  1. I'm not a stat expert, but any lineup that puts Weeks, Hart, Braun, Fielder, McGehee, Lucroy, and Morgan (vs. RHP) all in order seems to me will score a lot of runs. Any lineup that puts a player with a CAREER OBP of .291 (Gomez), .295 (Betancourt), or .275 (Nieves) between any of those players is the definition of a rally killer. Betancourt, Gomez (who should obviously only play against LHP) and Nieves should always be at the bottom of the order, and never between any of the group above. Gomez batting #2 has been beaten to death, but even Betancourt/Kotsay/Almonte batting before Lucroy is a big mistake. Any details regarding Weeks vs. Morgan at leadoff, Hart/Morgan/Lucroy at #2, etc are splitting hairs as long as the huge mistake of putting Gomez, Betancourt, Kotsay, or Almonte between any of our good hitters is resolved, IMO.
  2. I love Plush, but think this may be a blessing in disguise. Here's to hoping Boggs gets the bulk of the starts until Hart returns (although here's hoping that's only a couple games) and proves to be an upgrade over both Almonte and Kotsay...although I'm not holding my breath on him keeping a roster spot over Kotsay once everyone's healthy no matter how deserving of it he is.
  3. Why? I mean seriously...why? I want Melvin or Roenicke to have to sit in front of a camera or reporter and explain to me why keeping Nieves instead of Kottaras is a logical move without using the words "veteran" or "experience." We already have a right-handed catcher, and the only reason they could possibly give me that makes any sense is defense, but being a AA hitter more than cancels that out. To me this is just indefensible, and will add to the serious problem of the black hole at the bottom of our lineup whenever he starts.
  4. Another likely futile attempt...anyone know if there's any way to see the game in Madison (on TV, not pirated online)? Man do I hate the Bucks, thank god their useless season ends today.
  5. I was at the game and at first also questioned the McGehee over Morgan decision, particularly with a man in scoring position, but upon further thinking (and yes, before the HR) I felt that Roenicke probably would've pinch-hit for Gomez in the 9th with Morgan if the Brewers were still losing or the game tied. In that case, getting a power bat in there in the 8th and your best 4 batters against a RHP in the 9th seemed entirely appropriate to me.
  6. Sorry, not looking for anything illegal, just hoping there might be an alternative to the lame-duck Bucks somewhere!
  7. I have DISH in Madison, but channel 442 isn't even on my guide...
  8. Man do I hate the Bucks. I feel like I've asked this too many time with too many rejections, but does anyone know if there's any way to watch the game in Madison? Any chance a bar or something could have the feed?
  9. Agree, though the Braves could complain of the same, particularly in the first few innings of yesterday's game.
  10. ESPN had a "panic-meter" for the Red Sox when they were 0-4. Strangely the Brewers did not have the same.
  11. From TH's blog: "Roenicke also said something interesting about the rotation. He said they might decide to just go ahead and keep Marco Estrada in the rotation to give the other starters an extra day here and there rather than skipping the No. 5 spot whenever off days allow." Not a big fan of this. By my count this would give Estrada 2 extra starts (4 vs. 2) assuming Greinke returns to start May. I recognize his stats, but also watched him serve 88 MPH fastballs over the heart of the plate for the first 3 innings last night, and to Heyward in the 6th, only to be bailed out by Gomez a number of times. I know this is reactionary, and I will say that he settled in after a shaky start and threw some good pitches and kept the ball down, albeit infrequently. I don't mind him for 2 spot starts, but adding him to the rotation when you can get an extra start or two this month out of Marcum and probably Wolf (without extrapolating it out) I'm not thrilled with.
  12. They all seem pretty forgettable to me, with Prince's being the best of an underwhelming group. None can stand up to the Mariners spot I'm sure a few of us saw during the Brewers/M's spring training game:
  13. Led Zeppelin - Over the Hills and Far Away One of my favorites, may not be a gradual crescendo, but starts acoustic and ramps up to epic.
  14. AL East - Boston AL Central - Chicago AL West - Oakland AL Wild Card - Tampa NL East - Philadelphia NL Central - Milwaukee NL West - San Francisco NL Wild Card - Colorado Playoffs: 1st round winners - Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Colorado Championship Series winners - Boston, Philadelphia (creative, I know) WS - Boston AL MVP - Carl Crawford NL MVP - Ryan Braun AL Cy Young - David Price NL Cy Young - Josh Johnson Honestly don't know enough about rookies to make an educated guess on ROY, and I just don't really care about manager of the year.
  15. Starting pitching 2010: Gallardo Wolf Davis Suppan Narveson Bush/Parra Starting pitching 2011: Greinke Gallardo Marcum Wolf Narveson Mitre/Rogers Enough said.
  16. With Opening Day slowly, slowly approaching, Topper09er and I have booked our flight to Cincinnati to watch the Brewers start their historic 173-game winning streak. So, who can help us with details about the city? Where is the place to be before the games? Is there tailgating? Bars around the stadium? Where are the places to go out after the games? How about on the off day Friday? Are there places to be sure not to miss in town? Restaurants? Bars? We're from Milwaukee. We like bars.
  17. I certainly understand why people loved to hate Steinbrenner, given that he ran the most hated franchise in American sports in a classic haves vs. have-nots fashion and certainly had a bigger personality/role in day-to-day operations than many fans appreciate from an owner. That said, I never understood why there was so much vitriol aimed at him. Granted, I did not grow up in the 70's/80's, and did not get to experience the Billy Martin/Dave Winfield days firsthand. But for those of my generation who, to this day, seem to hate him and his sons for "buying championships" and running a supposed monopoly on major league baseball...can you really blame him? He didn't break any rules (at least in terms of spending money). He played within the economic guidelines, or lack thereof, of the MLB and won division titles, pennants, and World Series as a result. If the Brewers had that kind of money, that's exactly the kind of owner I'd want us to have.
  18. Would you take this trade? I give: 1B/3B Jorge Cantu I get: OF Adam Lind Either player would go into my utility/DH spot, though Cantu still gives me flexibility on days my 1B/3B (Morneau/Longoria) are not playing. My bench player is also currently an outfielder (Ibanez). Thoughts?
  19. Someone needs to tell Macha to suck it up and pull Trevor out of the game.
  20. Spelling mistake, or Freudian slip/recommendation for Macha's replacement? http://madsenblog.dk/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/news-graphics-2007-_441537a.jpg ------------------------------------------------ Moderator note: This discussion is going on in a couple of newer topics, the most recent being "anyone else seeing big changes ahead?" To avoid duplication, I'm closing this one. --1992casey ------------------------------------------------
  21. It's not Macha's fault, but failing to put the team in the best position to win is. Leaving Hawkins in to face Fukudome in Chicago when he was clearly not hitting his spots was not in the team's best interest. Leaving Narveson in when he obvously couldn't manage to get a pitch down in the strikezone and had already given up a single and two walks was not in the team's best interest. Putting Gomez in the 2 spot is not in the team's best interest. If he had made better decisions in all these situations, would we be in first place? Probably not, they may not even have any more wins, but over the course of the year these poor decisions will add up. Of course the execution of the players is most responsible for our record, but can you really say Macha has maximized the Brewers' chances to win this year? That's ultimately the manager's job, and I think many of us feel Ken has not done so.
