  1. This is now my ringtone. Needless to say, it now always takes me at least 10-15 seconds to answer my phone.
  2. Just reported on Sportscenter...Hoffman agrees to 1-year deal with the Brewers, per Buster Olney.
  3. I grew up in SE Wisconsin and always considered myself a Brewers fan, but honestly I was really one of those "baseball is unbelievably boring to watch and the Brewers suck anyways" type guys that only really cared about the Packers. That is, until 2003, when the Brewers had that unexpectedly good first half after the Sexson trade. I was working my college summer job at Summerfest at the time and had managed to work my way to a position in the security department there where I could start volunteering for posts around the grounds that I knew had a radio nearby. I started listening to games religiously, and there was nothing better than getting paid to sit lakeside, people watch, and listen to Ueck and Powell. Then, even after the Crew fell into their monumental nosedive later that season, I still found myself living and dying with every pitch (though mostly dying). At that point, I finally understood what it was to be a Brewers fan.
  4. "a position at more than double your current salary" Yeah, current, but does 140/100=2? Not to mention the offer(s) he'll get from the west coast. "you'll work in a brand new, state-of-the-art facility" Miller Park is fairly new and certainly state of the art. "the job comes with plenty of instant feedback, both positive and negative." Judging from conversations around here, I think we all know that Brewers players tend to know where they stand amongst fans. "colleagues who are among the most highly skilled" Well, judging by last year's...uhh...bottom line, CC's colleagues in Milwaukee were more skilled than those in the Bronx. "- and highly paid -" Ok, 1 out of 5 ain't bad. Oh wait, no. Actually, that sucks. Get over yourself!
  5. I admit to not knowing much about Soto or Votto's defense. But, since that rarely factors into baseball awards anyways, here's an interesting look: Soto: .285/.364/.504/.868, 23 HR, 86 RBI, 66 R Votto: .297/.368/.506/.874, 24 HR, 84 RBI, 69 R Votto has better numbers in all categories except 2 less RBI (though all the numbers are nearly identical). Not claiming Votto necessarily should have won over Soto, as he probably deserved it since his numbers are more valuable as a catcher, but all year we heard how Soto was far and away the best rookie in the NL when there was another one within the division with numbers just as good. Just sayin'.
  6. I heard that he got into a confrontation with Judy, one of the bridesmaids, and he refused to give in despite his efforts being way off base. As a result, he was forced to face her companion, the best man.
  7. I've had recurring dreams lately where I can dunk. I can't do fancy tomahawk LeBron James dunks, just good solid just-over-the-rim dunks. And I'm not playing against anyone. It's just me, a half-court, and a basketball. Dunking. They are probably the greatest dreams I've ever had.
  8. I voted at the Madison Public Library (on the capitol loop) at 11 AM and the line was all of 1 person long. Some places, like on a college campus, will be packed all day long, but I figure in most places if you are able to go between 9 AM-4 PM you should find the least amount of traffic.
  9. I'd really like to see MLB just shorten the regular season. Even for baseball diehards the dog days of August drag on. And for all the purists out there that want consistency for the sake of records, as Peter Gammon put it, the steroid era basically demolished the integrity of those records anyway, so who cares? Besides, half of the records (pitching) will never be broken anyways. Do teams really need to play others within their division 20 times each? Of course, this is as likely as a college football playoff. It's all about the money!
  10. I'd be thrilled with 2 World Series games at Miller Park next year... In all seriousness, I really don't like the idea of a neutral site for the World Series. Home-field advantage is a part of the series and makes for great atmosphere and drama. Plus, it's not like the Super Bowl where fans can go for one weekend to see their team play for a title. The series takes a week or more to finish, and how many fans of the participants will get off work to see a Tuesday night game on the other side of the country? This is a typical reaction to a small sample of controversy (see: T.O. horsecollar tackle, replay for home runs). Game 5 was the first suspended game in World series history...EVER! And it wasn't because of cold, it was because of rain, it rains in the middle of October too. Is there that big of a difference in weather patterns on October 15th vs. October 31st? I'm not a meteorologist, but I doubt it. I personally love seeing guys bundled up in their team jacket, hunched shoulders, blowing into their hands. That feels like playoff baseball to me. Besides, how would you feel if the Brewers went to the World Series next year and all the games were being played in San Diego?
  11. So assuming Macha is our guy, what can we expect from him? Lineups, in-game strategy, bullpen management, etc.? I assume there is info about this type of stuff scattered somewhere in this thread, but I'm too lazy to sift through it all.
  12. Peavy names 5 teams he'd be willing to waive his no-trade clause for... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3649201 Braves, Cardinals, Astros, Dodgers, and Cubs. The article also states that the Padres are reaching out to other teams since they don't appear to be close to deals with any of those teams.
  13. As sports fans we all live for those games and events that make you turn to your buddy, eyebrows raised, and just say "Wow." Last Sunday's clincher and Saturday's playoff win (which I was lucky enough to be in attendance for both) were exactly those kind of games. I will be talking about those games for years and years to come. Despite the inevitable frustrations of a 162-game season and playoffs, this season has been the most memorable of my entire life as a baseball fan, and I am forever grateful to the entire organization for that. Thanks you players, thank you coaches (yes, even you Ned), thank you Mark and Doug, and special thanks to BF.net, you're like a drug that I just can't quit (even if I don't post as much as some of you!). Here's to hoping next year brings more of the same!
  14. What kind of money does Hudson figure to make this offseason? He hits for average, gets on base, and defends well. Plus, he's a switch hitter. Sounds like the kind of guy I'd like at 2B and at the top of the order. Can anyone shine some light on him for me?
  15. I like a lot of the things Dale has done, but I wasn't a fan of his saying that we weren't going to play small ball anymore and that we score by hitting home runs and that's just the way it is. It's one thing to think that, and it may very well be true and proper to go about things that way strategically. However, to me, to say it to the media/his players is basically saying "hey, we win by hitting dingers so go try and hit them. If you strike out by trying to pull one into the seats on 0-2...meh, that's just who we are." Well...something like that...
  16. Agreed. I wonder why this is. Do the players just not have "good eyes"? Are they not being prepared well enough? Or has the coaching staff just decided this is who they are and decided to go with it?
  17. This is not meant to be a vent or a finger-pointing, but after games like last night I wonder where the Brewers get their plate approach from. I am not that upset about yesterday's game, Cole Hamels was just plain dealing and no lineup in baseball would have mustered much against him, but the team's approach just confuses me sometimes. If I can sit in a bar sipping a beer and say "Bill Hall is going to get nothing but changeups away and will still try and hit them all off the top of the left field foul pole," I'm sure there must be someone in the Brewers organization that knows way more about baseball than me with a similar and much more sophisticated scouting report. So, who isn't getting the memo? Is Skaalen not preaching a good approach or just accepting his hitters for who they are? Are the players just shrugging their shoulders and swinging for the fences anyways? Do I know nothing about baseball and the Brewers are taking great approaches and I should shutup (quite possible...)? I understand this is a team that lives and dies by the home run, and that has gotten us to the postseason and that is freaking awesome, but why can't this team shorten up with two strikes and put the ball in play?
  18. Seems kinda funny to me...
  19. There really is little to no pressure on this team. Everyone is picking the Phillies. Whether they play 3 or 19 games this postseason, they will be heroes in this city for years to come. No more worry about collapsing like they had in September. Of course, pitching, defense, and hitting are just slightly more important factors, but I like the fact that this team shouldn't feel the heat.
  20. I hope you get pneumonia on the morning of October 30th.
  21. ALDS Red Sox over Angels Rays over White Sox NLDS Cubs over Dodgers Phillies over Brewers ALCS Red Sox over Rays NLCS Phillies over Cubs World Series Phillies over Red Sox Postseason baseball, like the entire season, all comes down to who's hot. The Phillies are hot, unfortunately. Here's to hoping I'm wrong!
  22. EDIT: Nevermind...figured it out.
  23. Me too...Is there anyone on the site that knows enough to post some instructions on how to do this? It really would be awesome.
