  1. You just admitted that you do not like to go to OD because you don't like the extreme party atmosphere. So you weren't going to go whether they were playing the Cubs or not. Then you did not fall into my category of people that don't want to go because of the Cubs. I understand that OD is not for anyone. I think most people assume that Opening Day is filled with with a lot of 1-2 game brewers fans (although I would argue that is not entirely the case anymore) and they are there have a party as much as watch the game. I'll put it this way, OD for us seems to be turning into every Cubs game (no one knows the score, people don't pay attention, and no ones where they are). I could totally see why some people would not want to be in that situation. Sounds like you weren't going to go that game anyways. So you are fine. BTW, the words I used to describe a Cubs game are the exact words (literally) used by the usher in my section last night to describe the crowd. (edit: long nested quote --1992)
  2. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I complete respect that. I would suggest trying to find someone to split it with you. Maybe someone on this very site would like to.?
  3. To everyone who is talking about not going to Opening Day because all the Cubs fans I have two words...Man Up! Seriously, this is exactly why so many Cub fans can get tickets to Miller Park. This is the very definition of a rivalry. Its messy. Its violent (figuratively{hopefully}). It's crazy. It's Opening Day, everyone's in first place. You all are already conceding the home field advantage from a crowd aspect, heck why even play the game. I just went into the Lions Den (Wrigley) decked out in full Brewers gear. You know what, I took a lot of crap. So what. I went down and represented my team, no matter how bad they were playing. On Sunday after the doubleheader I thought about not wearing Brewers gear, in fact I thought about not going at all. But then I realized that if I did that, the Cubs fans win. Screw it, you go, you try to have a fun time, and if the team loses, then they lose. There are worse things in the world. But at least I went down to Wrigley representing. If you don't want to come to OD because you don't want to deal with Cub fans, then to quote a line from the West Wing, "God, I don't even want to know you." Plus, as I said before, most of the tickets to OD will be going to Season seat holders, very few will be sold individually. So if you want to get mad at anyone for Cubs fans getting into Miller Park on Opening Day, go look for the 9-pack and higher ticket holders. There, that is my peep talk in regards to Opening Day.
  4. Exactly how do the Brewers screw over the local bars? Last I checked they make a profit on the group outings they hold, particularly the in-demand games such as OD, Cubs, Twins, ect. Plus whenever they don't get what they want, they go to the media and throw the Brewers under the bus. Why should we do them any favors? As for the Cubs, just like this past OD, I would imagine a majority (about 75%) of the fans we be 9-pack holders or higher. There will be a certain percentage available for the online lottery as they have done in the pass, I think. If the Season ticket holders really want to go to OD and don't sell their tickets, Cubs fans will find it very hard to get into OD. Saturday and Sunday on the other hand...that could be bad news.
  5. Again missing the point of my statement. Let me spell it out for you. You have every right to HATE Ned Yost, but you sound like an "idiot" when you do not even SHOW him the respect that he deserves. To not give him any credit in the franchises' turn around is moronic and jaded. Yes Melvin, Jack, and Mark are also big factors, but he played a large part in it and I don't think it should be forgotten.
  6. Care to offer any evidence of your opinion? Brewerfans, MLB scouts, and MLB executives thought the Brewers were being hurt by Neds lack of leadership. Calling Brewers fans idiots is classless and way off base. The Brewers fans here at Brewerfan.net are an extremely intelligent and educated bunch. So players who have to play for Yost don't bash him publicly, and we should be surprised by that? If they were to share that with someone, would you really be the one they would confide in? News flash, you can be educated and intelligent and still be an idiot (or more accurately act like an idiot) like a lot of people on this very site do. Here is my take on Ned Yost. He was hired to manage a team that a major of people wouldn't want to touch with a 40 foot pole. He can into a terrible situation in which the team lost 106 games the previous year and had not had a winning season in 11 years. Doug Melvin basically said to him, "I'm not going to get free agents for you to win with. We are going to build from within and it is your job to make this team competitive again until our draft picks progress and we can get in the position we need to be in. Have fun. I'll talk to you in a couple of years." And Yost did the best he could with almost nothing. In fact, he he made a 25-game improvement in 3 years! If it was not for a butt load of injuries in '06, whose knows what that team would have done. Now to the bad. Yes, Yost made a ton of mistakes in '07. But as many baseball writers pointed out since then, they didn't have the horses to be a truly good team in '07. Outside of Cordero, their bullpen was a mess, the starting pitching was suspect (especially with the ear-infection prone Ben Sheets), and one of (if not) the youngest teams in baseball. They just didn't have the horses to finish the race. Think about it, 85 wins won the division. Is an 85 win team really that good of a team? IMO no its just a good team in a bad division. I think Ned has made huge improvements over the last year. Bullpen is still a mess, but that is more on DM than anyone else. This team won 80 games in 5 months, then like a light switch, just went dark. Nothing happened to the team, no one go injured (significantly), the players just fell apart. This team as it is constructed is no different then the team that went 20-7 in August. They just went into a funk. It happens about 2-3 times a season in my experience. Will they get out of this, yes. Will it be because Ned is no longer in the clubhouse, I don't think so. I just hope it is sooner rather then later and it is not too later. Ned not being there is not going to make Cameron stop striking out, make Fielder a better overall player, or make Bill Hall remember how to play baseball. So in conclusion, you can be pissed off at Ned Yost for the mistakes he made. If they don't make the playoffs he would have been fired anyways (and rightfully so), but before you start calling him classless, an idiot, and good for nothing, remember that he took this franchise under his wings, along with DM, and made it respectable again, playoffs or not. He made Milwaukeeans care about baseball again and he made the baseball nation remember that Milwaukee is a great baseball town. Ned Yost, like it or not, is a big part of the turn around of this franchise. And for that he should be thanked.
  7. Are we seriously questioning which game to attend? Ohio State Vs. Wisconsin happens frequently (relatively speaking). The Brewers in the playoffs has not happened 26 years!
  8. IMO, anyone who doesn't renew their tickets after this year is a bandwagon fan. You do realize that if you do not renew your tickets, your seniority will end and when the Brewers are making the payoff push again (and it will be sooner rather than later) you will have the last priority. But I guess that will give you all another thread to whine and complain about. The Brewers will be a competitive team again next season. Melvin will make the necessary changes to stay competitive on the field. Will we reach 3 million again...probably not. But if we are in the division race again next season, there no reason why we couldn't get to 2.8 mil. again or higher. Winning bring in fans, whether they buy season tickets or not. Plus baseball in Milwaukee is fun again (even though it may not seem like it now). Weekend games are the place to to be in the summer (and if you don't believe me look at the attendance figures on weekends). Whatever happens this season, the offseason (player moves, Packers games, and the great NBA franchise we have) will make it better. If you really want to go back to 20k on a weekend game and have your own concession stand, please move to Pittsburgh because apparently your comfort at the stadium is more important that a packed house watching a winning baseball team!
  9. That is differnt however because both those were both rare occurrences. How many games do the Packers have left? 16 How many games do the Brewers have left? 19. Plus you have to add in that its the Vikings we are playing as well. So here is another question. What if the Brewers were playing the Cubs? So the Brewers with a serious (and the best) shot at the making the playoffs in the last 26 years doesn't count as a rare occurrence? What is your definition of rare occurrence?
  10. Only full season seat holder get their exact seat locations. 40 will get something similar and 20 game holders will try to be be put in their same price category, but in all likelihood, if you were a new ticket holder this year, you were probably moved out. They lose a ton of seats to the media/MLB/other team/ect. so exact seat locations were not guaranteed. The longer you hold your ticket plan, the more senior you have and the better seat location you will get for the post season. Makes sense to me.
  11. I disagree. The only proof I ned is from last season. Ask the Giants (NY) how the first two games of the season for them last year and go across town and ask the Mets how the last two weeks of their season turned up. Mathematically, of course one game in the football season if more important, but if you are looking at these games and adding the emotional element there is no choice. It's the Brewers. And I'm not a religious Favre follower so after the initial few plays, that drama will wear off.
  12. Anyone that truly believes that the FIRST Packers game is more important then the ANY Brewers game at this point in the season has absolutely NO idea about baseball and the importance of Sept. Now if you don't WANT to watch the Brewers because they seem to crapping the bed worse then me when I was one, that's a different story and I can totally respect that. But don't say that the Brewers games are meaningless. P.S. I heard someone say at the game today that the Brewers should schedule their games around the Packers schedule. If that ever happened, I would quit being a Brewers fan!
  13. Absolutely not! Not right now at least. Until we have secured a post-season spot, I want the most seasoned and experienced line up out there, even if that means a Hall/Council platoon. This group got us to where we are now, there is no reason to think they cannot finish the job. Once we get a post-season spot locked up, then I would put in Gamel, Esci, Salome, Nelson, and Co. and let the good times roll. BTW, I have seen Gamel play at multiple levels and have no doubt that he will be an average third basemen...he's just not there yet. Which leads me to my question for all of you. Do you really think we should be sacrificing defense for offense at this point in the season? Pitching and defense wins championships IMO.
  14. I also went to Dominican and they did go the playoffs with a 6-3 record in '99. Baseball team was really good in '98 too. After 2000, the only thing worth mentioning was the basketball teams and a few notable track and field stars.
  15. I think Tom H. as good at his job. Not great, but good. That is all out need to know in regards to why he still has a job. His people skills at least in regards to the blog are not relevant. Would it be easier on him to be nicer? Sure. But again, as I pointed out awhile ago and others have mentioned, if you had to deal with all the crap he has to deal with on a daily basis, particularly from the people who think they are God's gift to journalism, baseball, or life in general, I'm not surprised it happened. In fact, I am glad he posted the guys name (email might have been a little too much). It is within his and the paper's legal right to do so (at least I think so). And think about this...if he had not mentioned anything about why he would stop posting or reading the comments, 95% of you would be complaining abut that as well and demanding for more info.
  16. O.k. lets get rid of all those promotions and advertising. However, if they do that, they would have to give back the millions of dollars that those companies bring in. And if the Brewers want to have any hope signing C.C. or Sheets, or evening paying Suppan or Braun's salaries next year, the tickets price may have to be increased. How does $40 bleacher seats sound? Or what about $200 Field Infield seats? There are a lot of things to complain about, this should not be one of them.
  17. As I start to get more comfortable with posting on BF.net, I have decided it is time for me to start my first thread. I read the comments on ESPN stories, Northside Baseball (which is not that bad, I know shame on me), and Whitesox Interactive, I see there are a lot of people that seem to hate Allen H. "Bud" Selig. I know where I stand, but since I am from Milwaukee and have benefited greatly from his works, I am probably not the best person to write his biography. So my question is: has Bud Selig been good for BASEBALL? Not good for Milwaukee Baseball, not good for Milwaukee, but good for the game and the institution of baseball?
  18. From a business standpoint, the playoffs are the most important thing. Anything else is a bonus. From a fans standpoint, we're obviously going to hope for the WS. With the rotation we have, the WS is a possibly. Plus when you consider that the Brewers will have to play Fielder close to $10M, Hart gets a big raise, Hardy will get much more, we will have to retool the bullpen (or at least pay more for it), and their (most likely) losing Sheets and CC (admit it), this year is the year to do it. I think next year will be a good year, but it will be difficult to be as good as this team is.
  19. Everyone take a step back and try to look at this situation from an outsider's point of view. Can anyone truly imagine how much crap he has to listen to and see on a daily basis, whether it is from the team or from the readers? From people making up stories and posting them on random blogs, then having to address them (his one BIG mistake in my book) to people giving him insane trade proposals to people just outright taking shots at him, I'm surprised he has not completely unloaded on someone yet. The blogs are for reporting up to the minute news and for him to give his own opinion. Furthermore, if any of you think that by voicing your opinions in public will cause him to get fired or in trouble, I think you are mistaken. You know that the blogs have only made the number of hits increase on JSonline and that equals higher $$$ for advertising. It's the shock value. While some of his opinions and thoughts I'm sure are true, sometimes I think he responds in a way to get people in a frenzy...and it works. This thread is evidence of it. So in conclusion, give the guy a break. He gives you updates, quality journalism, and is well respected. And if you still want to unseat him from the JS, go to journalism school.
  20. If Gamel ended the season at .320+, but made significant improvements in his defense (which he is making), I will be a happy camper. Remember, .320 would still be a .20 improvement over Brevard County. However, if you want to look at stats in Huntsville, check out the year David Welch is having. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy too!
  21. Mark it down...Brewers are going 20-7!
  22. Long time reader. First time poster. I have seen Mat Gamel play third base for an entire season and I had the pleasure of watching him in BP and in 4 games this year. I can say that I believe 80% of his errors are mental errors. The other 20% seem to be throwing errors or letting the ball play him. He struggles with the simple plays when he has time to think about the throw. I have nothing but confidence in his abilities and work ethic to become at least an average 3rd baseman, defensively speaking. Now in regards to his batting average dropping, did anyone really expect him to hit .380 for the season?
