  1. I think a little "Hells Bells" is in order.
  2. Is Charlie Villanueva to the Bucks what Rickie Weeks is to the Brewers?
  3. I did mean Irribarren. But yes, if and when Rickie finally puts it together, it will surpass the rebirth of Brandon Phillips. 2009, the Summer of Rickie.
  4. Leading off! I think we could see Crabbe get some play, and there are murmurs of Escobar being our regular 2B, but Rickie is my keystone player. As for what I hope for from Rickie... .260/.385/.460. 28SB/26HR. Give me Rickie or give me MORI.
  5. 3/$42M would get it done, but I am not behind such an offer. Ultimately, it comes down to us not having the greatest of defensive wizards at our corner IF positions. I'm a proponent of Prince at 1B, but with Hall/Gamel at 3B (or whoever ends up there from our current system), I just would rather have a fascist.
  6. The summer before his crazy streak, Chris Capuano was more untouchable than Ben Sheets.
  7. He is the best bat on the open market, but I doubt a Boras "Biggie" would sign a FA contract in Milwaukee. There just are not enough endorsement deals to be had. Also, it would add another large ego to the clubhouse, when it already has two divisive characters (though I do have to chuckle at the idea of ManRam/Prince v. Braun/ManPa).
  8. I'm hoping for a 3.50ERA and 16 W's from the former Demon Deacon. Hopefully his longball tendencies are a thing of the past...or he just has a Capuano-esque fluke 18 W season.
  9. I would have interest too.
  10. A concentrated version of the Rays "MVP" shortstop, Jason Bard-lite?
  11. Also, in regards to the Dodgy Fellows, I'm sure the makeup of their bullpen played a role. Broxton was not about to go back to being a setup man, so Saito would have been signing on to be their setup man. With the Brewers, he would be signing on to be our closer.
  12. Nothing makes me feel quite as old as going to the mall and seeing these prepubescent girls dressing like the women I see at the meat markets (bars) on the weekend. AND I'M 27...with no kids...and all I can think is "Where were their parents when they left the house this morning?"
  13. I don't like that trade at all. Landry is LRMaM without the defensive efficiency. He can bang a bit but is undersized. Head, as well, is undersized. Why can't we just package Lue with Danny Gadz (allowing him to return to LA, where he has had most of his success) and get back Mihm? Or, better, package Gadz/Villy/Jones for Mihm/Odom?
  14. How many HR's could we pencil in for our 3-5 hitters then? Over/under on 122!
  15. (cough) Bill Hall (cough). I sometimes wonder what might have been had we kept him at shortstop (and traded an undervalued JJ) or traded him at his 30+ HR peak. As Branch Rickey always opined, "Better to trade a player a year too early than a year too late." As another hypothetical, does anyone wonder how good our AAA team would be next year if not for the CC trade? It's neither here nor there, but I do remember Gammons saying that the AA team was the most talented minor league team he had ever witnessed. Overall, however, The 'stachioed One continues to keep us on a good, long term course of success.
  16. No. Yankees eyeing Seaver Sheets for 2028 season (assuming the offspring of our former face ascends to the majors almost immediately after being drafted).
  17. I think we'll probably be pleasantly surprised by the signing. It seems that it is a complete buyers' market, and with the standstill at present, many FA's are getting a bit nervous. Last year, there were many veterans left out in the cold, and Looper has seen first hand (Lohse) what can happen when a FA waits a day too long instead of signing one day too soon. My guess would be this deal should mimic Cameron's (though obviously not in dollars). 1yr/$5.25M 2nd yr/8.75M (team option), 250K buyout. A one year deal for $5.5M, or 2/14 with success, would be ideal for both sides, giving security to the Brewer fans while also allowing Looper's agent to get a good salary in a down economy.
  18. How would it be so obvious, if we traded Corey Hart (a season ago, one of the brightest "cornerstones" to our franchise)and moved Ryan Braun (THE Franchise, according to most) to right, just to allow us to acquire Dunn, that we would move Dunn at the drop of a hat to 1B? I don't deny Dunn's position later could easily be made 1B, but is there a more powerful lefty/lefty combination in baseball (insert hypothetical Tex/Papi...Utley/Howard)? Pure power, no equal in baseball. And while the longball is one of our strengths, Dunn's other strength would be a welcome addition, that being his keen eye. Just as an aside, who would win in fisticuffs between Prince and Dunn? Dunn may have the reach, but I would think if Prince got up close, he would break him down fairly quickly. I'm just saying, Prince takes exception to lefties getting a big head in HIS clubhouse. He is Alpha Southie.
  19. If they're going to bring back Obermueller, then they have to bring back The Vampire, Count Victor Santos.
  20. Imagine Gamel at 3B with Lowe on the mound...
  21. I snow-blowed the plow at my parent's house yesterday (they went up north to "get away" before X-mas...leaving my sis who is home from Alabama U. at home alone. WHY THE HELL CAN'T SHE START THE SNOW-BLOW??? But I digress. I'm a good big bro). Anyway, TWICE the plow buried the driveway, but I got my revenge the second time as I blew some snow at HIM as he went by, unfortunately only getting his passenger side windshield and a bit of his passenger door. I went by the house today...to find the driveway has about 3-4' of snow blocking the driveway! Plow drivers in the cold, blustery winter are like doctors, with their God-complexes, except without the Hypocratic Oath. Treat them like lawyers and send them all to the bottom of the ocean. And yes, this is only because I am deathly afraid of what I'm going to find tomorrow after our deity finishes going #2 on Green Bay.
  22. But to assume an infield hack, relocated to left field, can easily acclimate himself to a more difficult position in the outfield is far from a certainty. What I mean is that even with such a trade of Hart+, you would still be switching Braun to right. Two seasons ago, our neighbors to the south decided that a failed infielder with inflated defensive stats in the outfield would be well-served to man a premium outfield position. The "Soriano in Center"-Experience was about as successful as "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club." That said...let's at least try it.
  23. I like Wesrob's idea. Smoltz, if he would accept it again, could be a dynamite closer. And Sheets...needs to swallow his pride and come back to the organization that knows him best. 2/$29M, with a mutual option third year that can become a player option with certain escalators for 18-20M.
  24. Effectively $16.5M over 3 years? He doesn't deserve that! He doesn't deserve 3yr/$37M that K-Rod signed. Now 3yr/$33M I could be behind. But as the article mentions, there are not many teams willing to commit big dollars over multiple years. We, on the other hand, do have a good amount of flexibility, given our youth (and fact that we control most of our young players for at least 2-3 years). How many teams are in on D-Lowe? The Yankees are all but assured of getting Pettitte. The Red Sox and Mets are efficiently using their vast amounts of cash, and both those teams also have a lot of payroll flexibility on top of that. The LA teams are both looking for offense. The Tigers are stretched. The Cubs have no interest and the White Sox (who I thought may be a dark-horse) have even less interest.
  25. Well with Suppan, he was overtly wooed by Mark A. Much like the Schilling signing with the Red Sox, Mark A. took it upon himself to entertain the highly sought after FA at his own house. The Gagne signing, however, would seem to be all Mustache. Also, the Torres trade was an exchange of a couple middling prospects for the once-and-future-closer. And honestly, I still look upon the Sexson trade as THE trade that developed the Brewers, though it could be because of the amount of AB's Sexson took for the Snakes. If only he would have traded Cappy at his apex to the Red Sox for a young pitcher (I believe Papelbon/Sanchez/Alvarez were my top three targets at the time...pretty HIT (Paps) or MISS (Alvarez) with something a bit blemished or dirty in the middle).
