  1. if we do score a run... is danny kolb still awake?
  2. all in all, i can't say i'm dissapointed. we took 3 out of 6 from two of the better teams in baseball. our pitching was good enough to give us victories when our slumping hitting struggled against their good starting pitching. our starting pitching has really found its stride. i'd much rather have consistent starting pitching, along with kiesch, adams, wise, and kolb pitching well than our offense hitting the cover off the ball. our team has enough offensive depth so when the podsedniks and jenkins are struggling the grieves, counsells, halls and ginters can pick up the slack and contribute. the only thing that's consistently bothered me is yost. i was at the game on friday. not bringing in kolb at the top of the 9th, and having spivey swing away stand out as "what were you thinking?" moments. edit: i forgot hall!
  3. these stats on telemundo are horrible. they showed kiesch's OBP instead of his AVG when he came up, and hoffman's ERA is just wrong.
  4. i was at the game. gagne is wicked, simply wicked. does the gun at miller park go over 99? it displayed three pitches in a row that were clocked at 99 mph. the 8-9-1 slots for us have simply been murder. durrington didn't exactly help, either. even with moeller catching, there's no way he's going to see a good pitch with two black holes hitting behind him. jenkins last two at bats were embarassing.
  5. i was at the game too. long lines at the concession stands, and yost's pinch hitting (after i went through the pains of explaining stats to my friends) made it somewhat annoying. i felt the crowd was somewhat annoyed with the low score. regardless, i think the boos directed toward the viz were somewhat justified.
  6. santos couldn't find the zone in the 1st, but now it's like he's pitching TOO good. lots of foul balls off pitches in the zone with 0-2 or 1-2 counts. here's some small sample size sugar: through 5 IP today, santos now has 6 K's. through 3G, 9 IP, 10K's. through 5 GS and 23 IP, kinney had 13 K's.
  7. did my eyes just deceive me, or did wes helms just take a base on balls? a free ride? a walk?
  8. did daron sutton forget to take his meds today? he seems especially bad. SHUT UP, DARON!!!
  9. more annoying is his lack of patience at the plate, especially in clutch situations. he's always up there hacking at the first pitch. it's not like pitchers are fearful of him and are going to throw him garbage after a first strike. and this aggressiveness would be excusable if he was hitting for power, but his 270 SLG is downright pathetic. i don't like to get down on players who are slumping, but i don't see a single upside with playing him at first instead of overbay. do we have other options in the system? ginter at third seems to work offense wise, but i don't like the idea of playing people out of position on a team with defensive liabilities.
  10. is wes helms approaching a record for swinging at the first pitch and getting out?
  11. heh, is anyone still watching? i have to admit i turned it off for a while, but this is pretty amazing.
  12. will this be the final nail in the kinney coffin? and why won't hernandez pitch to th epitcher?
  13. MILWAUKEE, WI (BF) -- Following a ruling by the 2nd base umpire, players are no longer required to catch to ball in order to make a force out. In other news, batters are no longer required to stand in the batter's box either.
  14. is scotty's lack of high socks in response to him going hitless last night? apparently it worked.
  15. woot! craig counsell somehow delivers. but definetly hats off to kinney and kiesch
  16. why do we even pitch to matheny? and kinney is predictably falling apart with runners on base. but wow, he just struck out pujols.
  17. why did they intentionally walk hidalgo after going 3-1 on him, to get to berkman? i've had my beefs with choices in pitching so far this year, but this one takes the cake. even if hidalgo hits a jack there's one less run to worry about. once again it seems like they seem like they're trying too hard to get out of the inning with pitching when davis was obviously struggling. i know our defense is questoinable in places (wes helms, anyone?) but putting the ball in play seemed like a much better idea than letting berkman tee off. but then again, hindsight is 20-20.
  18. his cutter is looking lights-out... which is good, because there isn't a single lefty in the 'stros lineup.
  19. here's a fun fact: the redbird's payroll for 2004 is 86 million.
  20. yeah, i wanted to go don zimmer on larussa after they hit ginter.
  21. i nearly @#%$ my pants when bennet went up against pujols, so i can just imagine how he felt. but just imagine when you batting champ to pop out in your major league debut.
