  1. When Gonzalez lined to 3B for the DP with bases loaded and no outs all I could do was shake my head. Can't even get upset.
  2. Agreed completely. As for Ax, I hate to pile on the guy and I don't want to be knee-jerk, but IMO he's just not a very good pitcher. He's another guy (the the history of MLB is filled with) that caught lightning in a bottle for one season or short period of time and somehow parlayed that into a 'reputation' or 'status' as a legit big league thrower and closer...only to flame out and disappear a short time later.
  3. My gut was 'why are you sending him???' but it was a well hit ball. Tough call there but I'd err on the side of caution and hold him at 3rd.
  4. I thought for sure Gomez yolked it in the bottom of the 9th. It sounded good coming off his bat, and I think he even thought he got it with the way he flipped the bat. It was an exciting game and a wonderful comeback.
  5. I agree Brewmann. I am the last guy to ever be a "fan" of Kyle Lohse, and have been against the idea of signing him since the beginning of FA, but at the same time I really do believe the signing makes sense for the team. Just like Mark A said in his interview, at some point you have to go for a little bit NOW while still keeping an eye on the future. I am looking forward to seeing what Lohse can do in a Brew uni. By no means am I playing the Super Fan card here, but I'm pretty jacked for the season to start. And for all the hand wringing on the money...let's let Mark worry about that. Why do people make themselves miserable worrying about something that hasn't happened yet? Or the probability of not ever happening? I see a lot of emotion in this thread (some of it bordering on irrationally silly) regarding scenarios people dream up that 'could' happen 3 years down the road, but most likely will not. And between Lohse and Yuni signings this week, a large portion of Brewers fans have been particularly insufferable. Almost as if some people are taking this all personally.
  6. Ah, so what you're saying is that much like Sex Panther, 60% of the time it works every time? Got it. With all due respect, it's posts like these filled with ridiculously bent and skewed averages and percentages that make it hard to take anything else you write seriously. I often wonder if anyone actually watches sports anymore or if people just have all their sabre metrics and fantasy sports up like a stock ticker all day in an effort to formulate their opinions.
  7. I am pretty sure they get our pick ... Which is why it is a horrible signing No. The Cardinals do not. The pick the Brewers have simply goes away, and every team moves up one. The Cards pick will come at the end of the round.
  8. This. As much as I was against Lohse, none of the young guys did much to give anyone hope this spring training. I hate to say it, but I look at Fiers as fools gold, and Rogers is just simply an overrated, bad pitcher.
  9. People will complain about anything, I'm convinced. There are posters here who can be so bi polar. Take a look around MLB. Just, for one second. Take a look around to see what comparable players to Gomez are making. Just because you dominate your office fantasy league doesn't mean you have a clue what it takes to run an MLB team. This is a good deal for the Brewers and I'm happy to have Gomez here for an additional 4 years.
  10. Buster Olney is the worst. Just, the worst. He should write for Gossip Girl instead of MLB. His writing 'skillset' is geared more for teenagers looking for drama. Look at the stark contrast of Heyman and Olney's tweets....Heyman flat out says it's all BS. Flat out, end of story, move on. Olney, on the other hand, leaves a little drama and gray area....he's not necessarily saying it's all false, or even discrediting the report for that matter - as Heyman boldly did - Olney's just acknowledging the speculation and that he's not allowed to report on said speculation. In the end - Needzzz moar Twitterz followwwerrrzzzz!!!!
  11. Couldn't agree more with every thought here. On one hand, I am more than a little surprised there is no starting market for Gonzalez, but on the other hand I couldn't be more thrilled to have him back. This is such an underrated yet super solid move, and one that is indeed a luxury when everything is taken into proper context.
  12. Excellent move. Outstanding getting him back. EDIT: In response to WTP's post above mine regarding RR's potential tendencies to sit Segura in favor of Gonzalez....I don't think there is anything to worry about. Earlier in FA, Melvin originally spoke directly to that situation. He said Segura is their guy, period, and let Alex Gonzalez and his camp know that. They were upfront with him about how many AB's he would/wouldn't be getting, as Segura is the starter.
  13. I agree with others, positively not on Lohse at any price. As for 1B, I don't necessarily have a preference there, but I will say Jim Thome isn't the guy, for several reasons. Not the least of which is that he's got nothing left in the tank and the Phils were doing him a favor by getting him to an AL team last year. He's done.
  14. Speculation on my part, but I am guessing Melvin and the medical staff have known about the knee all offseason. In a global view, for those saying 'well, we should have traded him', Corey would've failed a physical in any trade this offseason.
  15. Obviously DM sees very little value in bringing Marcum back, even at that number. Clearly, several other MLB teams feel the same way.
  16. Agreed, and that's huge. JMO, I believe Grilli was pretty overrated in FA. As for Gonzalez, great deal and solid signing. I read in a separate blog that the Nats were actually trying to resign him.
  17. I bought 44 albums in 2012, 25 were new releases in '12, and hands down my absolute favorite is from a Milwaukee band called The Championship. The record is called High Feather and it it OUTSTANDING. I hate to pigeonhole it because there are a lot of different styles being melded, but if you are into the alt-country thing, this record is right up your alley. It is outstanding good. EDIT: My top 5 favorite of the year 1.) The Championship - High Feather 2.) Juniper Tar - Since Before 3.) Mewithoutyou - Ten Stories 4.) Your Favorite Trainwreck - s/t 5.) Forgetters s/t Honorable Mentions: Gaslight Anthem 'Handwritten', Drowning Men 'All of The Unknown' I agree with the post above mine that Babel sounds like an extension of Sigh No More. There are some good tracks (Ghosts We Knew, Lovers Eyes) but for the most part not much makes it unique. And as for Some Nights, I've been a huge Nate Ruess fan for the last decade (The Format). I don't know why they vox'd his voice so much on Some Night....it was a travesty. Aim & Ignite was worlds better and IMO much more original.
  18. So now that Dempster, Sanchez, and Jackson are signed and off the market, any speculation where Lohse lands and for how much? The interesting thing (to me anyway) is that we haven't even heard his name mentioned linked to any team. I'm guessing he lands with Texas.
  19. I love the deal. Love it. Kudos to Melvin. This is in line with the value of the Burnett deal.
  20. EDIT: Sorry, misread. They are CLOSE on terms. According to ESPN. 4 years, 52 million. That's wow money.
  21. Who would realistically bring back more for the Tigers; Porcello or Smyly? Honestly, since Porcello's name was brought up here a week or two ago it's the one deal I was hoping Melvin could swing. I think he's a hell of a pitcher and I believe he would be an excellent addition to the staff. I've read that 'several' NL teams are interested.
  22. You think 2/8 for Burnett was a bad cost move? I think that's been one of the best value signings of the FA period. (JMO) That's a valid example for sure! Maybe my previous statement was a bit aggressive. I just don't know if it's a wise move for us, that's all. I'd rather save the little extra money we have and grab a starter (as I've stated before, I'm all for going after a couple high risk, low cost guys to see if we can strike gold to go along with our young guys). Just my opinion as well No, I agree with you completely. Definitely. And Monty's made a great point. My post was more of a passing thought/question. I thought that was a great contract for the Angels for what Burnett can do. But while that contract (IMO) was a good value - in context of the salaries we are seeing - it still appears to be more than the Brewers can handle. Monty broke it down nicely, pointing out that even 4 million would represent 5% of the overall payroll.
  23. You think 2/8 for Burnett was a bad cost move? I think that's been one of the best value signings of the FA period. (JMO)
  24. I'm thrilled he passed (or was outbid) on Dempster. I understand the Brewers position, and I get the financial aspect of being handcuffed so it is what it is. I posted last week that clearly Melvin has a certain financial plan and he isn't deviating from it. I can respect that. The deals this offseason have been inflated, all of them, but I still maintain Burnett at 2/8 was a pretty good value - especially considering this team's needs - and I would have been fine with Melvin making that move.
