  1. On WGN they just announced that we took the lead and are heading into the bottom of the 9th. They're a little behind....
  2. I feel like I need an affirmation, because I totally didn't have any faith in us winning that game and I was kind of at peace with it. "I will not doubt the Brewers." "I will not doubt the Brewers." "I will not doubt the Brewers."
  3. Why would they have the mics open after a guy hits a go-ahead 9th inning HR? That's just asking for a broadcasted f-bomb
  4. Holy Bill Hall! Of course, he's going to get plunked for that reaction/bat toss/watching the ball.
  5. As I said, we were playing to pull and it was a somewhat routine grounder in that situation. Rickie laid out for it, popped up and there was no one to throw it to. If I were Soup, I wouldn't assume that Prince wouldn't be covering and therefore would not be rushing to cover first.
  6. I would blame this on Prince, not Soup. The way Bill/Brian described it, Prince should have known that the defensive positioning had Rickie playing the pull. However, Prince was off the bag and even kind of turned around and headed a bit toward right field before realizing Rickie had it. Rickie dove and came up and there was no one there to cover. Soup got there pretty quickly, but Rickie didn't throw because there was no coverage. I don't know that Soup was supposed to/planning to cover and so he wasn't right on the bag. It seemed like Prince misplayed it.
  7. 1. People who enter the freeway doing 30 MPH. You're going to get rearended and you're going to get hurt. 2. People who wait for all the lanes to be clear before making a turn. WHY can't people turn into the immediate lane - why do they need two/three lanes? 3. People who drive SOOO defensively during rain/snow that they actually become more dangerous than the people speeding. 4. People who STOP in the middle of the road/freeway because they missed their turn/exit. This is not our problem. Go to the next turn/exit and turn around. How on God's green earth you think you can stop/hit your brakes in the middle of traffic is beyond me. You are going to hurt yourself and hurt others. The U-Turn is half a block away. Use it. 5. I'll reiterate the one about people who are afraid of their cars. If you aren't comfortable in the thing, why did you buy it? You're a risk to everyone because you're scared. In addition, if you take more than two motions to pull into a parking spot, please park at the back of the lot where you don't have to fit in any spots and have plenty of room. 6. People who slow down to enter a turn lane. That's what the turn lane is for! To piggyback on that, people who don't get into the turn lane until the very last foot, thereby leaving their car in traffic flow and slowing everyone down because they now have to go from 40 to 0 and have not had the turn lane in which to slow down.
  8. I think the argument that we needed/wanted Villy available for today is the best one I've heard. Suppan hasn't been going deep in games, he's fresh off the DL and we don't know what we're going to get and these are crucial games. Keeping Villy as an option to be able go more than 2 innings tonight is the best possible reason I can think of for not using him last night.
  9. Scemantics to my point of being creeped out by such a dark character being played by someone who died tragically during the shooting of the film.
  10. I can't even begin to put into words how awful Ned's strategy was tonight. I'm glad the Crew won, but I'm worried that Mota is now going to be used in high-leverage situations because, 'He's pitching good. He's been pitching good.' I'm worried about Gagne too, but to a lesser extent because, while Mota got quite lucky tonight (his command looked horrible), Gagne actually looked pretty darn good. I don't know what to make of all of this, but I'm sure it's probably A-Rod's fault somehow. I said basically the same thing in the IGT last night and got a lot of 'tude for it. I said I *almost* wanted Mota to do bad because I was afraid a good outing would mean he would stick around longer and I got mocked for not wanting the team to win and for doubting Mota. It's like a totally different feel to this thread. ... I still think that if Torres had gotten a hit last night, it would have been the harbinger of the apocalypse. By far the strangest game I'd ever seen.
  11. I read this yesterday and posted it in the Durham trade thread because it seemed the most appropriate at the time. I thought this was an interesting version of Ned's "supporting" his players. As someone else said in that thread: I think it was Casey Stengel who once said that, "'Potential' is a French word that means you're not worth a damn yet." I still wonder if this trade was done "around" Ned. By that I mean, Ned's been unabashedly supporting Rickie and I wonder if Doug Melvin made the trade knowing that he'd have to force Ned's hand. It's just a theory.
  12. Was anyone weirded out by the Joker character being so dark in combination with the Ledger suicide? This is totally keeping me from seeing this movie right now because it just creeps me out. I'm not sure I could watch it without thinking about that and I think it would ruin the movie for me. Maybe it's a girl thing. Anyone who took their SO that could address this?
  13. Anyone else holding their breath when both those balls went to Rickie?
  14. I cannot believe we have 15 hits and only 6 runs. Also, now that we scored some runs without the long ball, maybe Bill can stop whining about the runs off HR.
  15. Why isn't Torres a bunt there? Also, had Torres gotten a hit, this would have officially gone done as the most ridiculous game I've ever seen.
  16. So much for Rickie proving he should be the 2B
  17. Gagne on the mound isn't any worse than Braun at the plate. Between the two of them, 10 minutes is added to the game.
  18. Yet you wanted Mota to fail so we could get rid of him. I would rather win. First off, I said almost. It was tongue-in-cheek. I also would like to win. I don't think Mota gives us the best chance if he sticks around. That's why I'd like him gone.
  19. But if members of that 25 man roster are struggling, isn't using them just because they're there stupidly stubborn? I guess I feel like that's a really poor reason to use a guy.
  20. While I would agree that it's not about proving the fans wrong, I think Ned spends a lot of time trying to prove himself right. He does not like to be shown to be wrong and has stubbornly stuck with guys in, I perceive, an effort to not admit defeat. edit: grammar
