  1. I have seen guys called out due to both slides like that AND for being out of the baseline. As stated, however, the out was made, so the only call that could have been made was to throw Gonzalez out of the game. Ben once again put his "manly"ness ahead of the win, hitting the leadoff batter. If you do feel the need to give the other team a baserunner to "protect" your team, do it with two outs. Common sense.
  2. Means nothing to me, just win the game. All the other crap is just adults acting like babies.
  3. I do know you need permission from someone, though I think it's the league. It is frowned upon, but happens once in a while.
  4. I'll be posting an in depth recap of each Snappers player later today. A short preview...Prince, Rickie, and Tony...3 can't miss guys. I also saw Mr. Melvin and wished him luck. Several (5-10) gentlemen in Brewers' jackets were there, a nice representation. And to the poster doing the interview AND holding the camera, I told my wife, "That's a talented guy".http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. Solves the mystery of why he wasn't called up to have an emergency C.
  6. Actually, I doubt Gary ever didn't give 100% when he was here. However, saying he didn't makes him sound cool "in the hood". I'd love to have a jerk like Sheff on my team, heck, I'd take 25 of them.
  7. At least he was actually trying to win! Has there ever been an intelligent fan who believed a player was trying to get out? What a silly statement.
  8. I put Bale on my RUTT team as a reliever. Surprised to see him starting with a sub 3 ERA, however.
  9. As much as I dislike Clayton's offense, the difference between his and Hall's defense is night and day. Brian, I find that hard to believe, considering Hall has made half an out more a game than Clayton, based on range factor. Granted, Royce has a better zone rating and fielding percentage, but what can you judge by watching 5 games? Royce is out there because he was once a fine SS. Now, he isn't, and is still living off the legend of his veteranness.
  10. Other than Clayton, Yost's moves tend to be pretty standard, other than things like letting Burba sit in the bullpen for 3+ weeks...gee, wonder why he was ineffective last night? His love for veteran-ness, like EY and Royce, is his downfall. He allows his emotions affect his strategic moves...which is pitiful. Overall, I think it's safe to say Yost has won as many games as he can in 2003. Is he costing us time and money by not getting Hall playing time, to properly judge him and allowing him to develop? No doubt.
  11. Sorry, Bill, I was busy typing a letter of affection to Keith. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  12. Nice to see Ginter free, ain't it? Inexpensive, in his prime, and better than league average. He is the epitome of what we need to be looking for, not expensive FA's who are below] league average for their positions. And to think, we had to defend Keith after a small sample to folks who have trouble comprehending the fact 80 AB's means less than noth
  13. Wes has pitched as well as any 4.71 ERA I've ever seen. I guess his one poor start I must have missed, as it seems like he's put a quality start together every game.
  14. I'm a big fan of Jason Phillips of the Mets, actually. I agree, however, that webb would be my pick. Not PHing for Davis, at 110 pitches? Very short-sighted. I watched the game on tape after getting home from work at 5, and eating dinner. From beginning to end, it was well played, and just a wonderful way to spend my Sunday evening. While I shake my head at 95% of pinch runners and defensive replacements, there's no way VW makes that catch. Conti may have struggled in AAA this year, but with a .350+ career AAA OBP, an arm like that, and the speed/range, he deserves to be on someone's bench, and I hope he is in '04. Does anyone else find it ironic TEX and TOR, of all teams, released Doug Davis? Not only was he not awful, he's a 27 year-old LHP. Unless you're in the hunt, give the guy some innings.
  15. Ginter with 3 walks today, I believe is finally at or very close to one walk every 10 AB's. Pods stole home on a play the Twins used to try once a month or so. The runner on 1B either takes a huge lead or breaks early. A split second later the runner breaks from 3B, as the pitcher goes for the pickoff at 1B. In the time it takes the ball to go from the mound to 1B to home plate, a fast runner can score 9 times out of 10. Much like the suicide squeeze, it's almost impossible to defend. With two outs, it's actually a pretty good percentage play.
  16. I knew Dan was a former farmhand, but thought he came up through the system, or did you just list his last season, MB?
  17. Heck, Clayton is better than Rey Sanchez, who is playing rather than Cirillo out in SEA. Ouch.
  18. I still feel Pods has had a career-type season, but can he be expected to be mediocre in 2004, .275/.330/.400, or better? I would say so. Since he'll be inexpensive, that's all you need from him, and I feel secure he'll do that.
  19. Nice to see extra caution being used for Sheets. I actually really liked Ned getting Leo right back out there again today. However, after the HR, I didn't like Leo left out there to rot after the HR. Luckily, he got out of the inning without further damage, but it was like Ned never fathomed Leo might not get 'em 1-2-3. Any reports on how many stayed for the movie?
  20. Paz can't be too far from being looked at as a future contributor, if not by the Crew, by someone. This guy is 26, but he has a .400 career OBP. He walked about once every 5.5 AB's in his long AA career. If this guy can play any SS, there's no reason he can't be a MLB utility man.
  21. As long as Keith plays 6 games a week, that's fine with me. Hall should play at least 3-4 as well. Of course, Clayton is the real problem here.
  22. Check out Ramblings, So Cal. Conti had a career .360ish OBP in AAA coming into '03. I would tend to write off 2003 as a wasted season for him, but I still like the guy. No doubt, 5th OF's are plentiful, but Conti or Clark would be fine with me in '04. FYI, you need a guy with a bit more "punch" as your 4th OF. Clark is the 4th OF this year, and I'd like to see an improvement for '04. But, VW was supposed to be the 4th guy, and he's a dandy one.
  23. Yes, that would be an assist for Pods...his 2nd of the year, unless I missed one in the last week. Conti just hit a HR, by the way. As I've said a couple times lately, the difference between a veteran AAA player and a major league reserve is 90% opportunity, with a lot of "gritty" and "scrappy" mixed in for good measure.
  24. Ughhh, this game has "loss" written all over it... Hee-hee...and what did GW say?
  25. I wonder if Manning asked for his release, as the Brewers probably told him he would not be recalled in September. With a few games left, it's an odd move.
