  1. I'm sure Haurdicourt knows about Taylor Green, I think he just assumes that he's not an option because people in the organization don't bring him up at all. It seems that many people are curious about this subject, so I'm kind of baffled as to why it's not a story yet. Maybe us fans should send the Brewers beat writers an e-mail to see why they aren't asking about Taylor Green?

  7. I've played soccer my whole life, and the only time I had a problem w/ pk's is when we lost on them. Otherwise, I believe they are a very exciting part of the game, and are not going anywhere soon on the world stage.
  8. I don't think, and haven't heard anything about the Padres making Headley available. He's not making much, and isn't arbitration eligible until next season, so it wouldn't make any sense for him to be available.
  9. What's the worst thing that happens if we throw Green into an everyday role in a pennant race? I don't see why we couldn't give him a chance for the next couple of weeks, and then go after a guy like Betemit if he doesn't work out. He is supposedly a better defensive 3b than McGehee, and he is hitting very well in AAA. I could see not bringing him up because he is too young, but he is already 24 years old, and has been in the minor leagues for 6 seasons. There must be a good reason why he's not being given a chance. Has Haurdicourt or McCalvy brought up his name and stats to Melvin or Roenicke? I'm surprised its not more of a story.
  10. I'd be interested in Pena on our bench. We definitely need some power on our bench, and he would provide that.
  11. I would guess he's just throwing out a random name, although he has played mostly ss this year in AAA. I did hear Melvin say in an interview w/ the Homer show, that he is looking for ways to improve the bench. I guess he might be an improvement over Josh Wilson?
  12. I wonder what it would take to get both Hardy and Reynolds from the O's, if there even available. I would think it would take at least 3 of our better prospects to get it done. We could use Reynolds next year to replace some of the power we might be losing w/ Prince. It would dramatically improve our offense. Although defensively Reynolds is having a terrible season, he was pretty good last season.
  13. Hawks on State St. is a good soccer bar. My friend told me there were around 50 people watching the game today.
  14. Thats just 33 ab's. In his other 900 or so at bats he has a .605 OPS, so I think there going with that instead.
  15. I really hope its not Gindl or Taylor Green, I think they will both have significant roles w/ the big league club next season. I will guess Mike Walker and Austin Ross.
  16. I figured Melvin would go after a reliever, but wow, this has definitely exceeded my expectations. I love it, much better than the Scott Linebrink trade.
  17. I still think Clint Barmes might be the best option out there. I don't think he's going to cost a ton, money or prospects wise, and judging by the numbers he is a terrific defensive shortstop. He also will give you right around a .700 OPS. Another guy I wouldn't mind is Jason Bartlett, he's had a bad season so far, but I like what I see from him when I watch him play.
  18. He also had a HBP. Good call, I didn't scroll far enough down.
  19. I would think he'd be pulled from the game if that was the case.He is listed as only getting 2 ab's. However there is nobody else on the box score that played third.
  20. I'd like Keppinger as a replacement for Josh Wilson, but he's not a very good defensive SS. I'd be more interested in Clint Barmes who I believe is much better defensively and will give you an OPS right around .700.
  21. I believe RR's explanation on why he was starting Wilson instead of Nyjer was something like, he is hitting so good against righties I didn't want to mess him up.
  22. I was a fan of his in the beginning, mostly because the players seemed to like him a lot. However, there have been way too many bizarre decisions and I have quickly soured on him. I would start listing them, but most have been talked about frequently. Is it that hard to find someone that's a decent game manager who the players respect? I guess so.
  23. I thought Adu looked much better than I've ever seen him during the Gold Cup, I don't agree that it is a foregone conclusion that he will never be a true success. He's 22 years old, and has bounced around clubs in Europe, he still has a very high skill level, and a great attitude, so I haven't given up on him yet. What do you consider a successful World cup team? US has been in the final 16 two out of the last 3 tourneys. It takes time, but in my opionion the skill level of US soccer has improved tremendously over the last 20 years, and we have a lot of talent available for our national team. I just think that Bob Bradley might not be the best choice to manage the team.
  24. I'd love either one of Thornton and Afflalo, but I think they will both get pretty big contract offers, and they are both restricted free agents, so I'm not sure we have a realistic chance at either one. That's the reason why I think they should take a chance on a guy like Howard or Caron Butler, who have shown that they can play at a very high level, and will come a lot cheaper because their coming off injury. I know Howard has made mistakes in the past, but not any huge ones, and he was a key player for years on a very good Mavericks team, and he's only 31 years old.
  25. Thornton would be a nice pickup. Another guy I wouldn't mind taking a chance on is Josh Howard from Washington, he's coming back from a knee injury, and missed almost all of last season, but I loved his game in Dallas.
