  1. By the way, we've broken into the .700's. Our winning percentage is now .706.
  2. 17-9 is already such a crooked record. Dare we dream about 18-9? 19-9? 20-9? WHEN DOES THE MADNESS END
  3. I couldn't say it better than sundevil. WOW. Wow. I want this guy on my Brewers.
  4. What I love is that if one of our other starters pitches this way in their season debut, it's because he was "on", and had a lucky game, and we know not to expect it every time out. When Big Ben has this kind of game, it's because HE'S THIS GOOD. That is awesome.
  5. A couple of after-thoughts: - I think Brady's take-out slide of the catcher at home wasn't bush league, really. To me it seemed exactly like your standard take-out slide at second, only more heads up because of the non-standard base. That said, he might deserve some blame for either 1) not knowing that you can't slide that far off the bag or 2) sliding that far off the bag. But it's intentions like that that usually gets players praise for being "scrappy." - The point that's made from time to time about Shouse being a bad move simply because the opposing lefty batter "hits lefties just as well as righties" is not valid. That statement ignores the fact that Shouse is, and has been in his career, extremely effective vs. lefties - you have to consider both sides of the equation. Griffey and Dunn may be hitting lefties well this year (haven't checked, myself), but they haven't necessarily hit Shouse well. Well, that said, Shouse should NEVER face a righty in an important situation, so I'm not saying Ned's off the hook... NICE WIN TONIGHT
  6. How about last year, when in a much larger sample size, these were Howard's splits: vs. L: .148/.175/.246 (.421 OPS) vs. R: .323/.396/.645 (1.041 OPS)
  7. Okay, well, I can't defend Yost for leaving Shouse in to face a switch-hitter/righty. He did lose a lot of cred for that in my book. But my point stands; I bring in Shouse to face Howard in that situation 100 times out of 100. Let's win this game. Billy Hall anyone?
  8. Everyone here is always complaning about Ned using Turnbow strictly in by-the-book save situations. Now, when he's pulling an obviously ineffective and/or tired (remember, a lot of pitches yesterday) pitcher for a lefty specialist, to face a guy (howard) who is CONSIDERABLY worse against lefties? That's a PERFECT move. No matter how it works out.
  9. Bringing in Shouse here is totally the right move. Bravo, Ned. Let's hope it works out.
  10. I agree with Stevo 100%. Jenkins has been on fire, and he got a pitch he could handle, and hit it hard. Also, I'm as big a critic of the old-fashioned "save the closer" mentality as anybody, but I think using Wise there was ABSOLUTELY the right call. In fact, I was thrilled when I saw him out there; teams often are too strict with the "save the setup man" mentality as well and only bring him in in the 8th with a lead. First of all, you can't automatically say "bring in Turnbow" every time there's a crucial situation in a game. I agree with bringing him in in the 8th - even the 7th - with the tying run on base and 3-4-5 coming up, but if you automatically use him in a tie game on the road, you'll wear him out. On TWO OCCASIONS this year, he pitched in 4 straight games, and that was only in save situations! Second, Wise has been shaky here and there early this season, but last year he was unbelievable, and is still the guy I wanna see out there in tough situations. For the record, I even would've been fine with Capellan in that situation. Turnbow would've been fine there, but the situation didn't demand him.
  11. Okay, I don't like saying stuff like I Knew it, or I Called it, but as you might've gotten from my earlier post, I certainly Felt it. Going into the bottom of the 9th tied, at home, ain't no time to lose hope!
  12. Yeah, that was gut-wrenching. If we lose this game, I'll probably be pissed most of the night. But we still have the bottom of the 9th, so LETS. WIN THIS GAME
  13. Also, while of course winning this game would be incredible, it sort of takes some of the steam out of it knowing the Royals just swept the Yanks.
  14. And just like that, Doug Davis put together a solid game (so far): 7 ip, 7 h, 2 er, 4 bb, 7 so, 112 pitches. The only crooked number there is the 4 walks, but he's got the Crew in a good position to win the game and got through the 7th. That's all you ever want.
  15. Didn't see it - how was Overbay doubled off 3rd from a throw from the second baseman, with 1 out? The only reason he should be leaning towards home is if it's a groundball.
  16. squarepusher wrote: That's exactly what I experienced. And the best part about it is those long moments are blissful ones cuz you already know a run scored. You just wanna find out how. It's like getting a heavy box on Christmas Day. Way to get out of that one, Doug.
  17. SWEET LORD. This is too good to be true. Btw, anyone else find it interesting, the new kind of suspense that comes with following the game on MLB.com's Gameday... the last 2 at-bats for Branyan, it goes "In play, run-scoring play"... and then for some intolerably long moments I'm like WHAT IS IT? WHAT IS IT?? PLEASE SAY HOMERUN. And then the majestic line in bold: "RUSSELL BRANYAN HOMERS".
  18. 3-2 is the ultimate count for Russell. They should start him out 3-2 on every at-bat.
  19. Why didn't Yost double-switch, if Bottalico was due up first in the top of the 7th? He could've certainly gone another inning.
  20. Another double for Branyan. I don't even know who this guy is anymore!
  21. Wow! Yost going to Kolb in a crucial situation that's not the 9th! That and moving Overbay up to 3rd in the order and it's like someone taught Ned how to manage since yesterday! Let's hope this works out... go get 'em Danny!
  22. _I_ care, because as I said in another thread, I have a $100 bet with my buddy that the Brewers will finish better than the Mets this year. So this series is gonna be huge fer me. KICK THEIR ^$!#& ASSES GUYS
  23. That's all part of being in love with them, Fike85. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif We yell and curse because we care.
  24. On the Pirates TV broadcast on mlb.tv, I'm seeing Sheets topping out at 92, 93 mph. I heard something about his dip in velocity over the past few games - can anyone shed some light on this?
  25. Okay, the Overbay batting 5th thing is abominable, but the fact that Branyan is starting ahead of Helms for the 2nd day in a row is GREAT news. Because it's not about Branyan being particularly good, it's about Yost finally showing signs of ending his Wes Helms crush. A manager ALWAYS puts his starter back in after one day off to send a message that the starter hasn't lost his job - but here Helms sits. Let's hope he'll give Branyan more looks. As we all agree - it can't get any worse!
