  1. Bush was the first pitcher in 26 years to post a W in the postseason. Let the kid trot out for Opening Day against Tiny Tim. #2 is where it gets interesting.
  2. Riske's closed out a few games as well. What's the totem pole now for closers on our team out of curiousity? I doubt CV would be inserted into the ninth simply because he's too valuable as a fire extinguisher/more than 1IP reliever. Julio and Gagne? Riske? I nominate Stetter. Or Mark Rogers.
  3. When I mentioned a sign-and-trade with the Yankees, what I was talking about is that it would cost less to trade for Juan Cruz on the Yankees (opportunity cost of losing a fourth rounder) than trading for him on the DBax (opportunity cost is a supplemental first AND a better draft pick than a fourth for obvious reasons). I don't see why the best team for such a trade would be the DBax outside of them simply just waiving the supplemental first round compensation.
  4. I saw that Charlie V was cheering in his warmup while RJ was filling the stat sheet and all I could think was, "It's been nice knowing you RJ." Showcasing him for a trade to Portland.
  5. I think we should make the Rillo league keeper. At least one guy....
  6. I knew it! And the legend of Brett Lawrie grows. edit: And after reading the article, it's just what we already knew. Good story, though.
  7. What about a sign-and-trade with the Yankees? It gives the DBax a supplemental and another pick (albeit, a fodder pick). I know the rules state he can't be traded without his approval, but that would hardly be a problem.
  8. Who gets kicked off the 40?
  9. BTW-I still think the Prince is a building block for our future. Meant to put him in. PG Sessions SG Redd SF/PF Villy SF/PF The Prince C Bogut Special mention: SF/PF Alexander With a good lottery selection, and whatever bounty we can get for RJ, we should be right back in the thick of it next year. Considering that Skiles' system is more defensive-based, it was wrong of me to not mention the rookie who holds it together.
  10. Ned Yost was a year early with the idea of batting the pitcher eighth.
  11. I was thinking more along the lines of Vinny Rottino/Mike Lamb. He's a Minny Latino.
  12. Well a core of: PG Sessions SG Redd SF/PF Villy C Bogut would seem to be the ideal situation. Sessions and Bogut are best when in close proximity to the basket while Redd/Villy can sit on the perimeter, waiting for the kick-out. Joe Alexander/RJ bounty/ '09 #1 go towards complementing those pieces. Sessions gets to the basket at will, so perimeter scorers are ideal, especially because, presently, he is not himself one.
  13. I was joking about Villy, though, to be honest, he hasn't been given the longest of leashes when he was a starter. I think he is better deployed as a reliever if last year's numbers are any barometer, but I could also see him having a Ryan Dempster-type resurgence later in his career, hopefully in Milwaukee.
  14. The seventeenth pick in the draft.
  15. I'm actually surprised that Lawrie isn't on the Canadian team. I was seriously excited at the prospect of seeing his bat (albeit off the bench) versus the best players in the world.
  16. I doubt they would ship Gamel back to AAA if they brought him up, so I don't like Hall getting injured. It robs us of a year (in his prime) of Gamel. Let McGehee/Lamb hack their way to Hall's health. Keep Mat at AAA.
  17. Yovani Bush Villy Looper Parra Your best five starters. :-)
  18. I don't know if I would call the Raptors the winners here. Marcus Banks has an onerous contract and is said to be a cancer in the locker room. Jamario and O'Neal are supposedly very good characters, and the two best shot-blockers on the Raptors. I don't really see how this deal helps either team. Marcus Banks is sure to be a malcontent going from South Beach to north of the border. Marion doesn't get to showcase his game in a primetime market. O'Neal is liable to fall just short of the injury-insurance threshold (much like Sheets has done to us) and Moon....well Moon to me always seemed like a poor man's Marion, but does this trade really help them? Moon is almost as old as O'Neal and he's only in his second year!
  19. 200IP of 4.00ERA baseball is very valuable. David Eckstein...not so much. He's just a headache for the team's equipment manager.
  20. Mark Prior. Just because it would be hilarious if the guy shut down the Cubs. Then again, I'm sure Cubs would find it hilarious hitting batting practice v. him.
  21. Mark Prior. Just because it would be hilarious if the guy shut down the Cubs. Then again, I'm sure Cubs would find it hilarious hitting batting practice v. him.
  22. Yo Bush Looper Parra Soup Nazi JohnBriggs had it right. Yo has to be at the top, if simply because he is by far the best starter. Bush and Looper are serviceable mid-rotation pitchers. By keeping Parra at #4 and the Soup Nazi at #5, you give yourself the ability to skip ANY Parra start and substitute the most dependable (health-wise) starter on our squad. Yo's IP don't need monitoring like Parra's do.
  23. When are we going to have a Mark A bobble with an alternate being him in a classic pinstripe uni? But seriously, Charlie V needs a bobble and so does Yo (preferably in a batting stance).
  24. Weren't there also grumblings that he was a clubhouse cancer in Philly? It would seem to hold true considering they paid $10M for Ibanez when they could have easily signed Abreu (and Burrell would have inherited 10-5 rights, so he was no good)? And all this thought is all for naught as he is not going to sign on for NO money with a team where he isn't guaranteed to start on. It wouldn't make sense to do so if his objective was to get paid next offseason.
  25. He was also severely rushed while coming up through the minors. You could also say Alex Rios showed very little coming up through the minors, but he too was rushed and is now doing well.
