  1. Kudos to Denson for coming out. The ultimate reason that it's a big deal is that there is still a ton of homophobia in the world and especially in sports. The fact that a significant amount people think it's a reasonable for a teammate to not "agree" with another person's sexual orientation says enough. Luckily that line of thinking is in decline and things are better, but there is a long long way to go. Most likely there will be many more like Denson to follow suit so that it becomes less and less newsworthy.
  2. There's 2 guys in Oakland named Parker and Blackly that sort of disprove your theory though. You can't really trust Oakland pitchers' ERAs to tell you much about the pitcher. Both those guys have pretty severe home/road splits.
  3. Here's an interesting Fangraphs writeup about the Cody Ransom story, including the tale of one particular inning involving Ransom, current Brewer Cesar Izturis, and former Brewer Wayne Franklin.
  4. Definitely Cincy. The chances are so slim that the Reds come back to make the division. And it seems home field would be a huge advantage for the Crew in the playoffs. Of course the chances are very slim we can can the Phils, but there's still a shot.
  5. In fairness, the original post asked for this: Someone convince me that this guy is just a fraud... So people discussing his horrible defense weren't giving uninvited criticism.
  6. I agree that LaRussa is probably playing his head games, but it's really nice to see the Crew not stooping to that level. For as much as RRR's decisions can be maddening, he is really a cool-headed type of manager. Love seeing the Crew take the high road.
  7. 20-1 > 15-6 I think his point was that having a very good records vs a couple of bad teams and a mediocre record vs the rest of the league doesn't mean a team is not a legit contented for the post-season. Then again, the '08 crew had 90+ wins if I remember correctly. There's no way PIT does that this year.
  8. One thing about set roles for the relievers (8th and 9th innings at least) - they seem only to apply when it's a tie or the team has a lead of 3 runs or fewer. Those situations probably apply in ~50% or fewer of the time. I hope that moving forward RRR will occasionally use KRod or Axford when the Crew is down a run or two to help keep the games close.
  9. As of today the Brewers bullpen is 19/30 in save opportunities [...] So the Giants have 3 more wins given the same number of leads to protect and we aren't even halfway through the season. I agree that the BP is a concern, but this point isn't necessarily true. The "save opportunity" conversion totals don't necessarily translate to a certain number of wins. You may have a blown save in a game your teams wind up winning. I'd say that you should look at "holds" as well, but that's also a flawed measure.
  10. Narv certainly made a bad pitch to Morse, but the D hasn't helped him out this game, especially McGehee.
  11. BA just made reference to Hart being fast. I know brewer announcers used to talk about him being the fastest guy on the team, but that was years and several injuries ago. When I watch him now, I never see that high-end speed and it seems to take a long time for him to get going to his highest speed. Do you all think that Hart is still fast?
  12. Anyone know if the game will be on DISH for subscribers who get the Milwaukee area local channels? This might help me make a decision as to whether I should work from home this afternoon.
  13. The fact that it was a double steal would seem to require that it was called by the coaches. If not, then both Braun and Gomez took off on their own. Braun wouldn't take off on his own unless he knew for sure Gomez was going to take off from 2nd as well. Wow, Betancourt!
  14. I think a lot of it depends on where you sit. A few years back, I was in the extreme nose-bleeds very close to one of the speakers, and the music and other sound effects were really irritating. When I'm closer to the action, it's not so bad. In general I think it's fairly easy to tune it out and focus on the game if you're not too close to the speakers Also, my wife enjoys listening to the walk up music as she gets to know the players on the team.
  15. Josh Hamilton out 6-8 weeks after hurting his shoulder sliding headfirst into home plate. He blames the 3rd base coach.
  16. I pay $1000 for a HDTV. I pay $60 a month to Dish Network for HDTV. And I get a Brewers feed that looks like it's from the 1990's. I hate Dish network. What channel are you getting the game on Dish?
  17. Even though i didn't take part in the predictions, I thought I'd kill some time before heading out for the weekend by bumping this thread and seeing how everyone did. Actual Record : 14-13 Tiebreaker: 5 + 1 + 0 = 6 Correct records picked by: Sauveb, stalton, mletto157, davego, funketown Winner by tiebreaker = FUNKETOWN
  18. Come on, what's your deal? He's a troll from the JS/Sportsbubbler boards. People over there aren't feeding him as much these days, so I guess he's decided to take his act to BF.net.
  19. I experienced the same with DISH network last night. In the guide, the game was listed as being shown on the HD channel, but it turned out that it wasn't there.
  20. It's pronounced Loo croy (Lew croy). What is stressed, the 'Loo' or the 'croy'?
  21. Was Hart really positioned for no doubles? Yes. He was standing on the warning track for some reason.
  22. Great 11 pitch single there by Prince, maybe that will get him going. He swung at a lot of balls too that AB, as if to say I'll be damned if I'm going to take another walk during this slump. Does anyone know why Fielder decided to keep that ball? To give to the guy in the stands wearing a Fielder jersey who got nailed by Prince's foul ball.
  23. Livan looks a little different in that picture above than how I remember him http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
