  1. For some reason I have a feeling that the Brewers will make Williams look like a man by the name of Clemens tonight. Here's for a Brewers' win!
  2. Brainard didn't look too disappointed in the loss. And then Schroeder making the comment, "a good game of hardball."
  3. I'm just hoping for two things: 1. That there is a fair share of Brewer fans 2. That the Brewers win In regards to number one, I guess it's OK if we just take the Cubs' fans money though.
  4. Yeah Moeller will most likely go so that they can give Miller an extra day off. Can't wait to see the Prince!!
  5. I was at the game again today. Here are my thoughts: Capellen did really well first time through the order but then hitters caught on to him. He had trouble with Garciaparra and hopefully he can fix that up. Hitting wise, Krynzel had a good day even though they were both singles. Lee didn't look like he was giving 100% effort but it might have been because he was playing his first game since like two weeks. The team was getting the hits but with RISP we didn't do too well. In the first with the bases loaded Lee grounded into a double play and there were a couple of other occasions where we had guys in scoring position and we didn't pull through. Branyan's homerun in the ninth was a blast. It started off a good rally that was stopped by the ump. Johnson getting was clearly safe at second base and that would have been the winning run if the up hadn't blown that call. It was clearly a double. I think the umpire just wanted to go home. They still were able to score a couple runs to put the Brewers within one. With the bases loaded and one out Overbay grounded to second and that was the contraversial call that ended the game. Yost was all over the ump. By the way it was the same ump that blew the second base call. So if you want you can say the Brewers won 6-5 but officially they lost 5-4. On the trip I noticed how much fun it was to watch David Krynzel and Corey Hart play. Hart especially. If the Brewers decide to trade away one of there OF prospects I am hoping these two aren't one of them.
  6. Well I have had a busy night so finally I am able to give you my perspective. Lil Ben got rocked in the first inning and didn't impress me at all. Kind of scared me to tell you the truth. Hopefully Maddux can work with him on his mechanics. Obermueller probably earned the fifth spot unless Glover is just lights out the rest of spring. I talked to Obie before the game and he said that he was hoping to get the fifth spot which isn't really unexpected but let's hope he can do as well in the regular season as in spring. He did impress me with his stuff though. He has improved over last year. Weeks and Fielder struggled at the plate. Weeks' batting stance is a lot like Sheffield's as you guys probably noticed. Fielder is a lot shorter than I expected. I was thinking of him being like 6'5 or so and 250 but I was surprised. Also, for his size he is really quick which is good to see. All four prospects that were in the lineup today showed speed which is a really good sight for the future. It's always nice for teams to have speed spred out. On side note Weeks and Fielder seem to be everywhere together. When you see Fielder you can expect Weeks to be right by his side. Kind of a good sign for future decisions on both players' parts. Helms showed a lot more stability at third base. I was down by the side of the field during infield warm up and he seemed a lot more sure of himself, but it helps that he knows it is coming to him. I talked to Branyan before the game and he said that him and Wes get along really well and whichever person gets the job the other will be hoping the other does the best for the team. I am still expecting a platoon between the two of them, even though a lot of people won't wanna see that. Well I am off to Maryvale tomorrow and I am going to walk around the minor league section and look for some action. I'll give ya the report tomorrow.
  7. Heading out to Hohokam today. I am in Mesa right now and the heavens haven't opened up yet but I am hoping they will by 1. Anyway sit back and enjoy the game I know if I was back in Illinois I would be in heaven too.
  8. Well I personally think that Helms and Branyan are the same caliber. Sure Branyan hits more home runs, but I think that Helms is capable of hitting for better average. Magruder and Lee are definitely not the same caliber, but imo Branyan and Helms are pretty close to the same caliber.
  9. Can't anyone read the whole post? I am saying if he continues this for the rest of spring training. If Helms continues to hit this well for the rest of spring training and Braynan doesn't, wouldn't it make sense if they started Helms on opening day. I am not saying that they should start him for hitting two home runs off of a crappy pitcher. For example, who would you start: Player A who hit .178 with 1 home run in spring training. Or Player B who hit .356 who hit 5 home runs with 14 rbi's. Now we may not even be faced with that decision, if Helms continues to struggle the rest of the spring, but as I have said in all my posts, if he can continue to hit this well against the major league caliber pitchers the rest of spring training he should get the opening day nod. Right? I think a lot of the people on here just remember the 2004 Wes Helms rather than the 2003 Wes Helms. If he did that well in 2003, it isn't that impossible to do that well again. Don't forget that Helms was injured a lot of 2004 also. Please take me as a Helms supporter, because I am not. I just think that coming out of spring training you should go with the hot bat and not the career stats.
  10. You did see that I said "later in the spring he will be facing more major league pitching." and I also said "I know right now he is hitting AAA pitching" You did see that didn't you?
  11. Now I am not going to say your wrong, because in some sense your right, but I do disagree with that comment. I personally am not a big fan of Helms either, but if he continues what he has done today (2 HRs, 5 RBI), why not give him the start on opening day. In the worst case senerio, Helms continues to struggle in the regular season and you can go to Branyan. Now, a lot of Helms haters could say that "ohh this is against AAA pitching (i.e. Wright)." I agree, but like I said as it gets late into spring and he keeps hitting well why not give him the opening day start. Also, something that is alot different than what I have been saying. Maybe this game will open the Sox's eyes again and the Brewers could actually get something for Helms.
  12. I wouldn't be surprised if Helms started as the opening day third baseman and I won't be mad. I would much rather see the crew go with the hot bat into the season rather than base it on career stats. Of course, also this is a small sample since it is beginning of spring training and Helms could be hitting AAA pitching, but if he continues to stay hot throughout spring training fans should not be surprised if he is the opening day starter. Also, again its fairly early so he could go on a long slump and this could be a waste of a post.
  13. This bites the game is getting interupted by shooting updates. I will try to do my best at updating the game through the radio.
  14. I can't seem to find the lineups anywhere. I missed what Powell said about the lineups so I can't give you any.
  15. I will have the lineups as soon as the go through both lineups once. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Top of the First Jamey Wright on the mound (6.0 scoreless innings 19/22 BF retired CF David Krynzel: 4-3 2B Rickie Weeks: infield 1B, steals second 1B Lyle Overbay: BB LF Carlos Lee: HBP, Overbay to second, Weeks to third, Nelson Cruz running for him C Damien Miller[/font][/b]: BB, Lee to second, Overbay to third, Weeks scores Brewers winning 1-0 Wild pitch scores a run Brewers winning 2-0 3B Wes Helms: HR Brewers winning 5-0 Out Out (I don't know what happened due to an update can anyone help? 16. Man I second that! All you that can get it on T.V. suck! I am just excited to be able to listen to the game on the radio, I would be going crazy if I could watch the game on T.V.
  17. Wow this is actually the first time I'll be able to follow a game live. Last weekend I was away so I couldn't do it then, and then during the afternoon during the week I am gone all day so the game is over when I get home. Can't wait to be able to follow this game!
  18. Yeah I know that it is definitely easier said than done. I haven't looked too much into depth in this year's draft and plan on doing so from now up till the draft. I say take Townsend if available and if not take Clement or a third baseman which are definitely the two biggest needs in our farm system right now.
  19. I was wondering what positions you all thought the Brewers would look at getting in this years draft? IMO,they should consider a college, a third baseman, or a catcher. I really think they need to find another Sheets esque type of player that has that much potential and that could reach the majors by '06 and for good be in the majors bye '07. What are your guys' thoughts?
  20. Wow. The offense actually scored some runs and Davis finally got that # 10 win. Good game all around.
  21. Well Doug Davis will once again, go for the 10th win that no Brewer pitcher has been able to get. The 10th win has been some kind of jinxed number since no Brewer pitcher seems to get it. Sean Burnett has been doing really well in 8 starts since being called up he is 5-2, 2.84 ERA. He has averaged 6.1 innings pitched for every game. ESPN.com Preview Brewers Preview Pirates Preview Sports Network Preview Sports Network Matchup Yesterday's Wrap From milwaukeebrewers.com: Rookie's solid outing soured late Hendrickson tagged for three runs after five scoreless By Adam McCalvy / MLB.com MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers' most highly touted pitching prospect made his Miller Park debut, but otherwise it was the same old story. Hendrickson lost for the fourth time in four starts and the Brewers offense was again missing in action for Thursday's 4-0 loss to the Cubs in front of 42,443 fans. Sammy Sosa hit a two-run home run to back Chicago's Carlos Zambrano (10-6), who pitched eight scoreless innings, struck out eight and combined with Kyle Farnsworth on a five-hit shutout. Milwaukee has been blanked nine times this season. "We gotta get more hits. We gotta get more runs. We have to get the offense going," said Brewers shortstop Craig Counsell, repeating a familiar refrain. "It's a broken record, but it's as simple as that." Little has been simple for the Brewers' offense since the All-Star break. The team is 4-11 since the break while batting 11-for-110 (.100) with runners in scoring position. On Thursday, Brewers hitters went 0-for-9 in run-scoring chances. Three of those opportunities came in the first inning, when Scott Podsednik and Counsell hit consecutive singles. Zambrano settled in and struck out Geoff Jenkins, Russell Branyan and Lyle Overbay to escape damage. "We had our chance to score a run there and take the lead and give Hendrickson a little bit of a cushion," Yost said. "We just couldn't get it done." Milwaukee also had runners at first and second with one out in the third inning, when Hendrickson singled for the first hit of his career, and got a leadoff double from Counsell in the sixth but failed to score. "He's a guy that, when he gets in trouble, he all of a sudden finds another level," Yost said of Zambrano. "He'll throw 91, 92 and then all of a sudden it's 96, 97. He gave them eight strong innings." The Brewers lost three of four in the series, played entirely in front of sellout crowds. The four-game attendance total was 167,136, besting the previous Miller Park four-game series record set in June and July 2001 against the Astros. Milwaukee has dropped nine of 11 games since splitting a four-game series with the Cubs at Wrigley Field to start the second half. The stretch has included a pair of four-game losing streaks, and Thursday's loss left the Brewers three games below .500, matching their low point of the season. "I kind of believe you make your own momentum," Yost said. "I really do. I think you go out every day and you have to take advantage of situations. Right now, we create situations but we don't take advantage of them. That's a little hill we're going to have to get over here, soon." Hendrickson (0-4) allowed two hits in five shutout innings before the Cubs unloaded on him leading off the sixth. Tom Goodwin and Todd Walker hit consecutive doubles to break the scoreless tie before Sammy Sosa slugged a two-run home run, his 22nd. "I threw him a 3-1 changeup and it just caught the middle of the plate," said Hendrickson, a curveball specialist who earned a call-up after going 8-2 with a 2.28 ERA at Triple-A Indianapolis. That was it for Hendrickson. In five-plus innings Thursday he allowed three runs on five hits, walking three and notching two strikeouts. "He's getting better every time out and that's what we expect out of our young guys," said Yost. "We know at times they're going to struggle a little bit but we want to see a little bit of improvement from start to start. Every time he's gone out he's gotten a little bit better. He pitched pretty good today." Said Cubs manager Dusty Baker: "For a rookie, he threw pretty good and we finally got to him and finally figured him out." In his last two starts, Hendrickson has allowed six earned runs in nine total innings, lowering his ERA from 11.25 to its current 8.47. Not great, but better. "I'm getting more comfortable and more confident out there," he said. The Cubs added a run later in the sixth inning when Aramis Ramirez doubled against Dave Burba for a 4-0 lead. Geoff Jenkins finished 0-for-4 and watched his batting average drop to .249. Since signing a three-year, $23 million contract extension in Spring Training, Jenkins has 14 home runs and 53 RBIs. Yost was asked if he would consider moving Jenkins out of the three-hole. "It's not like we have a ton of options," Yost said. "When he does get hit he's capable of carrying us. That's what we're betting on." Jenkins, Branyan, Overbay and No. 5 hitter Ben Grieve combined to go 0-for-15 with five strikeouts. Overbay has five hits in his last 35 at-bats (.143) and his season average is down to .326. "It's very frustrating for everybody right now because we're getting such good pitching, great defense. We've got two of the three components it takes to win. We're just not hitting with runners in scoring position and we're not driving in runs." Adam McCalvy is a reporter for MLB.com. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
  22. well it was a nice start soo far...
  23. I wouldn't be surprised to see Helms start and Branyan sit. Helms is a carreer .444 hitter against Wood. Of course Yost doesn't look at stats so we may be alright...
