  1. I keep flip-flopping with Fiers in terms of what I think he is going to be/what he can be. I like him quite a bit and I think he's got a great attitude and work ethic, but even when he was 'hot' I wasn't quite sure what I was looking at, if that was the real Fiers or not. (And quite honestly it's sort of how I feel about Peralta, but I do understand Peralta's upside) All that said, I agree with Turborickey and Joepepsi's posts above in that I wouldn't at all be surprised if we've seen Fiers peak. His last several starts have been nothing short of awful, for various reasons. He looks tired to me, or that he's pressing too hard. His start in FLA I chalked it up to being 'home' but it didn't look unlike all of his other recent less-than-stellar outings. EDIT: Gregmag mentioned Edwin Jackson in his post above...I am a huge Jackson fan. I've always considered him an underrated guy and could never figure out why he couldn't stick with any one club. I would love him in a Brew uni but with Boras as his rep I just don't see it. I guess stranger things have happened...but I would love to have him here.
  2. What a strange game today. I was there (again) and it was definitely an odd one. First, the pacing seemed really slow. Both SP pacing seemed slow and it was making everyone restless. Second, maybe it didn't play out this way on TV but honestly it felt like the Brewers could've/should've been further ahead than 2-0 after the 4th. It just seemed like they left some chances out there. Again, could've just been my perception of being there. I am so thrilled they have won 2 of 3 in this series. Thrilled. The Nats are (arguably) one of the best teams in MLB and as strange as this might sound I think the Brewers are a better team for playing this series against them (a team of that quality) down the stretch. The Nats aren't just rolling over. The Braves are only 4.5 behind them.
  3. To be expected from the kid. Peralta was probably jacked beyond belief for this start today and I'm sure his adrenaline was off the charts.
  4. There definitely was a fair share of Brew fans there tonight. And truth be told, it's a much more enjoyable atmosphere to watch the Brewers opposed to Citizens Bank Park (just 90 minutes up 95) in Philly. The fans are much more respectful in DC. They just want to have a good time. You'll have goofs in any crowd, and people who act obnoxious to opposing fans, but the park there just seems to have less. I digress. I thought it was a really quality start by Marcum, which is EXACTLY what this team needed from him on this night. His only mistake was to LaRoche, but a lot of pitchers have made mistakes to LaRoche this year.
  5. I'm running out of superlatives to describe how exciting this team is and how this is all playing out.
  6. Completely agree. I am a pretty big Fiers fan and I've tried to temper my opinion of him based on reality. I'm not quite sure if it's a confidence issue with him or he's simply wearing down.
  7. Yeah, they are abusing Barajas. And nice to see Lucroy make me eat a little crow with my earlier post. I don't mind that a bit. Doesn't taste too bad.
  8. You can file this post under: emotional, having no basis in fact.... It seems like Lucroy has been really unclutch these last few weeks. Sure he had a hit in the Braves series that (IIRC) drove in a run, but it just seems like when he is in 'the spot' to make something happen i.e. the catalyst for a big inning, he hasn't delivered. Again, all that is based on eye, and no facts or stats to substantiate.
  9. I agree with Ennder and with Owbc. 1.) Agree with Ennder in that I also got the sense that the national media is sort of handing it over to the Phils, and anointing them the WC spot. I am forced to buy the MLB package every year to watch the Brewers bc I live in the Philly region, and the coverage here is getting obnoxious. The fans and media have been killing this team all year. But, I get why it's the way it is locally, nationally is a different story. I did see nice a piece yesterday in the Sporting News (online) saying that Braun should absolutely get NL MVP, but that he won't. 2.) Agree with Owbc that the Phils star power is a myth. Inconsistent bats top to bottom of that lineup. The Phils are still stacked with starting pitching though, that's a pretty big advantage. Their pen is nothing more than our own.
  10. So, so exciting. Baseball is a funny game. I can't even begin to think about football until this is all sorted out for the Crew.
  11. Many make such a big deal about who the remaining opponents are but in baseball, that is of secondary concern. For any given day, the Brewers may have a 50% chance of beating an average team and a 45% chance of beating a good one. Unless you get to play the Astros every day, it just doesn't make much of a difference. The Brewers coming back to make the playoffs is daunting because of how many teams are ahead of them and how few games are left. The Brewers took 2 of 3 from the Cardinals but the odds of them making the playoffs went down. BP puts the odds at 0% (rounded to the nearest .1% I assume). No, I agree with you completely, but at the same time the Braves are a pretty solid team and on a roll of their own. That was my only point. That said, I'd rather play a team H2H that is ahead of us in the standings...a game with added significance in making up ground. And yes, the Phils get the Marlins, but even if they win those games it could literally 'do nothing' for them in terms of making up actual ground.
  12. Really tough loss, but there is still hope. That said, it's a little more daunting knowing the schedule we have coming up and comparing it to what the Phillies have. I didn't even watch a down of football yesterday because I was glued to this game. After it ended, I wasn't in the mood for any more sports.
  13. Dumb question guys, but does Ueck's call legally stream anywhere on the internet? Thanks in advance.
  14. It was an excellent game from an intrigue and drama standpoint. I have all these little 'proud moments' over the course of a season, and I couldn't have been more proud of how the team kept responding. I thought they could have rolled over several times, but they kept fighting. I do wonder about STL's psyche coming into tonight's game. In that context, I kept thinking how devastating it could've been - and how it would have boded for the series - from the Brew's standpoint to drop the first game in that fashion. I think/hope it gives them an unbelievable boost for the next 2.
  15. I haven't read this entire thread but do some actually think 2013 is already a 'lost' season? Seriously?
  16. I care too and want to see them play well the rest of the way - playoffs or no playoffs. But then again, I am a stepford. It's part of my DNA as a Brewers fan.
  17. I thought it was a pretty unfocused effort from start to finish from just about everyone. Definitely not nit picking anything in particular, because everyone seemed off, but there was no discipline at the dish or in the field. Fiers struggled and I don't know if he was juiced to be 'home' or what. It was frustrating because the Marlins have been starving for runs lately. After the weekend series with the Bucs, the Brewers suddenly found/find themselves with new life in the wild card chase and it was a little disappointing to see the effort they turned in yesterday in light of that. Is it the end of the world? Of course not. The Brewers have been one of (if not the single most) hottest teams in the NL. I am interested to see how they respond tonight.
  18. I'm sure no one cares, but they are explaining on the Marlins feed that the reason they took the 7th run off the board is because Hart's foot touched the base before his glove hit Lee's hand, making it a force. So the run comes off. But the tag is irrelevant anyway, and no one understood why the home plate umpire thought 'timing play' was in effect.
  19. Marlins have been such an offensively challenged team lately. This is really frustrating. Just like that, 6-2.
