  1. Wow, that's a lot to give up for Mike Adams. People thought that was the package the Pads wanted for Bell.
  2. Don't really want Stewart. Don't see how he'd help at all when we have a bunch of guys already on the roster and in AAA that are better than him.
  3. Yeah, like I said before I'm sure he preferred to start Kotsay in RF today, but he's not gonna bench Hart after a 4-5 game.
  4. Why? Hairston and Lopez can take starts from Yuni and McGehee if they struggle. At the moment, both are swinging the bat pretty well. That will probably change, which is why we have insurance. What everyday 3B or SS was out there that ended up being traded besides Furcal? No one. And Furcal has his question marks. Not a whole lot more Melvin could do unless Barmes was available, and he clearly isn't.
  5. In all seriousness, I'm sure Roenicke just wanted to get Kotsay a start. He needs to stay sharp so he's effective off the bench. I would be willing to bet he was scheduled to start for Hart until he went 4-5 yesterday. Counsell I can't explain. Hairston should be getting that start.
  6. We didn't need rotation depth. K-Rod filled a HUGE need for us. The Cardinals still don't have a great bullpen. We have a great rotation AND bullpen now. I'd take Furcal over Lopez and Hairston, but we haven't seen if he'll produce and stay healthy yet. We also payed a lot less of a price for the guys we got. I think Melvin did better.
  7. All I have to say about our lineup is that we're playing the Astros and look at their lineup. Enough said.
  8. Is getting Jackson and Furcal really any better than getting K-Rod, Hairston, and Lopez? I don't think it is.
  9. They also said they want to sign him to an extension a month ago..... nothing more than posturing. He's still a FA at the end of the year and they won't hesitate to deal him if someone offers a good enough package. They already said they won't trade him, because they know there will be an uproar from their fan base and they won't sell tickets. Not happening.
  10. He's not exactly lighting the world on fire, but is 8 for his last 28. So he's getting it together a little bit. Pretty sure the price was either too high for Melvin, or our scouts just didn't like what they saw.
  11. Hart 9 Morgan 8 Braun 7 Fielder 3 Lopez 4 McGehee 5 Betancourt 6 Lucroy 2 Gallardo 1 Guess Hairston won't be there in time.
  12. Yeah, I'd like that team a lot. Won't happen though. Betancourt will for sure be on the team at least. Wilson will be gone when Weeks comes back before September. If not, it won't even matter and we'll just keep everyone. Gomez won't be back until September either, so we won't have to make a move for him.
  13. I still think Jamey Carrol will be out there sometime in August if need be. The Dodgers say now they would only trade one of Furcal/Carroll, but I think Carroll will be available down the road. Not that we'll need him, but we might. Time will tell.
  14. He doesn't appear to have one.Yes he does. The news broke because he tweeted to Chris Singleton that he got traded while Singleton was on air I believe.
  15. Well, if Carroll goes then Hairston might be arriving at Miller Park and then trotting right into CF tonight.
  16. Reyes? They said he's unavailable a long time ago. There's been no talk about him by anyone. He won't be traded. 0% chance.
  17. Anyone know Hairston's twitter name or follow him? I wanna see what he's saying about this trade.
  18. I think Hairston replaces Carroll on the roster, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that Melvin could make another move for an IF and replace Wilson.
  19. At this point, I'm guessing the Dodgers are asking too much for Furcal/Carroll, so Melvin made the smart move and got a versatile player in Hairston. If Yuni and McGehee hit the wall, then he can look for help in August. I hope the Cards overpay for Furcal and he ends up sucking. I'd enjoy that. But knowing the Cards luck, he'd play like an all-star for them.
  20. Doubt this trade has any chance of happening now that we got Hairston. Not saying it did to begin with, but I'm sure it's dead now. Hairston is the new CF platoon option, and Melvin will likely get a LH reliever in a waiver deal in August when they'll come cheaper.
  21. For the time being I agree, but he's more that that going forward. He's insurance. Betancourt is hitting now and McGehee is doing just enough to hold his spot. (.353 w/ .988 OPS last 7 days) The signs of life coming from those two combined with the exorbitant cost being demanded by teams out of the race for their disposable infielders has most likely convinced Melvin not to go too big. What Hairston gives them is a guy they can feel confident plugging in there if McGehee or Betancourt fall back on their faces. I think Mark A. knows that buying high salaried waiver dumps in August is the way to go anyway. Yeah, I agree. If Yuni and McGehee continue to struggle, I'm sure the prices for players will go down in August. For now, this is a good trade to make.
  22. This trade makes me wonder how much the Dodgers were asking for Furcal or Carroll, or the Astros were asking for Barmes. Had to be through the roof I'm guessing. At least in Melvin's eyes.
  23. I'm happy to get a guy like Hairston. Very versatile, and a better hitter than Counsell, Wilson, and Carroll. He can platoon with Morgan in CF, and get some starts at 3B and SS as well. Good trade Doug.
  24. It was interesting to see Pence get pulled after taking the field. I was at the game and had actually seen on twitter during the top of the inning that Pence had been traded, so I was waiting for it to happen. I told my dad about it before he took the field. I actually didn't think he would take the field, and was surprised that he did. No one else around me knew what was going on so I spread the word. Not very often that you see a player traded during a game. Kind of cool to see it. Then see him hugging his teammates in the dugout and leaving. I had a perfect view of that from where I was sitting.
