Heh, at this point I kinda feel bad for this kid Bergman. I bet he had a whole bunch of family and friends cheering his debut. DOH! Okay, is it safe for me to turn this off? 'Night fellas!
Good question, Ajay. The only answer I have to offer is that you usually only see the stat as "GIDP"... which obviously a K/CS isn't. In any case, how many times is Santos gonna be bailed outta trouble? Houdini never had this good a night.
Hey guys, checkin' in from NY. Talk about die-hard, it's an hour later here. 3:30am. I was glued to the mlb.tv webcast the whole time. I wasn't on this thread because I'm insanely superstitious - I needed to be seated a certain way, with my video feed fullscreen and my mouse cursor in a certain place. I had to log off AOL IM so my buddy wouldnt interrupt. Maybe I need some professional help. I almost literally burst out sobbing at the Pods double, and then again after the last out. Not like for joy, but like I'd just had a near-death experience. Starting the 13th inning I was telling myself, it's just a meaningless baseball game! Any minute now my wife's gonna wake up and wish I were in bed with her. Why the hell am I watching this? Glad I did. Here's hoping that Jenkins' "performance" tonight doesn't mean what I'm afraid it might mean. Bernie
Podsednik moves into a tie for the team lead in long balls, that's great. Good to see that this Edwin Jackson's 95mph fastball looks straight and hittable.
Yeah, I wouldn't say this looks promising, but as they say - Don't Leave Early. Personally, Gagne is the only guy right now I'd say we don't have a chance to score 3 runs off of.
No, I think I was the one who jinxed him. I took a peek at his stat line and was marveling at it - 5.1 ip, 2 h, 0 er... when the walls came crashing down.
Geoff does it again to start the 6th. Even if he refuses to see it, I just can't imagine why his teammates, coaches, manager, friends, his DOG, don't just point it out to him? Okay, I'm done with the ********. Go Ben!
I think Weaver and Tracy have a legit beef with the home plate ump, he's makin' some weird calls. That 2-2 pitch to Moeller on the outside corner is called a strike most of the time. re: Geoff - how many times is he going to swing at the first pitch?? I mean he must have done that literally the last 10 at-bats straight! It's not funny anymore. I don't mind a player struggling offensively, but I can't stand someone being so stubbornly against the team's very positive attitude of plate patience. Does anyone know where we can get pitches-seen-per-AB stats? Geoff has GOT to be close to the bottom! Sheets is starting to heat up. We haven't seen that sharp curve in the dirt for strike 3 in the last 2 starts.
Not only did he look horrible, but he swung at the first 3 pitches AFTER ISHII HAD WALKED THE BASES LOADED. I usually hate it when he swings at 2-0 pitches when what we need is baserunners... but this time I SWORE he wouldn't do anything as stupid as what he just did this time. I also can't believe no one made sure to tell him not to swing at the first pitch on his way to the plate. Geoff is so in my doghouse.
I hope they keep Santos in. A 4-run inning isn't the end of the world; we need to see if he can settle down and eat up the innings a starter's supposed to eat up. Good start to the bottom of the inning with Podsednik's walk...
hey... can anyone tell me why wise was pulled after allowing two hits and a run in the 4th? i'm following it on mlb gamecast so i don't know whether it's an injury or not.
Luis sits 'em down quickly in the 8th! So... I've seen some good action on Vizcaino's split this year, but is his velocity down? I was at Shea for the Mets series and the stadium gun was only registering 90 mph for his fastball. Similarly, it had Kolb topping out at 92 mph. Was it just a slow gun, or are our arms gettin' soft? Kolb won't live long as a one-pitch pitcher if his one pitch is a 92 mph fastball.
Ok, I can handle that. I've seen Brooks look pretty bad against some lefties. It was a risky move by the Expos to walk Ginter to get to the lefty Jenkins, but it worked out for 'em. Let's hope Viz and Kolb can nail down the 8th and 9th.
hey... why did Durrington just pinch hit for Kieschnick? I'm watching ESPN's GameCast so I don't know what's going on. Seems like they brought in Brooks to pitch the 7th because the #9 slot was up in the bottom of the inning... but then he leaves? Did he get hurt?
