  1. Well, he was given his ouright release yesterday. rotowrold has the same 3 teams being interested. ML deal or AAA deal, I wonder? He'll probably hold out for an ML deal, because once a guy like him slides back into the minors, he probably will never resurface. Someone will probably give him an ML deal because he hit .306 in 2005, but I just question whether there may be better uses for a roster spot at this point. I think he makes the most sense for a team as Michael Tucker/Ricky Ledee-type insurance (the Mets have stashed those guys in AAA the last couple years until they had an injury or two, then called them up). What I'm saying, I guess, is that I think he works better as a short term stop-gap starter (similar to Lee Nailon in the NBA) than a long-term pinch hitter/defensive replacement/bench player.
  2. I've probably visted b-r.com an average of 5 times a day over the last 5-6 years and that number is steadily climbing. Sean Forman does a great job with the site and there are a ton of unexpected features.
  3. I don't really like it. Wilkerson hasn't really hit since 2004 and he's injury prone. He does hit lefties pretty well, but I would think a guy like him could be had for less. He's making what? $6 million or so? I would think he could be had for a non-prospect if the Brewers were willing to pick up his salary. Texas is circling the drain and may look to dump salary. Not that I think Gross, Gwynn and Jackson are anything special, I just don't like dealing 3 guys with likely ML futures (even if they are probably backups) for a pinch-hitter. edit: that said, I would do Mench & Jackson for Wilkerson. Brad could be the short-side of a Jenkins platoon (despite being a lefty), and he could give Bill a day off now and then, which Mench can't do. I don't know if they would want Mench back in Texas though.
  4. Still nothing, huh? I was really hoping he'd get right out there and start playing.
  5. I think he was asking for a link where a Brewer front office guy said something of that nature. I would tend to believe they see him as a reliever too, but I would also be curious to see the exact quote from whoever said that.
  6. True, but it's 11 per 9 vs. 9 per 9, it's not like Villanueva was a slouch.
  7. yeah, maybe, except that Pujols has the 6th highest OPS+ in the NL this year and is a Gold Glover. Prince is 3rd in OPS+ and not a Gold Glover. Pujols is having an excellent season and has the track record to suggest that this isn't a fluke, whereas Prince doesn't yet (though I don't think any of us think this is a fluke). Again, if Nomar was beating Prince, I would be on the side that says people are voting for "name" only. That's not the case with Pujols at all though.
  8. They had (or said they had) George Lucas as a guest, which is impressive. I liked when Palpatine was threatening Luke and was interrupted by construction noise and went over to complain to the foreman. The foreman is like, "look, Mr. Saltine, I don't tell you how to threaten your blond kid".
  9. come on man, that is ridiculous. Pujols is having a very good year and is easily one of the top 10 hitters in major league history. He has the 5th highest career OPS of all time. Prince is off to a better start, but Pujols in a legendary player. It is totally legit to vote for him over Prince and to act otherwise is laughable.
  10. But won't Butler be a DH? That limits his fantasy value to an extent.
  11. Burroughs peaked pretty early. It does seem like he could be more useful than many of the guys that, say, the Twins have, but what are you gonna do?
  12. It might be stupid of me, but I think I'm most excited to see (that is to say, read) how Max St. Pierre does on the mound. I'm always fascinated by guys trying to convert to (or from) pitcher. St. Pierre seems to be converting pretty late, but maybe he can move quickly.
  13. I'm obviously on the aracko side of things. Barry Bonds isn't history's greatest monster (that's Steve Garvey http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ).
  14. I would look for a better return than Pence (someone more worthy of keeping from year to year), but I probably would deal Gordon if you already have Braun and Cabrera. If you are looking for a young OF with all-star potential, I would target Adam Jones of Seattle (he's in Tacoma now). He may not do much (in MLB) this year, but he'll be very good for awhile, imo.
  15. Saenz got hurt after his 1 chance, so it's not really a relevant comparison, imo.
  16. I thought the Ian McKellen scenes were hilarious (though that episode as a whole wasn't that great). "How did I know what to say? They had my lines written down on a script. How did I know where to stand? People showed me." I also liked when David Bowie improvised a song about Andy (Gervais) in a bar: Andy: [complaining about his sitcom] ...I think I've sold out to be honest. It's difficult to keep your integrety.... David Bowie: [singing] Little fat man who sold his soul / Little fat man who sold his dream / Chubby little loser / Chubby little loser / No, no not chubby little loser... / Pathetic little fat man / No one's bloody laughing / The clown that nobody laughs at / They all just wish he'd die / He's so depressed at being useless / The fat man takes his own life / no no, he's so depressed at being hated / Fatty takes his own life... / Fatty? Fatso? Maggie: Fatso, I like fatso David Bowie: Yeah, let's go with fatso / Fatso takes his own life / He blows his bloated face off / No, he blows his stupid brains out Linda: But the **** would probably miss David Bowie: Yes, Linda, I like that. Andy: [sarcastic] Yes, so do I. It's brilliant Linda. David Bowie: He sold his soul for a shot at fame / Catchphrase and wig and the jokes are lame / He's got no style / He's got no grace / He's banal and facile / He's a fat waste of space / yeah, yeah, everybody sing that last line, one, two, three / He's banal and facile / He's a big waste of space / See his pug-nosed face / Pug-pug pug-pug / Again / See his pug-nosed face / Yeah / Pug-pug pug-pug / Again / See his pug-nosed face / Pug-pug pug-pug / The little fat man with the pug-nosed face / Little fat man / Got no space / He's a little fat man / With the pug nosed face / Pug-pug pug-pug ....
  17. There is less than a week and a half to go (voting ends June 28th). Can Prince hang on? This news is sure to spark Cardinals fans to vote more. IIRC, Paul Molitor is the most recent Brewer to be voted to start. I think that was in 88 or 89.
  18. How do you mean Jenkins isn't part of saving money? Jenkins makes almost $9 million less than Bonds this year, which is still a lot of savings. Also, Jenkins is a good ML player and he's a FA, so the Giants can decide whether they want to keep him or not. I'm not saying they definitely would want Jenkins, just that they might. Also, Oakland is very close to SF, but the Brewers have a much better shot at making the playoffs then the A's do, and they are in Bonds's preferred NL.
  19. LaPorta was the 1st team DH. Hopefully he was just at DH in order to fit him in and not because that's how bad of a fielder he is. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. That appears to be misleading. I saw another website that pointed out that the Mariners signed a guy from China a few years back. He didn't work out, but he played 2 years in the AZ league.
  21. Nashville with another win. Crew07, do you really think Rottino will contribute to the Brewers? I'd be a little bit surprised if he ever got any regular PT with the Brewers.
  22. Baldelli would def. make more sense than Crawford, imo. However, neither one addresses the Brewers offensive weakness, which is OBP. Bonds does. Also, I'm not sure they will want that much for him if they do deal him. He's 43 and he's a rent-a-player (only signed through this year). Jenkins and a couple hitting prospects (excluding Salome and LaPorta) would be a tolerable price to pay, imo.
  23. ok, one quick question. What is the maintenance like over there? Do you have to mow the lawn or shovel snow or anything like that? I ask because my sister-in-law has a slight physical limitation which leaves her unable to do those things.
  24. Can they split scholarships like they do in baseball? Splitting 2 scholarships among 3 guys would still leave the players with not that much money owed to the school and the situation would surely resolve itself by the 2008-2009 season.
  25. Agreed, but bugmenot usually works. It can be a little bit of a hassle though.
