  1. Love this move for a variety of reasons. Not the least of which is bye-bye Casey.
  2. Much like 95% of the board wanted Yuni gone, I want McGehee out of here in the worst way. He is simply awful.
  3. Hitting equivalent of Yuni, but defensively not even in the same universe. Huge defensive upgrade at SS.
  4. With all due respect, I think you are 'amazingly overrating' if McGehee can get back to where he was. JHJ isn't lights out at the plate but he knows how to work counts and he knows how to maximize his at bats. McGehee is just a terrible baseball player. A garden variety, dime a dozen player that doesn't do anything well, and one who's skills are not simply declining - they've fallen off a cliff. He had one good season, and for whatever reason is able to live off that forever. If you don't watch the games, and understand the differences and nuances to JHJ and McGehee at the plate, I'm not sure what else I can tell you. JHJ gives this team great depth at many positions and is a wonderful option off the bench in several situations. Will this team succeed without JHJ? Of course. It's silly to think otherwise. But McGehee should not be in this starting lineup.
  5. Not to change the topic but they kind of had to to save money for Rinne, Suter and Weber. LOL, yeah, talk to me when the re-sign Suter or Weber long term. Neither will happen, but I'm sure you can continue to dream. Suter will leave NSH after this season, I can assure you. Poile will probably have to move him at the deadline, because Ryan Suter is positively not coming back. And Nashville's ONLY saving grace with Weber is he is still RFA after this one year arb award because he would be gone too. I digress.
  6. Couldn't agree more. Letting JHJ go, but giving McGehee another chance is ridiculous. McGehee is fools gold, and just a terrible, terrible baseball player. He should be working at Lowes. Honestly, part of me feels like Melvin has been conditioning the fans since the season ended to get accept the fact that the Brewers aren't going to spend any money. If you read all of his public statements since the NLCS ended all the signs are there, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. If any of you guys follow hockey, it's exactly the path the Nashville Predators went. After coming so close to advancing to the Western Conference Finals last year, all they needed to add was one 'legit' first line scorer, and they would have been a force in the West. So, what did they do? Not only did they NOT add that scorer, they subtracted other talent and took chances on bargain basement waiver savers. They went from having 9 million in cap space (last year) to having 14 million in cap space this year! I can conceivably see the Brewers using this season to 'save' money. Just a feeling I get.
  7. Greinke will be fine, it's Marcum that needs to go. I'd trade him for a 6 pack of Schlitz...and it wouldn't even have to be cold.
  8. Or the Phillies, when Ryan Howard's extension kicks in this coming season. That contract was flat out immovable even before the achilles injury. Now, they'll eat every bite of it.
  9. I agree with Robin19, 'protection' is the most overrated concept in professional baseball. The protection theory has been disproven time and time again. I don't dislike Prince, but that money is better spent elsewhere on this team. It's silly to tie up that kind of money in Prince. And I can't believe I am going to say this, (in fact, it kills me to say this) but all things being equal, Pujols represents better value for teams looking to spend similar money.
  10. Both BA's call and Ueck's call gave me chills. I literally got teary eyed with joy, and I am a 37 year old grown man with children. My wife thinks I'm nuts. LOL
  11. For the life of me, I can't tell if this is sarcasm. There's no way in the world this is a serious post.
  12. I am firmly entrenched in this camp as well. Just odd timing. Sure, his honesty is wonderful, but not really necessary given the context of everything else going on. I mentioned before, if Boras conned an MLB GM into giving Jayson Werth 128 million, I shudder to think what he's going to get for Prince. If the Brewers do get Lance Berkman, is it really that much of dropoff in production at the plate? Defensively, it's a wash.
  13. I couldn't disagree more. I don't know how long you've followed organized sports, or if you've ever been a part of a team, but you want your leaders to act like real leaders. Prince's comments are pretty ill timed, and gives a small indication of where his head is. See my post about Sabathia above. And don't kid yourself, they are getting paid regardless of what they do down the stretch. It's a little naive to think otherwise. Prince could go 0-rest of season, and he's still getting 100+mil. Believe that.
  14. People think I'm nuts, but I'd rather keep Betancourt and sit McGehee if I had to choose between the two. But I won't belabor that point. They are both in the lineup, and I expect them to remain there for better and worse. And what part don't you buy? I don't follow how it relates to the 5-0 stretch against PIT and LAD. They are all gripping their bats into sawdust. Just about every batter in the lineup is pressing, and they are admitting as much. As far as the 'true colors' comment, that was in reference to how some of these guys are handling themselves in the media.
  15. One last thought on the Prince thing...he is supposed to be a leader on this team. As such, you don't say those kinds of things given the context - and big picture - of the team's current situation. Without researching it this very minute, I'm pretty sure Sabathia said something to the effect of 'we'll worry about next season later, 'we are worried about making the playoffs now' when he was pressed about re-signing in MKE. Regardless what happens this year, I love this team. Love them through and through.
  16. Unfortunately, not many people believe the Brewers are for real (anymore) heading into the playoffs. They are stumbling badly. And regardless what side of the fence any of us are on (super fan vs chicken littles), we all know there is an undulating feeling of trouble heading into the post season. It's real, and it's palpable. KRod shooting his mouth off to reporters about his unhappiness instead of going to RR, then Prince telling the world today this is "probably his last year" with the Brewers...all the while the team is in the heat of a pennant chase. This team is folding, and I am surprised. For such a self proclaimed 'loose' bunch, not only are they gripping those bats into sawdust, they are showing their true colors, mentally.
  17. Casey McGehee isn't even an MLB player. He isn't even playing at single A level. More like summer, legion ball. It's hilariously absurd how bad he is at this point. I had some beers with Phils fans tonight and they were literally laughing out loud over how bad Casey McGehee is, and they have no idea what Brewers fans think of the guy, that was the irony.
  18. Veteran managers have been questioned for much less. Local "writers" seem more interested in the increase in their Twitter follower numbers, in the wake of the Brewers success and subsequent national attention, instead of actually writing anything of substance.
  19. Obviously, I've seldom posted since registering a few years ago, but am here lurking every night. Love reading the GDT's, etc, and think this is the finest collection of Brewers opinions anywhere on the net. I just felt compelled by Ron Roenicke's ineptitude to post. He's a terrible, terrible, robotic, strictly by-the-book, not by feel or instinct, manager. He is killing this team, when it could use a spark from it's skipper. He is managing 'not to lose' instead of managing to win. He makes decisions on a flow chart, not by any semblance of experience or intuition. Just awful. Please don't construe this post as a mindless, pile on. That's not my style.
  20. If we had a volume of idiots like that on this board, I would stop on this board. It is unbelievable. it's basically the JSOnline comment section, but with cardinals fans in message board form.I've noticed the Brew Facebook page has it's share of similar 'sky is falling' fan-types.
  21. LOL Thanks for posting that link to a Cards board. Great read.
  22. Yeah, I have never seen sweat pour out of a hat BRIM like that!
