  1. I know Greg Jenning and Larry Fitzgerald are really good friends and they do quite a bit of charity work together, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was in town for something related to that. Could have something to do with the NFL top 100 as well.
  2. Not sure is anyone mentioned this yet, I was at the game where Billy Spiers was attacked by a fan. That's gotta be pretty rare.
  3. One thing I just thought of (but might have been mentioned before... I haven't read all 100+ posts) is that signing Weeks to an extention might help the brewers get a discount when negotiating with Fielder considering they're really good friends.
  4. I'm not much into the bar scene so someone else might have more insight in that area, but there are several places along Bluemound Road to the north of Miller park where you'd be able to get your beer and festive atmosphere. Most of those places offer a free shuttle to the stadium as well. Kelly's Bleachers is a popular place and its an easy walk to the stadium if you don't take their shuttle. One of my favorite restaurants only a few blocks south of where you're staying is Rock Bottom Brewery (corner of Plankinton Ave and Wells St right on the river). I would advise against walking to Miller Park from downtown. Besides being more than 4 miles away, you'd be walking through some rough neighborhoods. You're safe walking around downtown and the area near Miller Park day or night, but the area between I would avoid.
  5. Does anyone know if MLB is talking about eventually adding 2 more expansion teams to the AL? That would seem to me to be the best way to fix the uneven divisions, but its a bit drastic on its own if that's the only reason.
  6. I think I have my transportation method all worked out for tomorrow. We'll park at either the Howard St park and ride, or the Skokie park and ride and take the El into wrigley... $4/car to park for the day and $5.75/person for a 1-day train pass.
  7. The Yount catch to seal Nieves' no-no was a bit of a show. I seem to remember Yount later saying that he didn't need to dive, but did anyway to make it look exciting.
  8. that's nothing compared to what happened to our new centerfielderhttp://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn252/jrfroe/centerfield.jpg
  9. Yesterday was the first time I'd ever been to opening day and I thought everything went well.... except the parking at least at the north lot. We had a general parking pass and arrived around 10:20, and some friends (who had a preferred parking pass) were going to come around 11:00, parking near the home plate side of the stadium and walk to the north lot where we'd have the grill heated up ready to go. We came in on wisconsin ave and found it bumper to bumper for probably a mile. After taking 25 minutes to go a block, I got out of the car to scope out the situation. I was able to look into the north lot and see that it was about half full. At the intersection where people were coming from the east and west on bluemound to get into the north lot were a couple of police officers telling everyone without a PREFERRED parking pass to head to state fair. I asked him, "Are you sure we can't get into the general lot with a pass?" and he said he was told to let preferred passes though only. I knew that was wrong, so I went back to the car which moved half a block in the time I was gone. We ended up getting on highway 41 at wisconsin ave and ended up taking a round about way to get to the canal street entrance where they were a bit more organized.
  10. sounds like fun... but I already got bleacher tickets for the 14th and I'd rather be in the stadium, rather than across the street. It'd be fun to do once with a large group. Is the test you're taking the PE test? I took the PE four years ago and the SE test (for Illinois) last year, and remember both being utterly draining.... just to be on your game and up against the clock for 8 hours is mentally exhausting. Good luck.
  11. Wow... long periods without sleep, having high energy, and engaging in increased risky behaviors...that seriously sounds exactly like a good friend of mine.
  12. I'm now at 6 or 7 people myself.... good thing about the bleachers is if anyone else wants to go after I bought tickets, they can buy their own and we could still sit together with it being general admission.
  13. I just got 3 tickets for the 14th game as well. Of course I also found out that the $11 tickets actually cost $19 after the amusement tax, sales tax, processing fee, convenience fee and delivery fee. Maybe we'll see you there and thanks for the link
  14. What is that 50-55 mph pitch anyway? I was at the Nationals game also, and my friend said "what the heck was that???... a screwball or something???" I looked it up on my MLB at-bat application on my iphone, and they listed it as "undefined"
  15. Was just checking out the baseball section of theonion.com during my lunch break and I noticed a trio of articles about NL central teams: Milton Bradley To Give Every Second Out Ball To Fans So He Doesn't Look Like An Idiot Brandon Phillips Nibbling On Pretzels While In Field Pirates Want Everyone In Pittsburgh To Stop Staring At Them Enjoy
  16. I've always wondered about this, and it seems, based on your post, that you'd know the answer. Obviously the reason you pitch from the stretch is to get the ball to the plate quicker to make it harder to steal with runners on. But what is the effect on the pitch itself, and on the pitcher. Do pitchers lose velocity or control by pitching from the stretch? It sounds like you're alluding that it tires out your arm quicker? Because I've always wondered why pitchers don't pitch from the stretch the whole game to keep the mechanics the same, or why for example they don't just throw in a pitch here and there from the stretch just to mess with the batter's timing.
  17. I think that pitchcount is a bit too overanalyzed. I don't see why everyone freaks out over a few pitches here and there. I don't see how making 10 more pitches a game can make that much of a difference, especially when you consider that they're also throwing probably 10 warmup pitches every inning that are never included in the pitch count. How come managers don't try to limit those pitches? I don't think there is that much of a difference between 100 and 115 pitches.
  18. pelfrey on the other hand has a low enough pitch count to work towards a complete game... that is unless we tattoo him one of these innings. A couple double plays will do wonders for a pitch count apparently.
  19. and fans are automatically ejected when they interfere. I talked to a guy who picked up a live ball that bounced off the left field wall and got wedged between the wall and cover along the 3rd base line. He said he realised what he did a moment too late, and they escorted him from his seat, but they eventually just told him to grab a seat in the loge level to watch the rest of the game, since it would have likely been called a ground rule double regardless.
  20. Would it have been a double without the fan interference? Uek didn't say.
  21. I've thought the same thing... you'd think that righty-righty would be the exact same approach as lefty-lefty.
  22. Those are all questions for the offseason... but we can only imagine where'd we be without Casey this season, being that he's pretty much negating the Weeks injury. I figure that Mcgehee has had a direct influence on the outcome of about 4 games, all this month: June 3: 2-5, 1 R, 2 RBI, W 9-6 June 15: 3-5, 1 BB, 3 R, W 14-12 June 27: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, W 7-6 June 29: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 HR, 1 R, 4 RBI, W 10-6 These are the games where taking away McGehee's contribution (Runs + RBI's - HR's) would have either lost or tied the game. Maybe someone has a better measure for where we'd be without Casey, but if Casey puts up four 0-fers we're tied with Houston at 3 games behind the cardinals, but obviously this doesn't take into account games lost from missed opportunities, or games won by maybe moving over a critical runner, and it also doesn't take into account what his replacement would be expected to contribute. On another note, if you take away all the games where he got only 1 AB, he's hit safely in 17 of 18 games.
  23. 1 vs NYM (1-0) 4 @ CHC (3-1) 3 vs STL (2-1) 3 vs LAD (2-1) 4 @ CIN (2-2) 3 @ PIT (2-1) 3 vs ATL (2-1) 4 vs WSH (4-0) 1 @ SD (0-1) They'll get on a roll without losing a series all month - 18-8 But they'll lose a game to the pirates, breaking the streak. Prince - 8 HR's Braun - 9 HR's Hoffman - 11 Saves
