  1. Cirillo was just on 540 ESPN and he said he is doing only away games and he will be in Minnesota with Jeff Grayson. He will also be doing some work for Minnesota Twins stuff. Basically he has the Ann Carrol role from last year.
  2. No, probably not. The Packers are one of the most storied franchises in all of sports. I have no problem with them playing second fiddle to the Pack. even on opening day?
  3. Today is the home opener and spring is in the air. The Brewers are 2-1 and starting a 3 game series that they should dominate in reality. But then here comes word that Brett Favre has released a statement stating that he is retired, which we already know. The following causes local programming, radio and tv, to halt to discuss the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre. I turn on WTMJ and Peter King is on talking about statement made by Sam Farmer about the possible return of Favre. I turn on 540 ESPN and they have on Jason Wilde. Turn on WSSP and they are talking to some Packers guy I have never heard of. Turn on Fox 6 in Milwaukee and they have Tom Pippens sitting there talking about how hard it is for a competitor like Favre to stay retired. WISN 12 in Milwaukee is interviewing tailgaters about Favre. On opening day, a day that lives in the lore of all Milwaukee'ns but the day is ruined by the same old story and this unfortantly always happens. The Brewers seem to be ok playing backseat to the Packers as they extended with WTMJ yesterday with the clause the Packers trump all Brewers/Bucks/Badgers items even if the Brewers make the playoffs. My question is this, is there ever going to be a time or a place where the Brewers will ever trump anything Packers related or is it just a Brett Favre thing? I am a huge Packers fan but do the Packers always trump everything? Anybody else as annoyed as me?
  4. He is filling the Davey Nelson role for away games right. Cause it is pretty quick to be getting rid of Trini if that is what he is going to be doing.
  5. American League West 1. Seattle Mariners 2. Los Angeles Angels 3. Oakland A's 4. Texas Rangers John Lackey being out until mid-May and losing Kelvim Escobar is going to really hurt the Los Angeles Angels. The Seattle Mariners have the top two starting pitchers in the division in Erik Bedard and Felix Hernandez. Josh Hamilton will tear up the American League but won't get American League Most Valuable Player cause the Texas Rangers stink. American League Central 1. Cleveland Indians 2. Detroit Tigers 3. Kansas City Royals 4. Minnesota Twins 5. Chicago White Sox Cleveland Indians are the class of the American League because they mix the right amount of youth with veterans. I think the Detroit Tigers are good but I am just not sold on that bullpen. The Kansas City Royals will surprise some. This is a good division. American League East 1. New York Yankees 2. Tampa Bay Rays 3. Boston Red Sox 4. Toronto Blue Jays 5. Baltimore Orioles Age is going and poor pitching depth is going to haunt the Boston Red Sox. Clay Bucholtz is a year away from contributing. The New York Yankees will acquire that starting pitcher to put them over the hump. The Tampa Bay Rays are talent wise on the verge. I think Carl Crawford is going to put up a monster season. American League Wild Card: Detroit Tigers American League Cy Young: Starting Pitcher Erik Bedard from the Seattle Mariners American League Rookie of the Year: Centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury from the Boston Red Sox American League Most Valuable Player: Centerfielder Grady Sizemore from the Cleveland Indians American League Coach of the Year: Joe Maddon of the Tampa Bay Rays American League Division Series: New York Yankees over the Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians over the Seattle Mariners American League Championship Series: Cleveland Indians over the New York Yankees American League Champions: Cleveland Indians National League West 1. Los Angeles Dodgers 2. San Diego Padres 3. Arizona Diamandbacks 4. Colorado Rockies 5. San Fransisco Giants The Los Angeles Dodgers have great pitching, the power bat in Andruw Jones, and a manager that has a clue in Joe Torre. The San Diego Padres are still the Padres, they will be there. Offense will be the problem in Arizona and pitching will be the problem in Colorado. National League Central 1. Milwaukee Brewers 2. Cincinnati Reds 3. Chicago Cubs 4. Pittsburgh Pirates 5. St. Louis Cardinals 6. Houston Astros The Brewers are clearly the class of this division. No offense to the Chicago Cubs. But I really don't think they improved their offense the way the national pundits think. You can't count of Kerry Wood to be any important part of your team. The Cincinnati Reds are going to be good but how good? It will be interesting because if they can get their feet wet fast they could challange. National League East 1. Atlanta Braves 2. Philadelphia Phillies 3. New York Mets 4. Washington Nationals 5. Florida Marlins The Atlanta Braves win a three team shootout with the Philadelphia Phillies winning the wild card. I think pitching depth will hurt the New York Mets chances. National League Wild Card: Philadelphia Phillies National League Cy Young: Starting Pitcher Aaron Harang from the Cincinnati Reds National League Rookie of the Year: Starting Pitcher Johnny Cueto from the Cincinnati Reds National League Most Valuable Player: First Baseman Mark Teixeira from the Atlanta Braves National League Coach of the Year: Joe Torre of the Los Angeles Dodgers National League Division Series: Milwaukee Brewers over the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers over Philadelphia Phillies National League Championship Series: Los Angeles Dodgers over the Milwaukee Brewers National League Champions: Los Angeles Dodgers World Series Champion: Los Angeles Dodgers World Series Most Valuable Player: Clayton Kershaw
  6. haha, well believe it or not that guy who came up with that trade rumor is actually in baseball where the guy who gave me this one claims he heard it on the radio. Go figure...
  7. A buddy of mine said he heard that the Brewers last week almost traded Joe Dillon, Claudio Vargas, and Eric Munson to San Fransisco for Dave Roberts and 2 minor leaguers. Obviously it didn't happen since Vargas was released. Good thing it didn't happen, that contract is REDICULOUS. Can't believe we were almost saddled with that, but interesting we looking to CF for the time Cameron is out.
  8. 540's signal is a million times stronger now the it was at 1510. I don't know how everyone has problems. I can pick up 540 in Northern Indiana, I have picked it up in Madison on numerous occassions, and Green Bay is clear as day. As far as the overall quality of programming at 540 I can't agree totally with everything you all say. Mike and Mike are ok, The D-List is solid as hell...for the exception of Bill Johnson. Drew Olson is the best host in Milwaukee IMO. The midday show stinks with Tirico. Dan Patrick leaving really hurt. Homer is good because he gets the best guests period. Getting Haudricourt was a coup and Jason Wilde is great. The guy with the sorta lisp is the owner of the station Craig Karmazin, who's Dad is the owner of Sirius and soon to be XM radio.
  9. Just heard on Homer that 540 ESPN in Milwaukee will be starting a post game show to compete with 1250 WSSP. Homer stated that starting March 31st they will be hosting post game shows with hosting duties going to Homer, Bill Johnson, Lance Davis, and Matt Salmon on a rotating basis. Homer and Lance Davis are upgrade over other post games but I do without Johnson who always is negative and I never heard of Matt Salmon. Also a buddy of mine who works in marketing for Good Karma Broadcasting said that they are close to announcing a new mid-day show in place of Mike Tirico. It is going to be a noon to two show hosted by Trenni Kusnierek and Jason Wilde. Interesting combo. I know WSSP is partner/sponser of the board but just what I feared when WAUK went 24 hours, and that isn't good for the future of WSSP.
  10. Looking at that map of Florida sites I was quite surprised there wasn't as many sites around the Orlando area, which kinda surprises me. If I had a preference I think I rather have the new complex in Auburndale cause of its cental location. Sounds like Sarasota really follows their teams well though.
  11. The lease isn't the sticky situation that it seems to be. The Brewers actually own and operate the complex after the agreement with Maryvale when they first moved there. The lease to remain in the city expires after the 2012 season but the Brewers have a opt out after 2010 when the city of Phoenix Parks and Recreation department take over full ownership and operations of the Maryvale Baseball Park. The Brewers signed a 15 year contract in 1997 with a opt out clause. Thus the talk.
  12. I finally got an email back from my buddy in Florida. Sounds like the Baltimore Orioles are going to be moving into the Vero Beach location. The Cincinnati Reds are going to be moving to Goodyear, Arizona. The people in Auburndale think they are going to be getting either the Milwaukee Brewers or Minnesota Twins with the other going to Sarasota. Sounds like that this isn't a if but more of a when now. It will be interesting to see when the Brewers talk about it.
  13. I don't think Melvin was on with Homer today due to the Larry Harris firing but with Drew Olson in Arizona for the rest of the week I am sure that Melvin will be on with Drew this week and I will try to get an answer if they take call ins like they sometimes do on 540 ESPN.
  14. Fox Sports Radio just had on some guy from MLB who said that Vero Beach, Sarasota, and one other place with no team location (Auburndale) will have teams by 2010 or 2011 at the latest. Was then asked if teams would be moving within Florida or team or teams coming over from Arizona and the answer was both. Again if the MLB says that a team from Arizona could be moving to Florida it is quite clear the reference is to the Milwaukee Brewers. Doug Melvin is supposed to be on with Steve "the Homer" True today and hopefully I can get an email to him to ask Melvin. If all 3 locations improve and/or build new state of the art facilities where would be the preference to go?
  15. The last thing I heard now was that Houston may move down I-4 to Haines City to the old Kansas City complex that is going to be renevated. But if Cincinnati does indeed move that opens up that chance. I think if any team were to leave Arizona it would indeed be Milwaukee. Jim Powell said over the weekend if Doug Melvin had his was it would be in Florida.
  16. It will be interested. My parents live part time around the Nashville area and as part time residents of Milwaukee have taken quite an vocal interest in this debate. A relationship between local officials and current ownership is NOT going to result in much IMO. It is going to take a solid new ownership and a rededication from the Nashville area to want this to happen. I have gotten the feeling that Nashville has more interested eye in grabbing a possible NBA or Major League Baseball team. I could be way off but that is the feeling I get when I go down there and talk to some people about this. I don't think it is a Brewers i ssue at all.
  17. So are you willing to keep them two on the roster at the risk of say losing an extra 3-5 games? I am not saying it will happen but it could. We need the best 5 out there.
  18. It doesn't matter how strong the bullpen is if our starters don't get out of the 5th inning. I think that was the major reason our bullpen faltered last year was because of guys having to pitch big innings that probably didn't deserve to be in the situations they were in.
  19. Shoot guys a signed ball? I rather get the round of BP. idk if that is still an option but before I had a full season plan and only a 20 they had a option of BP.
  20. Ah whatever it was a meaningless AB in a game that doesn't count. He has more of a right to an AB then Garth did. Atleast Crystal is a man who promotes the game at the highest levels. 61 was a good if not slightly great movie.
  21. I think baseball was waiting for Lohse to sign so that they can now make a market for guys like Vargas, Bush, Cappy. I think Vargas is pitching himself into a pitching spot on the club this spring.
  22. See what I don't get is how we can be in a "win-now" mode but not keep our best arms in the majors. It makes no sense to me. I understand certain guys are out of options and that is tough but Doug Melvin needs to put the best team out there even if it means shuffling guys around or trading someone, or moving some guys to the pen. Starters #1 Sheets #2 Gallardo #3 Parra #4 Villanueva #5 Suppan Relief Pitchers Vargas Shouse Riske Mota Turnbow Torres Gagne Trade or send down Bush or Cappy.
  23. Tell the wife no dish then no more shoes...come on man show her who's the boss, cause you are making us men look bad.
  24. Technically correct but the team as a opt out clause in 2010 as it did before this past season. I don't know what the conditions of opting out are but it is there. The Cubs would be in the same boat as the Brewers then. But with the Astros moving it would make 13 in the CL and 17 in the GL. Maybe we could swing another midwest team to the CL (StL, Pit, Cin, Det) Wrong... Atlanta Braves: Lake Buena Vista Baltimore Orioles: Ft. Lauderdale Boston Red Sox: Fort Myers Cincinnati Reds: Sarasota Detroit Tigers: Lakeland Florida Marlins: Jupiter Houston Astros: Kissimmee Minnesota Twins: Ft. Myers New York Mets: Port St. Lucie New York Yankees: Tampa Philadelphia Phillies: Clearwater Pittsburgh Pirates: Bradenton St. Louis Cardinals: Jupiter Tampa Bay Rays: Port Charlotte Toronto Blue Jays: Dunedin Washington Nationals: Viera Arizona Diamondbacks: Tucson Chicago Cubs: Mesa Chicago White Sox: Tucson Cleveland Indians: Goodyear Colorado Rockies: Tucson Kansas City Royals: Surprise Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim: Tempe Los Angeles Dodgers: Glendale Milwaukee Brewers: Maryvale Oakland Athletics: Phoenix San Diego Padres: Peoria San Francisco Giants: Scottsdale Seattle Mariners: Peoria Texas Rangers: Surprise That is as close to a split you will get without going odd. The Dodgertown facility needs improvement. The Kissimmee location only holds about 5000 and is a few miles from Atlanta complex at Disney. Plus the Kissimmee location has really gotten involved in holding more amature events as of late plus the umpire academy is there. The thing is that if MLB is involved like reported and Auburndale is going to be putting up a stadium then there will be a team moving there. Who is to be debated but I doubt they would build a complex to remain empty.
  25. Not to beat a dead horse but Fox Sports Radio said tonight the Houston Astros are close to an agreement to leave Florida for Arizona in 2010. This would mean a team from Arizona would have to come over to Florida so that there is a even split in both locations. The only team from Arizona that would make sense to leave Arizona would be Milwaukee as I doubt any West Coast teams would come across country for Spring Training and the White Sox, Royals, Indians and Rangers are all getting or just got new facilities.
