  1. Suppan certainly enjoed having dinner with our beloved owner. I'd imagine dinner would be to the accompaniment of his father's operatic overtures.
  2. Much like our brethren in Cleveland annually watch playoff games at the Jake due to their even better leadoff hitter. But seriously, Rickie seems to just be playing baseball. There's no frustration or anger. He just looks like he's having fun (which is a cliche but it REALLY does look that way). It also doesn't hurt that Hall/Hardy/Kendall keep the bases clogged for him to hit with a purpose. I've always argued he's a #3 hitter trying to act like a leadoff hitter. Imagine what Braun would look like in the leadoff spot and Weeks in the 3-hole.
  3. I would think the best example of why he would take the deal is the guy he follows in the rotation. Braden Looper figured to get beaucoup bucks from a team and...that team has yet to present itself. I think Milwaukee loves Bush and Bush seems to love Milwaukee, even if he is an East Coast kind of guy. Weeks-Yo-Bush are my three top candidates for extentions right now...in that order.
  4. Isn't there a Quality+ Start? If not, there should be. 7IP/2ER. That is quality. Hand the ball to your team's top set-up man (while simultaneously preserving the best bullpen weapon, the LOOGy) and then, if all things go according to plan, the closer (because even if it's tied or close to being tied, you should have your closer out there then). An ERA of 4.50 doesn't appeal to me.

  7. I texted a bunch of my close friends last night while watching Hells Bells rain down on the Marlin hitters, "Are ninth innings supposed to be this easy? It's been so long since we've had a closer of this ilk." (I was never a big fan of Cordero. He was always more concerned with using his slider for the K as opposed to just getting a weak hit). He's doing it with smoke and mirrors I admit, but he's toying with these young hitters like a chessmaster would toy with the average joe in a match at the park. "I know you think I'm going to throw the coin but I'm going to make you look foolish by throwing melted cheese." All of a sudden the young hitter is psychologically off-balance. He knows he could deposit the cheese in the stands, and because of this, he has to throw the coin to me. "Strike Two!" yells the umpire. "But I wasn't even ready...and when did Trevor start revving it up to the low 90's? No worries. I'm no Casey at bat. Well at least I know what's coming next... Nope."
  8. If he only throws 10 pitches per outing, how is the league going to figure him out?
  9. Commander Chris Cody to the rescue. It's difficult to get excited about someone with such a small margin for error.
  10. Well to be fair, the comparison would be more apt to....Jon Albadejo or Jose Veras. What is the Yankee equivalent of Stetter? Phil Coke? Phil Hughes? Ron Guidry? Don Zimmer?
  11. Nate McLouth Nyjer Morgan Andrew McCutchen Brandon Moss Jose Tabata I think their outfield is well-spoken for in the not too distant future. Three centerfielders...a platoon-type left fielder....and a tool-box of a right fielder who absolutely DOMINATED in his first taste of the Pirates' system (before his Wife-gate incident). That's to say nothing about the fact that this gent was their clean-up hitter to begin the season. I don't see a match, unless we are ready to part with Alcides (though I also remember a certain fleecing involving our former closer). I like the guy, but he would be our new Ben Sheets, and are we all ready to give another extention to that same type of player? Injury-prone!
  12. How is he different than Counsell?? Outside of playing the outfield, which is not something we immediately need. My question then devolves to, "Should the Fukudome worry about this or should the Fontz?"
  13. Just lemonade mix-cheap beer-cheap vodka (optional....for added drunken-ness). But, as the mentioned earlier, this concoction should come with a surgeon general caveat: guaranteed to impair you. Very good chance to leave you with nasty hangover.
  14. I could easily see: SS Alcides Escobar RHP Cody Scarpetta LF Cole Gillespie C Jon Lucroy being more than enough to secure Peavy. They may PREFER pitching prospects, but ultimately if there are only two or three teams willing to negotiate at all, you can't be so selective. Ultimately, as has been mentioned ad nauseum, it comes down to whether we want to be the Twins or the Marlins. The Twins take pride in annual contention, never sacrificing the future for a blind shot at the present, while the Marlins have somehow been rewarded for their short-sighted actions. If we ultimately make a deal of this magnitude, I would be behind it, but I can't help but wonder what our team would look like with LaPorta-Brantley-Garrison-Inman would look like had they donned the Brewer blue at the Beer Park.
  15. I think the Sawx envision their long-term SP to be: Dice-K Lester Buccholz I could see them making Masterson available, but he's going to cost a good package, presumably Hardy+ (Stetter??). Buccholz is still considered to be a top pitching prospect. And as for the Kennedy proclamation, I don't see it. Perhaps you meant Phil Hughes, but he could be just as much a product of the hypefest that is New York. But that's neither here nor there because the Yanks don't seem to be interested in the LOOGy and I don't see them (nor us) attempting to fix an unbroken situation in centerfield.
  16. Suppan-Something with the Soup Nazi from the Seinfeld episode. "No Soup for You!" Hart and Hardy arguing over who looks better while being interviewed by Trenni, only to have her interrupt both of them mid-thought and slowly meander over to the batter's box with her camera crew and try to get an interview with Braun, and then have Braun say something to the effect of "Maddux was right, Chicks Dig the Long Ball!" Or the best. Have some montage of one-time Brewers getting hit after hit in some other teams unis (beginning with the Miller-Overbay-Stairs hits, then find some Loretta-Helms-Sexson/Jenkins clips vs. Bush) and then show Dave Bush opening his eyes as Uecker steps into the batter's box clad in Braves gear, and then have Bush screaming, "I'm NEVER going to get my No-Hitter!" Obscure, but I think Brewer fans would find it humorous.
  17. The summer of Rickie. The guy gave me a HR tonight on my birthday. I think we all know he needs to re-evaluate his strike zone judgement but it would seem this is going to be the year.
  18. Anyone ever made a homemade Summer Shandy? Take an empty cooler and pur a defrosted lemonade mix into the cooler, then fill it up once or twice with cheap vodka, then finish it off with 6-8 Miller Low Lifes. Beautiful Beer concoction, though I got it from a group of hospitable North-siders who invaded our park. Definitely the exceptions.
  19. I could imagine some realistic packages that the two teams could come to agree on. The Sawx are about to be the benefeciaries of the uncommon problem of having "Too much starting pitching." Or perhaps this is just a reflection of Stetter's worth, as in of all the LOOGys out there, there southpaw the Sawx are most interested in would be Stetter.
  20. Bogut was putting up great rebounding numbers before he began to get bogged down by his broken back. One could argue it was because the team lacked any semblance of a natural "4" but I would say that he finally turned the corner. He was also asserting himself more efficiently (read: without fouling as much). Also, I would argue that with RJ's stat-padding at the end of the year, that we will find it easier to unload his burdensome contract, if we so choose. Redd/Gadz will be a bit more difficult. I wish Scotty Skiles could mold Gadz into a Birdman over the winter. Or better yet, just mention to the Birdman what his home nation is and ask if he could bring him home with him to study him (and Birdman study his Dutch).
  21. The Summer of Rickie!!! The guy just looks relaxed defensively, which carries over to a cooler approach at the plate. And I am half-expecting an Utley/Kinsler-type breakout.
  22. Braddock: And in this corner, the Southy Slinger, The Punchout Kid, the Sultan of the Swing-and-Miss.... Lawrie: It's not as if I think his ceiling is that high... Just Rogers Hornsby. Odorizzi: Phil Hughes-type. Brewer: This is the year I tell you Omar Aguilar: With Pena jettisoned, he is the heir to the illustrious crown of "Best Brewer Relief Prospect" which brings us to.... The hidden track at the end. Jeffress: He's going to be a major league pitcher. But I would rather he doesn't do it while wearing the moniker seen above. His arm is a registered lethal weapon.
  23. Perhaps a little Limp Bizkit with "Break Stuff" would be a good wake-up song. Got me through my frosh year of college (8am tennis at UW-Madison....and having to hike to the tennis centre since the L was always full at 8). Also, if working out in the morning isn't your cup of tea, attempt to incorporate a stretching routine in your morning ritual. It's amazing how simply doing 10-15 minutes of stretching will set you up for a productive day....of tennis.
  24. It probably has most to do with the ownership situations (though the minor league talent level also has to have an impact). Losing Jack Z. has to negatively impact our front office ranking (A+ to A-). Our ML talent is probably of the A- variety. And yet I can't help but smile at the thought that we are truly an elite organization in ML baseball. Some 5-8 years ago, wearing the Brewer blue was tantamount to a scarlet letter. Now...ice-breaker. Telling someone that Rickie Weeks had a higher OBP than Ryan Braun last year...priceless.
  25. Reed Johnson? Ryan Spillborgh? REALLY? Why not just say "Setting aside defense, I would rather have Prince Fielder roaming center than the Cam-Daddy." And Rowand and Ankiel...they are in the doctor's office more than CF. And Chris Young's ceiling would be Mike Cameron. McLouth...do it again. Lastings.....get your head in the game. So I would rather have Kemp or Beltran, or Lastings if he ever hits puberty and MATURES... Maybe McLouth or Young. But then you factor in defense and then...how can you not like Mike Cameron? He is the embodiment of Gabe Kapler with Jr. Gwynny, splashed with a bit of Barry Bonds, the Pirate. I wish he would have caught the flyball, but I have since forgiven him. And 162 of Mike Cameron is 162 of stellar defense and one of the best combinations of power/speed in the NL.
