    AKA, little Sam Weir (from Freaks and Geeks) all grows up. Maybe we should use this thread to document every movie reference used on the scoreboard at MP: Waiting, Napoleon Dynamite, Big Lebowski, Hoosiers, Animal House, ???. Pretty great list. Or, to discuss which other movie scenes would be great to use for various situations.... My favorite would have to be the one they play when the Pirates come to town, before announcing the visitor's lineup. It from Seinfeld when Kramer is convincing Jerry that he should wear the poofy shirt on the tonight show... Kramer says he'll look like a pirate, and Jerry says in his whiniest voice "But I don't wanna be a pirate!"

    I'm talking about the movie clip the brewers play in Miller Park when they list the birthdays. A kid and his family are at one of those quirky restaurants where the staff sings happy birthday, and it ends with the kid crying. What movie is that from? and is it any good?

    Here are few screenshots I took a couple minutes ago of the cubs-indians game on MLB At-Bat 2009.     Just to be clear, if it hasn't been mentioned yet (especially for those going out to buy the app or an iPhone).... currently they only offer 2 games per day that they have live streaming video for... for example today they have Indian-Cubs and Braves-Red Sox. Though all games do have the gameday audio, video highlights and condensed games available (I think 45 minutes after the game ends). I know I hate it when I spend a couple bucks for a new app and it doesn't do what I thought it would. With that said, the At-Bat app is completely worth the $10 even before they had condensed games and live streaming video.

    I just tried it out last night on the A's-Dodgers game for an inning or so. I had a wi-fi signal, and at first it was a bit fuzzy/choppy, but after the video caught up to itself a minute later, it was pretty high quality on par with the video you get for the highlights. I'll have to try it on 3G next time and see how it compares. It'd be pretty cool if they eventually had all out-of-market games available on the app(and in-market, but that won't happen). With that said, the MLB at-bat app, is probably one of my most used app's, and well worth the $10 considering you also get the gameday audio, and now live streaming video. As far as MLB going nuts with the blackouts... I don't know why they don't offer a subscription to in-market games, where you pay extra to have a specific team not blacked out. Or just pay to only get the live video to one team of your choice. The profits would go partly to the team and partly to the network with the broadcast rights. I would jump on that right away since I don't get cable, and I if I did, I'd be getting it almost exclusively to watch the crew.

    If I had to add a unique story about the brewers to that list.... I think it was the last year at county stadium when the Astros came to town. I was sitting along the first base line and the brewers were batting when I see the entire astros team, fielders, bench, bullpen, everyone, turn and sprint to right field where a "fan" was physically assaulting Astros outfielder and former brewer Billy Spiers. Before you know it, the entire Astros team has engulfed the two and all you see are cleatted shoes flailing at the "lump of trash" lying on the ground.

    Ok, I need a rule clarification here... If he had stayed on 2nd and someone got a hit/walk/HBP/whatever, is it automatically out when a runner reaches 1st? If he steals 3rd and is driven in by a sac fly (i.e. no one reaches 1st), can he score without tagging up (assuming the ump realized he didn't tag up)? The only way he would be out, is if the other team appealed first before another pitch was thrown. Once a pitch was thrown, he legally occupies 2nd base. There'd be no need to appeal... just throw to 1st base.

    After seeing AJAY's concept sketch, I could be convinced that it might not be such a bad idea. I'd think the easiest way to add the curtains might be to add them to the inside of the window. Probably wouldn't be too difficult to have the curtain bunched up above or below and some automated pulley system that could unfold it either up or down the window when needed. Though it'd be nice for the aestetics if it was translucent, so the RF terrace wouldn't feel like the bat cave.

    The shadows typically move from the RF line toward the mound and home plate. This is normal and the same thing happens at Wrigley. MP has the normal orientation of a baseball park with 1b to the south..hence the term "southpaw". Wow... never knew there was a standard baseball field orientation... do you know the reason? just out of curiousity. Also regarding the A/C or lack thereof, this is one of the perks in sitting in section 217, where I have my 10-pack. One is that its right in front of the press box, so you hear the pressbox announcements. Two, its the family section, so its easier to get tickets in the section, and no drunk people around (I never drink at games anyway). Three, you have a good viewing angle of the plate, so you can see balls and strikes. Four, alot of foul balls are hit back there, so you always have the possibility of snagging one. And five... the section is air-conditioned.... or at least the press box is, and the cool air pours out the windows (which can't close) and rolls right over the section... especially if you're in the back half of the section. As far as adding curtains goes... I think its a bad idea.... one of the best architectural features of the staidium are those huge windows under the sides of the roof. One thing I've noticed though, is that the shadows always look worse on TV than they really are. I thinks its just that human eyes adjust for the contrast better than a TV camera does. And most stadiums have to deal with shadows in some respect, so this is nothing that players aren't used to.

    I've never been able to get the thinking either.... only reason people get upset, lets say dealer shows a 5, you split two 10s and get a jack and a king (which is good for you cuz you got two twenty point hands), and then the dealer flips a 10 and draws a 4 for 19 total which beats most the table, then everyone could say that IF you didn't split, the dealer would have busted with the jack that you took instead. So they only get mad because they can see what would have happened.... could just as easily work out that you split and eat up a couple low cards to get the dealer to bust on a high card.... but then you don't see any credit as a result. I guess I see the analogy better now that I've written that out. I guess, if there is a point to having your best pitcher be your dedicated closer, is that due to the pressure felt more in the 8th than the 9th (maybe more in 1 or 2 run games) you want to have the guy who's the most mentally prepared to handle the additional pressure from the fans getting into it more in the last inning, and to also be able to bounce back after blowing a save or two. I did the same thing with the Boston no-hitter... only I looked it up on MLB at-bat on my iPhone, and the line changed probably 2 seconds after I opened it.

    I was surprised to see Milwaukee better than average in households... hopefully the new TV contract will free up money for mid-season acquisitions... as far as the attendance to viewers ratio, you have to remember that there is going to be more than one person watching in each household... I wouldn't be surprised if 2 to 3 on average were watching each of the 71,000 TV's... especially when you consider all the bars and restaurants.

    I seem to remember some of what Beane's philosophy on closers is... I lent moneyball to a friend, so I can't check it again, but I seem to remember that he used the closer more as trade bait.... I think he called it "turning the closer" IIRC.... he would inflate a pitcher's value by letting him rack up a pile of saves and then trade him for more than what he's worth.

    yesterday after the game, I saw 4 people leaving the stadium with heavy boxes with 1500 all-star ballots each. I even saw one boy (12 or 13 years old I'd guess) lugging 2 boxes which are probably 40 lbs a piece.

    I was proud of myself today, because some knob 4 rows in front of me (I was in sec 116) yelled out "HEY WE SHOULD START THE WAVE RIGHT HERE" in the 9th inning. All I said was "NOOOO!" firmly and he said "SHUT THE **** UP!" and sat down.... then I realized that I actually prevented a wave from happening at a crucial moment in the game, which earned a couple fives from the gentlemen behind me.

    You must mean that August is by far the easiest month. Only 2 of the 9 teams they face have winning records (Dodgers and Reds). September definitely looks the toughest with 9 games against the cards, 7 games against the baby bears, and 4 games against the Phillies.

    I think what rubs people the wrong way in this, isn't that he's a memorabelia hound, but the extents that he'll go to expand his collection. I personally think its a bit low to trick players into thinking you're a fan of a certain team in order to get a favor. If these players knew the whole story behind who they're giving the ball to, HY would never get another ball tossed to him by a player or coach ever again. I'm not sure if the demands are of a huge concern for me, since HY is approaching it as a memorabelia dealer would, and not as a fan, which I don't have a problem with. If its me personally, maybe I'd settle for a signed bat and meeting Coghlin on the field, and I'd be the happiest guy in Milwaukee. What I'm more curious about than anything, is how he actually got the ball, because from the replay ( http://florida.marlins.ml...tent_id=4541473&c_id=fla ) its obvious that HY was not the guy who caught the ball in the Tundra Territory. If he bought it off of a guy who didn't know it was the player's first HR for $20 or whatever, then maybe I'd have a problem with HY making the demands he did.

    Does anyone know if HY was the one that actually caught the ball? If you look at the highlight ( http://florida.marlins.ml...tent_id=4541473&c_id=fla ) it landed in the Tundra Territory, and although I've never seen HY, it definitely doesn't look anything like the picture someone posted earlier, or like someone wearing any marlin's gear.

    Coincidently, I believe Jordan's tongue thing also a tribute to his dad. hilarious... I thought you were making that up about the Jordan tongue, til I looked it up for myself. I always thought it was one of those semi-involuntary things that some people do when they are concentrating.
