  1. True, but I'd want legit, proven power. There's no guarantee that Katin would succeed in the majors. I'd rather have Branyan or Stairs personally. Guys who have proven they can hit for power off the bench.
  2. It's only 3-6 games until Hart comes back, so they'll probably just keep a short bench until then. He might come back during the Reds series. At that point, I'd guess Kintzler goes down.Yes its 3-6 games for no discernable reason. And the Brewers have no power threat on the bench now.I never really considered Kottaras a true power bat, but basically we were stuck that way so far anyway. If we want a power threat on the bench, we'll have to look elsewhere. Boggs is just as much of a power threat as Kottaras in my opinion.
  3. Well, technically if you extend both guys, you would be signing them to 5 year deals, and could possibly up their salaries for next year also. It's possible that Greinke would take that deal. We may have to go into one or two of Braun's high paid years to keep Greinke though, so that's taking a big risk. $40 million or so to two guys is a lot of money. That wouldn't be until 2016, but it's still something to think about.
  4. Not sure. I know he hasn't been outrighted before, which was a reason why Melvin said they chose him and not Nieves. But I thought he said that he still had to go through waivers, so they were still worried about that.
  5. Hart isn't in the Nashville lineup tonight. I'm guessing he's just getting a day off, but never know.
  6. I would think the plan is to extend Greinke and Marcum for 4 more years until Braun's deal escalates. Then hopefully by that time some of our pitching prospects will have panned out, so we can get by with a cheaper staff for awhile. We could be very deadly with Greinke, Marcum, and Gallardo all in the rotation through 2015. I would love to see that happen.
  7. Well, hopefully we dump Almonte when Hart returns in the next few days. Then when Plush returns it'll be a choice between Boggs and Kotsay, and I think we all already know what the result of that decision will be, regardless of any numbers Boggs puts up... No, because we are carrying 13 pitchers. A pitcher will go when Hart is activated. Then either Boggs or Almonte will go when Morgan comes back.
  8. Blasphemer! How dare you rag on Mr. Plush! Mods, feel free to exercise the ban hammer. We cannot stand for this blatant disregard for Plushdamentals. The reason it's not bad has nothing to do with Plush. I hate not having him available. The reason it's not bad is because Boggs will come up and prove he's better than Almonte. So we'll dump Almonte when Plush returns in about 10 days. That's a good thing.
  9. This really isn't so bad. I'm hoping Morgan comes back the first day he is eligible, and then Boggs never goes back down. Hopefully Almonte goes instead of him.
  10. I think it was just a case where they were hoping it was an injury that would heal faster. Roenicke seemed to think it was. Then it just didn't heal the way they wanted, so they'll up Boggs for the extra bat. Morgan will be able to be activated by April 30 anyway, so it's not that bad.
  11. It's only 3-6 games until Hart comes back, so they'll probably just keep a short bench until then. He might come back during the Reds series. At that point, I'd guess Kintzler goes down.
  12. Now, the best thing that could happen is we dump Almonte and keep Boggs when the time comes for Morgan to come back. We are carrying an extra pitcher for now, so I think we'll just send one down when Hart is activated.
  13. http://brewersbeat.mlblog...rgan-expected-to-hit-dl/ Well, this article explains a lot. Sounds like the moves had to be made so Marcum could return to the team Friday. Also, Nieves was kept because they had a greater chance of losing him, either to waivers, or him refusing an assignment.
  14. http://twitter.com/#!/Haudricourt/statuses/61189503779487745 Looks like Boggs is coming up, and Morgan on the DL. Hopefully Boggs comes up and never goes back.
  15. Crap. But at the same time, I'm happy Boggs is coming up. Hopefully he'll get some starts over Kotsay and Gomez, and then he'll stay on the roster even when Morgan comes back.
  16. Nieves is actually slugging better and getting on base more than Kottaras at this point. Kottaras is clearly a better hitter, but he's not that great. He's also absolutely awful defensively, which is probably the only real reason why he wasn't kept. If Lucroy got hurt for an extended period of time, you'd have to think Doug would try to acquire someone better than both of these two.
  17. Yeah, I'm guessing they'll just wait until the game at Nashville tonight is over. Maybe an early Hart activation? I doubt it, but it's possible.
  18. Or, is the reason for clearing a 40-man spot, that we are claiming someone? Such as Brandon Wood? I hope not, but it's possible.
  19. With Kottaras getting sent to AAA, and no move being made, let's hope Boggs gets recalled, and Almonte gets DFA'd when Hart returns.
  20. My dream here would be Boggs getting called up tomorrow, and Almonte getting DFA'd when Hart comes back.
  21. Well, can't say we all didn't see this coming. Bad decision in my opinion, but in my opinion neither player was that great anyway. Nieves will play once every 5 games at most. Kottaras is clearly a better hitter, but we all knew they wanted Nieves for some reason. I don't think Nieves is a good defensive catcher, but Roenicke and Melvin apparently do. Either way, I don't think it'll matter that much. It's a backup catcher, it is what it is. The thing that makes no sense, is why we sent down McClendon already when Marcum doesn't pitch until Saturday. The only thing I can think is that Marcum has to be activated to be able to join the team off the bereavement list, and they wanted him with the team earlier than Saturday. Otherwise, I have no idea. I guess they couldn't decided what other pitcher to demote right now. Probably because Kintzler has pitched well lately. Although, he might go down when Hart is activated.
  22. So happy about this deal. It is great for this organization. To have a player this committed hasn't happened since Robin Yount. It's great to see a player like Braun agreeing to stay here. I love it! It feels great to know that we have a player of this caliber locked down for basically the rest of his career. Braun is clearly the next Brewer lifer, and I couldn't be happier about it. This just makes me love Braun more than I already did. Great move on his part too. Maybe some more players will see the light now that he did this. I think this is set up so we can lock in Greinke and Marcum through 2015. Then after that, we have to hope some pitching prospects will pan out, and then we'll be good to go. Maybe Fielder should've done the same, but it would never happen with Boras. Too bad, but I love that we will have an all-star starter on our team for the next 10 years. Great day in Brewers history!
  23. I agree with you that it would be smart to use Kottaras as a pinch-hitter, I just don't see it happening much. Roenicke for some reason thinks Kotsay can hit for power, and I would assume he would use Counsell and Morgan before Kottaras also. Morgan will start more, which would put Gomez on the bench. It wouldn't surprise me to see even Gomez hit before Kottaras.
  24. How many situations would Kottaras actually pinch-hit in though? He probably should get opportunities, but I would think that Kotsay and Counsell would be used ahead of him, and Morgan also if he isn't starting. Not saying that's how it should be, but that is likely how it would go.
  25. Yeah, the idea makes sense. I just don't see the point of keeping Nieves on the roster though. It seems like he'll rarely play, and he's worthless as a pinch-hitter. His only use is to sit there as an emergency third catcher. They might very well do it for awhile when Hart comes back, but it's hard to believe them going with 3 catchers all year.
