  1. I'd rather have CC, because Melvin has already said that he won't spend the money on multiple players if we don't sign him. Basically, if we sign CC, our payroll will be higher, if we don't it will stay around where it's been in recent years.
  2. Hall should just return to his role as super-utility man. If we have to use him in a platoon I can live with that, I just don't think he can cut it as an everyday player anymore.
  3. I agree that these comments do sound like they are coming from a small market team. It seemed like that might change when CC came to town, and we finally made the playoffs. I guess it was just wishful thinking. I'm not saying that Melvin won't do anything. I just don't see him making any big free agent signing, or trading someone like Hardy to get a legitimate starting pitcher to fill the spot of Sheets and CC. I guess we can be a winning team as we are now, but I really don't think we could make the playoffs with our current roster. We need another strong starter and some serious depth in the bullpen in order to compete. It also would help a lot to get some lefty balance for our lineup, and at least get on the road towards becoming a more balanced offense that doesn't rely so much on the homerun ball.
  4. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/35629934.html This doesn't make me too excited about what will transpire this offseason. He sounds content with what we have now, which worries me a lot. If we don't trade Hardy or Escobar, how will we get a pitcher? Especially since he says he doesn't want to sign one through free agency. A Hall/Lamb platoon makes me wanna puke. I also don't like that he won't even try to go after any of the closers. One thing I do like is not rushing Escobar, but we have don't have many pieces to get a pitcher besides Hardy, except Fielder or Cameron. He won't trade Fielder because he's the only lefty we have, and Cameron will only go if he finds a quality centerfielder to get back, whuch is also unlikely. Ugh. If he stands pat other than signing some nobodies for the bullpen and maybe making a minor trade for a back end starter, I will be pissed. This team can contend with some good moves.
  5. Yeah, that would really suck to not get a first round pick back for CC. Isn't it the top 15 teams that we would get a first rounder from? I'm pretty sure that's the rule. The Giants aren't close to that group.
  6. So long CC. Thanks for everything!
  7. How can anyone say they would be upset if we signed CC? That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I would be pissed if we signed Sheets to that 3 yr./$36 mil deal that is listed above. That would be a horrible move. In fact, I would question all 5 of those moves, except for the Suppan/Hall trade, which would never happen.
  8. Keep in mind that none of these teams are the Brewers, nor have we ever been mentioned or tried to acquire a Japanese player, except the 39-year-old lefty talked about in another thread.
  9. We were on pace to be wild card contenders before we ever traded for him and if we hadn't had a complete offensive meltdown the last month of the season we would have cruised into the playoffs and he wouldn't have been the reason for it. You just proved my point there. Our offense would've been our downfall without CC. The exact same thing will happen again without him. This type of offense will have lots of meltdowns like that. We need to improve on that or we won't make it back to the playoffs. We wouldn't have made it without CC because of that meltdown, which proves that our offense needs work.
  10. The Brewers will never have a shot at any Japanese player, because we are not a big market team. Japanese players are more marketable in larger markets, and want to play there. As medinawi said, we don't have close to the amount of money it would require to even talk to one of the Japanese free agents.
  11. Well the arby deadline is December 1, so we can get something going there and then sign him if he isn't offered arby. Not that hard to do. There is no way the Padres will offer him arby after offering $4 million per year. So if we wait until December 1 we should be good to go. If CC hasn't signed with anyone by the arby deadline, and Melvin doesn't act, we will probably lose out on early shots at some free agents. So, I hope CC decides soon.
  12. I said we won't make it without CC unless we improve our offense. If we improve our offense within this offseason, and acquire another solid starter, we can easily make it again. If we fail to re-sign CC and don't acquire another starter, our rotation will lack depth and experience. If we have that rotation and the current offense we have, we will be lucky to get a .500 record, much less make the playoffs. I have faith in Melvin to pull something off though. I think we will compete again, even if we don't make the playoffs. I think we will for sure be back within the next 2 years, you can count on that.
  13. I get that, I would just like to see something about us talking to some closers. I would consider Wood and Hoffmann for sure. I think Hoffmann is a better fit, and won't be offered arby. He could also come at a decent price for a 2-year deal. I think we could afford him and CC. I really don't like the closers available by trade. I would go after Hoffmann personally.
  14. IMO we shouldn't be waiting around to find a closer. That is a huge need. We have no one on our roster that I would be comfortable with closing games for us. Please, no one suggest McClung, Villanueva, Bush, or anyone like that. McClung has control problems, and I actually like him as a starter, especially if we don't get CC. Bush has to be a starter either way, and Villanueva is too good in his role to move him. We NEED to look at outside options for closer.
  15. I really wish I knew which players would be signing there. I would be totally willing to shell out $25 for Braun, Fielder, Hardy, CC if he's here, and others like Gallardo. How many different players can you buy tickets for? Does anyone know?
  16. I'd be for that situation, only if we can acquire a superior defensive 3b, who is also preferably a lefty. Although, I would not be too happy with Hart in cf. I would definitely rather trade him and go with Cameron, or acquire a new cf, such as DeJesus.
  17. I agree witht that Invader3K. I would keep Braun in lf, because he was servicable out there. He wasn't a gold glover, but he didn't make errors. He also had a fair amount of assists. The only move I would make with him is to rf, and only if we get an outfielder who would be a liability in cf or rf. I said earlier in this thread that Braun would be a far better candidate for rf then he would for cf. I think Braun could be a better outfielder then Hart in time.
  18. I have sat everywhere in Miller Park multiple times. My friend has a field outfield 20-pack and I have a loge infield 20-pack. I by far prefer my seats over his. I feel so much close to the action in the loge. Actually, loge infield is closer to the plate. You will get a much better view of the entire game from loge infield. I would highly recommend these seats. I would also suggest seats right around either 1st or 3rd base, whichever side you prefer. I think those provide the best view from the loge, although loge outfield aren't a bad perspective either. The loge level is my favorite level in the park by far. Some of the sections are bigger than others, so I would recommend getting in a smaller one if you don't wanna stand up for people all the time. I am sitting in the middle this year to avoid the frequent goers. Aisle seats aren't always as appealing as they may seem.

  20. I agree. Melvin doesn't have to wait around to bid on a closer. CC only affects whether or not we trade for a starter.
  21. The bottom line is that we aren't a playoff team without CC, unless the offense improves. Without CC we would've been out of the playoffs last year. If we don't improve our offense at least in one area, we will not make the playoffs without CC. It's as simple as that.
  22. Ok, so we made the playoffs. Keep in mind that we barely made it in as the wildcard. And that was only because the Mets choked it up. The Mets had a much more balanced offense then we did. Without CC we don't come close to the palyoffs last year. We wouldv'e been at least 5 or 6 games out. Our offense is nothing to be proud of. It especially would look bad without CC next year, and without any changes. 6th in the NL in OPS won't cut it if we wanna make the playoffs next year. We will need to rely on our offense a lot more to win next year, which worries me if we keep up with our do-or-die philosophy. The big difference between us and the Phillies was the ability to get the big hit. We hardly ever did it last year. They seemed to frequently do it, which is important with a home run hitting team. I mean sure, we had a few big hr's from Braun which saved our season, but we never would've needed those to get there if we could've beeen just average with RISP all year. We could've beaten the Phillies if we had any timely hitting at all. We don't need guys going up there swinging for the fences every time, we need a better approach up there. People can blame Skaalen all they want, but it's the hitters mentality that does it.
  23. Why don't we need to make significant changes? Our offense sucked for most of the year other than hitting home runs. It's impossible to get anywhere with a team that relies on the home run as much as the Brewers do. The reason our OPS was that high was because of purely the slugging percentage. However, we had no one on base in front of our slugging. We need good OBP to win games, and much better situational hitting. We need to steer away from our do-or-die offense. Living and dying by the home run ball is not the way to go. We need at least 2 more lefty bats in our lineup, preferably people with high OBP. Our offense couldn't score runs down the stretch, that was our downfall. OPS doesn't define an offense. If it did, we would've had a lot more run production this year, and won a lot more games. Maybe if we had more runners on base, and could actually drive them in, we would have a good offense.
  24. Why do people even mention Hall and Branyan when talking about 3b? They have both proven that they suck. Branyan may hit some hr's, but he offers nothing else. Hall is pretty much the same, except he hits less hr's. We need to steer away from being a hr hitting team and focus on OBP. Neither of those guys bring that to the table.
  25. I believe in Doug Melvin. He isn't just sitting on his hands. Sure, he is waiting to see if CC signs before doing anything else, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have trades on the table based on whether CC signs or not. He may have deals worked out for either scenario for all we know. I'm sure he has also reached out to multiple free agents in the case of either scenario as well. No one needs to be panicking right now. Melvin WILL make moves. Why does it matter when they happen? Let's just hope that the first move is re-signing CC!
