  1. I had a group of surprisingly knowledgeable kids behind me yesterday and even the booed Mota's entrance into the game. I'm certain there wasn't a person, Mota included, who thought we'd get out of that giving up no runs. And he totally silenced everyone. Good for him. I'm still going to be wary when he comes into a game, but that was spectacular yesterday. It kind of felt like when Turnbow got that one save earlier in the season and we were all, "oh my god, where did that come from?"
  2. I also recently read an interview with him in which he admitted he spends most of his downtime playing (I think it was) World of Warcraft. Seriously could be any doof from the stands... I know this gets me a lot of crap, but I have a mildly irrational dislike of Geoff Jenkins. Remember now that I'm only 27 and I have only followed the Brewers hard core since I moved back to Milwaukee 4 years ago. I get where people are coming from in terms of him being the only guy around on some absolutely awful teams, but in my "3 years experience" with him, he just drove me nuts. The ridiuclously little-league batting stance/leg lift, the strikeouts, the completely ineffectual late-inning one-run homers when we're down by 7. His smarmy, I could be Brett Favre presence in the local bars/clubs. The man just grates on my nerves!
  3. The wave was started down the third base line of the terrace level by the second inning. I was worried it was going to be a long game, but it didn't last long, thank god. I'm really starting to hate those clown-made balloon flowers they give to kids in the Kid Zone. I had to tell a family 4 rows down to put the damn thing down, I couldn't see home plate. As for the ushers, yesterday I went to the bathroom between innings and came back when a guy was at the plate. My seats were in the second to last row from the top, so I wasn't going to make it to them between pitches. I stood off to the side at the bottom of the stairs, waiting for a good time to go up and the usher came over and yelled at me. I explained that I was waiting for a break in the action so as not to disturb people and he told me to move anyway. I was not in the handicap area, nor in a walkway. I was standing with my back to the wall and watching the game through a handrail. If the ushers don't understand etiquette, how can we expect anyone else to?
  4. Oakland Gyros is cash only.
  5. Oh, Ok. I totally read meters both times. Makes more sense now that I realize it's yards and meters. Sorry!
  6. Isn't 50 meters, 50 meters? How can there be a long and short 50 meters?!
  7. The gallery from this first game as a Brewer doesn't seem to be up on JSOnline.com anymore, but I have a few of those saved, if you want to PM me your email, I'll send you the files. The second game, including a shot of his homerun, is here: http://www.jsonline.com/s...s/gallery.aspx?catid=1372
  8. Durham got a late jump because he wasn't sure if Pence was going to catch it so Hardy started going to third hoping that the relay would go there instead of home where they would've had a decent shot to throw Durham out.I was at the game in the left field bleachers, so I didn't have the best view of everything, but it seemed like the ball was sent to home plate, they realized they didn't have a chance at Durham, so it was cut off and sent back to pick off JJ. That says to me that JJ had no need to pull the throw, he was just a sitting duck. Am I not remembering/seeing that right?
  9. Can't the argument be made that the only reason they stop going after the play at the plate and go after the baserunner is that they know they're not going to get the run at home, therefore the run is scoring and the guy on the basepaths isn't distracting anyone or ensuring a run?
  10. If by "race" you mean "stroll"
  11. I'm so sick of the number of guys that get caught in a rundown on an RBI extra-base hit. It's happening too much and it's just a waste of an out and a baserunner. Last night JJ should have been happy with a double and stayed at second. There were no outs and we have our 3,4 and 5 hitters coming up. Why can't we be happy with what we have and stop trying to stretch things. Between that and Sveum sending Cam, we gave up 2 runs! Combine that with the men LOB and we're just throwing runs away. At least with the LOB they're potential runs. Both the botched plays last night were followed by hits. That's literally 2 runs off the board.
  12. My first thought when you said where you were standing was wondering if your spitting seeds could end up on the field/in the bullpen. Edit: I also always see people just plain spitting on the ground at Miller Park, which is beyond disgusting. And I think a lot of people put the seeds in the same situation as that. Think of it this way: You spit on the floor. The guy who's sitting behind me steps in it, goes to his seat and puts his feet/shoes on my seat (say he steps on the seat to get to his, or rests his feet on my bleacher seat before I get there). Now if I touch the seat, think about what I'm touching ...
  13. So, you have your check book with you but not your check/credit card? Isn't it easier to carry around a card than a whole book of checks? As I mentioned in another post. I understand when there are times that you have to write a check. However, not in a grocery store (they all take credit or check cards). I use to get on my sister all the time because she would not use a check card. Her argument was that if she used a check card, she would forget to record the purchase. I convinced her that she did not need to record the purchase the instant she purchased something. She could put the receipt in her purse and record it later. She has finally started to use her check card. Until someone can give me a valid reason for using physical checks over a check card, I don't know that it's wrong to assume everyone should us a check card. Actually, I ALWAYS have my check book because I'm a girl and it's always in my purse, but I take my check card out and put it in a pocket, or throw it in my purse when I'm done with a transaction and don't want to take the time to put it back and then I switch purses and I'm without my check card. I realize these are "girl-only" problems, but my point was that I've never been without my checkbook, but have found myself without my check card precisely because I always use it. It's not a choice of using the checks over the card, but a situation in which I don't have the card. Sadly, it happens a lot...
  14. I have no problem with people writing checks if they're on the ball about it. If I've had to write a check, I have the checkbook out and have my signature, the store's name, the date and my phone number written before I ever get to the front of the line. If it's a short line, I do this before I get in line. THen all I have to do is fill in the amount. I don't see why this is a problem and why more people can't figure it out. I think it's wrong to assume that someone should have to have and use a check card. I have both and have needed to write a check on occasion because I can't find my check card/left it at home/etc...
  15. Of course it has to do with the product on the field, but even two years ago, when we were still a team that could-be, the marketing was really well done and got people excited about this young team that the general fan didn't know anything about. The ticket promotions, On Deck, Block Parties, giveaways, reach out to the Latino Community and charity work all put the team in the spotlight. It helps that we have genuinely good guys on the team. Outgoing, charitable, personable guys like Suppan and Braun go a long way to endearing the fans. The primma donna thing isn't really a problem here and fans can relate to the team.
  16. I'll second that. I've heard it more than a few times this season.
  17. The BP promotion has been a huge player in the attendance. The promotions/marketing dept. planned that perfectly, using dates and opponents that wouldn't have normally drawn crowds. I was shocked when I tried to buy tickets to the Nationals series last week about a month in advance and was told SRO. I can't say enough good things about the marketing people over the past 2-3 seasons.
  18. The ad I always think is weird is the UWM one. I can't imagine that's a cheap ad space and I guess it just seems odd to me for a public institution to spend that kind of cash. I think it might pay for itself if we were nationally televised more, because the name would get out there more, but since it's mostly in-state broadcasts, it seems like it's not worthwhile. The only thing about the radio ads that gets me is when Jim and Bob are so busy talking that it's an inning later and you hear "If we'd have hit for the cycle last inning Mr. X would have won..."
  19. To an extent, you're right - we know of the fads much earlier now. But we have to wait for local stores to be carrying them. Since we don't have as many of the high-end stores, we have to wait until the products are mass-produced. Super trendy people will shop online pay the higher price and have things asap, but I think your average Milwaukeean will not being doing that and will wait til stores like Urban Outfitters have them.
  20. I wasn't knocking Braun for wearing his own stuff, I was knocking the stuff itself. I completely understand why he's wearing it and why guys on the team are wearing it. The company has done an incredible job of marketing and has people in Milwaukee spending $60 for a tshirt. Well done. I never once said there was a problem with it. What I gave was my opinion of the product. People are buying the shirt because it's in GQ and because it says Ryan Braun. Absolutely. My point about it being sold at Kohl's is that by the time a store like Kohl's is mass marketing it, it's well on it's way to having jumped the shark. If people in Milwaukee are wearing it, it's probably not all that fashionable in places like LA and NY anymore. In the midwest, we tend to be significantly slower to get fads than the coasts. There are a lot of fads I think are weird, I'm certainly not picking on this one specifically. That being said, not matter the cost of the shirt or the name on it, I'm always going to think a grown man in a samurai/tiger/wizard/dragon shirt is weird and I stand by my logic that most of you would have beat up the type of kid in school who would have worn shirts with those things on them. Now, because the shirt is expensive and Ryan Braun's name is on it, you'll wear it and I find that entertaining.
  21. Why is an Affliction tee mockable? They are ugly as sin (says the guy who know nothing about fashion). I guess to each his own, I think they look pretty sharp. I own a few. Here's the thing: It's a $60 tshirt that most people have purchased because some other dude's name is on it. Not only that, but I find it weird to see grown men in wizard/dragon/tiger/samurai screen-printed shirts. You can buy something similar at Kohl's now for less than half the price. We kept track of how many we saw at Summerfest and we got into double digits in one day. And here's the weird thing to me: the guys wearing them tend to be muscle-bound, fit, "cool" guys. And yet, these guys would have beat up a kid in high school who was wearing a tshirt with a dragon on it. Now, because it says Ryan Braun and is $60 - it's ok to wear. I just find it silly, I guess. I have yet to see a Braun appearance where he's wearing something other than a jersey or Affliction gear. He did a signing at a car dealership a month or two ago and had jeans with skulls screenprinted on them. And I just can't help but think what mid-20-something wears screenprinted jeans, you know? And pays $200 for them?
  22. I've worked in a few places that had counter tip jars, and I never saw that happen. Doesn't mean it doesn't, but I wouldn't think its common. I had a friend who worked at Starbucks and she said that money was pooled and divided equally amoungst the counter people at the end of the week. That's about the only time I've ever heard of management messing with that cash. Yeah, I worked at the Bux and that's fairly common. What I'm talking about was at a sub shop and unfortunately for the management, the kids' dad is a lawyer. The shop settled out of court pretty quickly, no questions asked.
  23. I got 2 tickets to this show that I can't use. They're in Section 3, Row AA, which are $61 each before all the fees. I'd like to get $100 for the pair, but would take any reasonable offer. I can meet you to exchange. you can email me: nicole.haase at gmail.com Thanks!
  24. I've heard of places like Jimmy John's putting out tip jars and then the management/owners were taking that money and the kids/peons were not getting anything but their minimum wage.
