  1. Personally, I see Clay being in a similar situation as Julius Peppers playing fewer snaps in a dual role. Except instead Peppers playing OLB plus DL on passing downs, Clay would be playing MLB and OLB on obvious passing downs.
  2. Unfortunately, that was when I turned it on. Then I turned it off about two minutes later. Blah.
  3. Frankly, Happ hasn't played well the last couple weeks either. Maybe he just plays bad when I watch him, but despite his numbers, he never really impressed me. KI looked like a player the last couple weeks. Gard isn't on the hot seat yet, but I think a decision will be made at the end of next year. This senior year was Ryan's last recruitment year. The junior group was a bit of a transition (non-existent) group. Next year's main contributors (Junior, Soph, and Freshmen) will all be Gard's guys running his offense and defense (I think Happ heavily influenced both of those). If they completely flop and guys are showing minimal development, I think they should be looking elsewhere.
  4. I'd like to take this time to just point out that "one guy" (i.e. Clancy) isn't the one derailing this thread about 3B...
  5. [sarcasm]Whew! Look at all that money we just saved![/sarcasm]
  6. I'm going to say: 1) Badgers BB 2) Bucks 3) Brewers 4) Badgers FB 5) Packers Because that is the order of the next five championships! (BTW, Wisconsin-rose colored glasses are now available in a Pro-shop near you). But it is seriously nice to have realistic odds to win for the Bucks, Brewers and Packers. And a co-worker and I were just talking about the demise of the Illinois college teams compared to the relative success of the Badgers (20+ NCAA tournies and Bowl games in the last 25 years).
  7. It was more than a couple flash plays. He was very steady the last 5-6 games. Yes, he was slower. Yes, he is replaceable in the draft. Just for that price, it would've been nice to bring him back. If he cost $7-8M, I would've changed my tune.
  8. Yeah, that stinks. He was the one FA that really made sense to keep at market price. I like our quartet of young CBs (and even sextet including the couple raw CBs we picked up late last year), but they could use an experienced CB to lean on. And no, Williams isn't that. He is probably our starting FS and I'm not sure he has the wheels for CB anymore.
  9. [sarcasm]Dude! I'm the best arm-chair scout around! [/sarcasm] Seriously though, LouisEly always seems to have a decent eye with his draft predictions which should be coming out pretty soon.
  10. On the plus side, Giannis' 3pt shot is looking pretty natural now. A big improvement on early in the season. However, I kept wondering what the Bucks would be looking like this year if they had drafted Embiid instead of Parker. *drool...*
  11. I've not seen the contract numbers for Ryan, but I'm guessing its a low $$ with incentives and a good team opportunity for him. Most of our other guys are probably trying to maximize their contract.
  12. If you have 3 infielders to the right of second base, yes. But this could still be done if someone is on 2nd and you need Shaw covering third to prevent steals.
  13. Do you think Moustakas would be better? Beyond the "click bait" part of my title, the main point was to put Arcia in a position to field a higher percentage of balls than anyone else on our infield. 90% of Arcia's value is in his defense. So I'm advocating that with an infield of Shaw, Arcia, Moose, and Aguilar/Thames, I'd put Arcia wherever the metrics say he will get the most balls. Among those 5 players, he is by far the best defender at SS/2B. And probably 3B/1B too.
  14. With all the talk of shifts and defensive positioning, this idea came to me while reading about Moustakas' range at 2B. When we have a left-handed batter (or anytime we have a higher likelihood of hitting the ball to the 2B side), why not simply swap Arcia and Moose defensively? Normally, your 2B doesn't have a strong arm, but Moose is normally a 3B, so that shouldn't be an issue. You can use two shorter-range players (Shaw/Moose) to cover the left side of the infield while letting Arcia manage the area where the ball is more likely to be hit. This is also a "shift-rule" proof solution also if they would implement a rule like that in the future (granted, not this year...)
  15. Most of it was based on writers talking about Lefluer's style and the coaching tree he came from. Signing Lewis is probably another hint of needing better blockers at TE. Hopefully, he is smart enough to coach what he has rather than the other way around. However, I was comparing Fant and Hockenson a little closer this morning and was surprised at how similar body types they have. Fant actually has larger hands and longer arms than Hock, and only 1/2 inch shorter at essentially the same weight. Everything that I've read said he a pass catcher only. Maybe I'm projecting too much Irv Smith on him. But despite all of that, having a TE that can do both exponentially improves the offense as defenses can't assume pass vs. run based on personnel.
  16. Generally, I'm opposed to giving a player his second FA contract unless he is a special player. Daniels is good, but not special. And as PBIB said, slipped a bit. Save the money for Clark and draft a DL.
  17. Now that my shock has wore off from the FA blitz we just put on, I think we are in a very interesting position for the draft. If Sweat falls to us, I think you have to pull the trigger despite our OLB FA binge. He is a boom or bust guy, but we would be in the position to handle the "bust" if necessary. Otherwise, I see White or Hockenson at #12 (or perhaps trading down to #15 with the same result). Hockenson is a unique player that aligns better with LaFleur's offense than Fant. White fills a need at ILB and protects against losing Martinez next year. I could see a T/G going here too. At #30 and 44, I could see a focus on S and DL (Daniels a FA next year). Then in the 3rd and 4th rounds you can address G/C and RB.
  18. We also have dead money coming off the cap next year. All of Perry's $10-11M went on this year with no impact next year. William's $6M, Bulaga's $6M, Daniel's $11M and Crosby's $5M will come off due to FA (a few less expensive players too like Martinez and Spriggs). Plus, Graham could be cut to save $6-7M. Granted, that leaves big holes at DL, RT, K, and ILB.
  19. The fact that we have enough posts to make a new "What's bugging you?" for each year, but our "What's not bugging you?" post has been around since 2013.
  20. I've had MLB.TV for the last couple of years since I moved to MN. However, this year I started my Master's degree, which makes me a student. Hello 35% discount.
  21. [sarcasm]What?!? Trade our #44 pick for him![/sarcasm]
  22. From the descriptions, people have of Amos (here and elsewhere), I don't think its all that off base. Burnett was a non-flashy, dependable, always-in-position type player until he was about 25. Then it seems he fell off a cliff and the MB we had the last 3 years (and Pitt last year) wasn't the same player. So hopefully Amos doesn't follow MB's path...
  23. It would have to be a very small deal where you'd expect him fully healthy for only 8-10 games.
  24. Honestly, it wouldn't break my heart to have Cobb back at a small deal. But I started thinking about our new offense... I think we will be using the 3 WR sets much less frequently than in the past. Wouldn't you expect to see more 2WR/2TE sets?
  25. I'm in agreement at WR too. Kumerow has a chance to be decent in the slot, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings to grab on in the draft either. 2nd round seems to be our sweet spot for WRs. But at this point, grabbing someone special at #12 might be possible too.
