA's, it's insane to not play the future.
  7. I always liked Figueroa when he was in MIL. He was another guy who was used horribly by the Royster regime. He may be just a 5th starter type, but we've needed one of those all year. He was let go for his "lack of grittyness", if I recall. I was surprised it took him so long to be called up, 12-5 with a 3 ERA in AAA is superb.
  8. Replays showed Utley tagged up properly. His upper half was in motion, but his foot was on the bag when Clark caught it. That's a play that should never be called unless it is so obvious you can't help but call it. Otherwise, that's an easy call to botch. Wes didn't pitch badly at all. He's done fine in 3 of 4 starts. After letting Ben give up 8 earned in 5, Ned had a quick hook tonight, though Wes' pitch count was high. Oh, to have an entire team of Keith Ginter types. Watching EY have 3 straight balls thrown to him in the 9th, yet swing at two of them, shows that despite a long career, he wouldn't know plate discipline if it hit him in the face. Keith never seems to swing at a bad pitch unless he has two strikes.
  9. You play for the win, and you don't bunt.
  10. Ginter is better than Hall, and every bit as good as Helms, at 20% of the cost. I doubt if JJ starts the year in MIL, as he hasn't spent a day in AAA.
  11. You guys. Ginter isn't any good...look at his first {insert incredibly small sample of AB's here} AB's this year. Keith is now on a pace for over 20 HR's in 600 AB's. I believe he is the epitome of what many of us look for in a "value" player...above average production for an inexpensive salary.
  12. It was odd, Peavey, but it was a roundabout defensive switch. Great game to attend Sunday. How in the world was no one able to control Dan Kolb until now? Guy has never hit the strike zone his whole life, and now he's darn near as good as Maddux at hitting the corners. And it sure is nice watching Keith Ginter take pitches, work the count, and hit line drives. Who woulda guessed he'd do that? Oh, that's right, almost all of us.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. Shane Nance pitched 2.2 innings of shutout baseball in relief of Martinez to run his own streak of scoreless innings to a team-high 29.0 innings Yeah, Luis is ALMOST to where Shane is. Honestly, the idea we are totally wasting this year letting Shane waste away at a level he has been successful at in the past is quite foolish. He needs consistent work in MIL, not Indy. We're still going to have the same questions about Nance we did last offseason. Pathetic.
  14. Anyone else understand why Smith instead of Perez? Maybe a very slight edge, but Perez has to play anyway, if the game is tied.
  15. Nelson is still an experiment in left and I doubt he'll want to play there every single day during a pennant race. He's gotta learn somewhere, Bill. AA with a playoff spot sewn up seems like a good spot to me.
  16. Martinez up, Manning down...nothing wrong with it, as long as we monitor Luis' pitch count. Though it may put Coop over the edge...
  17. I'd have walked right out to the 3B box, pointed to the dugout, and told him to just keep walking. Down 8, and sending a runner home with no one out? Possibly, the stupidest thing I've ever seen.
  18. That is the last of many balls hit over Pods head that didn't hit the wall. Dare I say it, he plays too shallow. I really enjoyed the TBS crew last night, after a season of Daron & Bill. Mature and relaxed. I'd sit as far away from the Brigade as I could, but I'm glad others enjoy it. Rythmic clapping bores me to tears.
  19. As I've said a couple times, ESPN is in need of a competitor, as they are simply awful, for the most part. Chris Berman, Ravech, Scott...they all aren't just bad, they're awful.
  20. Free agency not affected at all, neither is arby, for that matter. He's still eligible for arby after 3 years of ML service time, or as a Super 2, and a FA after 6 years of service time. The only difference is he has a major league deal, rather than a pact of renewable minor league deals, and, his salary for the first few years is already known.
  21. Verified by the radio network, Weeks is officially on board. Will go to Arizona for a bit, then be back in Beloit by the Miller Park game.
  22. Nelson, have you been waiting for a scoop to make your first post?
  23. He might get a "4th option", as no one is sure if this season counts. I assume we'll see this when he signs.
  24. Sexual contact could be touching, or it could be sexual intercourse between consenting minors. Depends on the state and its laws. Sad this kid's name is being dragged through the mud over an anonymous letter.
  25. Pogo is correct, though no one seems to know how long you actually have to be on the 25 man...I think it's about 90 days.
