  1. When did Haren join the cubs?
  2. I know there is a thread on this but this is a Yost bash/vent: Seriously.....starting Counsell at 3rd again tonight? He is just a complete idiot....there is no way around it. I can't wait to see the line-ups he throws out there in the playoffs.
  3. Sorry for the Yost bash. It just seems like he's so "by the book" with his bull pen. I've also seen him stubbornly stick with starting pitchers in the 5th to "earn the W". His use of Mota as the "set-up" man etc. This article is Yost to a T in my opinion. Again....sorry about the bash.
  4. I was down in Vegas during his last start. The A's were big dogs and Eveland was on the bump......let's just say they were dogs for a reason. I still put $$$$ down. I need to take the brewers goggles off. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. solid article and good analysis. Someone email this article to Yost....however, I'm not sure he can read.
  6. 1-5 (most favorite)...... Parra Gallardo Hardy Branyan Braun 20-25 (least favorite)....... Weeks Hall Cameron Fielder Mota Gagne
  7. Isn't Parra older than Prince and been in the Brewer system longer? It became apparent yesterday Parra knows much more on how to conduct himself like a Brewer than Prince. Yes Parra is older....they both started their careers with Ogden the same season.
  8. I'm not trying to be a jerk here.....but honestly why is weeks on so many peoples favorite list? He doesn't do anything well....he makes my eyes bleed. Again.....it's all personal preference, just curiious as to why people like to "watch" Weeks.
  9. seriously....could sheets have thrown anymore pitches? That's more than a little "Pen Work".
  10. I was being a little overly dramatic about the "Can't catch the Cubs" statement. Just voicing my displeasure for the Sabathia trade and feeling we gave up WAY to much. I'll stand by my statement that Harden is superior to Sabathia when healthy. Oh......you can't just "Take away" starts from pitchers stats....doesn't quite work that way.
  11. Harden is better than Sabathia when healthy and it's not even close. I think Harden is the most unhittable pitcher in baseball when healthy...of course that's a big "when". I think it's a great trade for the cubs and wish we would have gotten Harden instead of Sabathia. This just show's how much Melvin overpayed for Sabathia....and to think some of you were calling for Melvin to part with another one of our top prospects? Melvin got fleeced and if Harden stays healthy the Cubs have dramatically increased their playoff chances.
  12. who cares? No one is doing those things right now anyway.
  13. We are the smallest market in the game, with a middle of the pack payroll. People keep posting that "we aren't a small market", when it's entirely untrue, as we're the smallest market, which any number will bear out... fewest households, smallest TV contract... Many of us have reached a place where we want to win now and get to the playoffs so bad that we're losing sight of the truth. Sabathia isn't even the biggest issue facing this team longterm... I know this whole thing is out of my control, and I'll be curious how this plays out through the winter. I stand by my opinion that giving up top prospects for a rental is not in the best long term interests of the team. This team has a realistic chance of making the playoffs without Sabathia, and that's the route I'd rather take. Somehow the articless that show the teams which sell the player end up better in the end get dismissed around here... I think history bears out that the wisest course of action is to unload Prince for top pitching prospects in the off season, than burn our prospects on the "chance" that something good might happen. I'd rather the team use it's assets to aquire longterm solutions, but I'm in the minority around here, so it's time to quit "raging against the machine". This post is spot on and mirrors my opinion on the matter to a T.
  14. because Weeks never produced at this level in the Minors for this extended of a period. Good night everyone....good discussioin. I'll see you tomorrow. Sleep on this one Melvin.
  15. ACL surgery is hardly major any more. NFL running backs come back every year with these injuries with little to no probs. Could something go wrong...sure, but it's not an elbow or shoulder injury we're talking about here. Frank Gore (running back of the 49ers) had 3 ACL surgeries in college and now he's one of the most productive backs in the NFL. I have full faith he'll be back 100%. After ACL surgery the knee is more structurally sound than before the injury.
  16. I understand you logic....I really do, I just disagree (obviously http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif). As fans we really want this in the worst way. I don't think taking a gamble with Laporta or Gamel is a risk I'm willing to take if I'm Doug Melvin.
  17. good post Brian.....I don't know if moving Bush or McClung back to the pen is the kind of flexibility I'm looking for, but I get your point.....and yeah we will regret it. It's 3:30 over there guys...what you still doing up? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. I know I'm gun shy from being a brewer fan for so long, this deal scares the heck out of me. I will gladly come back and eat crow if we go to the world series with Sabathia on the roster, however, if we don't IMO it would be a totally failed trade. I still won't buy the "it was a risk we had to take". I just don't feel it is. Are we a championship caliber team right now without him....no way, I just don't think we are with him either. We should archive the thread and revisit it in 3 years, then have this discussion. The whole idea off this makes my skin crawl.
  19. I agree the ultimate goal is to win the World Series....that's why I'm dead set against this deal. We are not a championship caliber club this year. What good would Sabathia have done us last night....ZERO. Championship teams don't lose games like that, plain and simple. We need bullpen help and a leadoff hitter....that is where the need is.
  20. My point is ONE starting pitcher is not going to drasically improve our club or chances of making the playoffs. I think it's safe to say Manny gave us a pretty solid pitching performance tonight....didn't quite seem to matter. We need bullpen help and a lead off hitter.
  21. I've been a brewers fan for over 20 years...I think it's justified.
  22. These aren't just your run of the mill prospects....I have a serious man crush on LaPorta and Gamel....I will cry myself to sleep. They are going to be stars. Not sure about Escobar quite yet, although I love his upside. The same thing was said about Hardy, Fielder, Hart and Braun, I think that's worked out alright. We knew they were going to be good Major League players and sure enough they are. I'd trade weeks for a snot rag right now.....he will not live up to potential. I think we should package him and call up Escobar.
  23. I'm here because I'm a fan of the team....I just don't think we're a playoff team this year....alright with you? I also don't think aquiring Sabathia would drastically improve our team. Now if you're talking about trading Rickie Weeks for Brian Roberts or something like that...I'm down. We need a lead off hitter...that will drastically improve our team. 1 starting pitcher is not going to "catapult" us to the playoffs.
  24. and if we don't our future is doomed for another 26 years.
  25. we sure aren't large market.....who's the last "big name" free agent we signed long term? Hammonds, Suppan????? We can't compete with big clubs for big money...plain and simple. We need to develop from within and acquiring Sabathia is far from guarenteeing anything. If we aquired Sabathia and we didn't make the playoffs (which we won't) I'd drive to Milwaukee and kick Melvin right in the pills.
