  1. Beloit Game Summary. Linescore only, for now... Beloit vs. Kane County Jul 27, 2003 MID FINAL R H E - - - BELOIT 2 3 1 KANE COUNTY 3 9 1
  2. Another game, another loss. A much quicker game today, with Beloit losing 3-2. Kane County dominated the early part game, with their starter McCall, going 8 shutout innings. Going into the top of the ninth, it was 3-0, and Fielder hits a sac fly, Hinton with a sac ground out. Finally, with Gwynn on 2nd and Eure on 1st, a double steal attempt, the ball gets behind the 2nd baseman, and Gwynn attempts to score, but is thrown out. Rally falls inches short!http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  3. On what looks like a bad start for the affiliates today, Dave Nolasco loses his debut, giving up 4 R in 5 IP. Line score only... 5. Jose- I like moving Nelson up. My post was questioning sending down DJ. I thought the younger Gemoll would be a good fit, as he can handle 1B (replacing Nelson), has fewer walks than Clark in more AB, and is younger. Plus Huntsville is down to only 2 regular OF. With regard to vacancy in H.D., I hope one of the elder/rehabbing pitchers from Beloit move up. Sarfate has earned it, but also earned the right to be the ace come playoff time. Ballouli is just coming back from injury, so doubtful. Eric Henderson is rehabbing, and would be an interesting move, since he has already spent time in rookie and low-A ball before. He would really need to be moved up quickly as he will be 24 this September. Just a shot in the dark. Also Tim Bausher has been solid as a closer. But HD has Bystrowski and Backsmeyer for that role.
  6. I echo the sentiments about DJ Clark. He has shown good patience, and while he hasn't hit as well, he makes contact. I would have thought Brandon Gemoll would be a better candidate for demotion, seeing as how the two numbers are relatively comparable (Brandon with more power #, but also more K in more AB). This move now leaves Huntsville with only two regular OF (Varner, Krynzel), and HD without a 1B (although Villanueva played some). Just doesn't make sense. FYI, AVG AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB *Clark, Daryl, OF ... .244 156 21 38 8 1 2 14 34 46 4 *Gemoll, Brandon, 1B ... .257 323 35 83 21 2 10 50 28 81 6
  7. Quick update, Indy leads 4-3 in the 7th. Huntsville wins 6-0. Kade Johnson 3run HR in the 5th. Pedro goes 6 IP for the win. The consecutive scoreless IP by the Stars staff since Saturday now reaches 27, I believe. Beloit wins 5-0.. Carp goes 4 IP, Ballouli with the win and Hall with solid relief. So in the last two games Beloit has won by a total of 12 - 0. And Huntsville's last three wins have totalled 17 - 0! So far, so good. Look forward to the wrap-ups in the AM.
  8. Just some observations... don't get to add posts that often (work schedule) but I've read the Link Report religiously since its inception last year or so. I want to thank everyone (especially MassBrew) for scouring the sites to post news, stats, info. Anyway, the past week has been pretty amazing to read about in our minor league system. Now I know it's a sample of one week out of like 25 or so, but we have had outstanding pitching, hilighted by Jeff Housman/Jason Shelley's double debut. The Snappers have been playing solid all-around ball with the "Juniors" powering the offense. And pitching has been doing well despite Wilhelmsen's DL stint. And the team in Helena really offers hope for next year as well. Seven of the nine or so regulars are hitting .300 or better, and one of the less than .300 crowd is Guilder Rodriguez with an amazing OBP that's 150 pts higher than his BA. And throw in Dana Eveland, Justin Barnes and Adam Mannon (Arizona) and the DFE's are doing pretty well for themselves. Oh, yeah noticed we still have a team in Northern California. What's that you say, they won a game, oh good.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  9. Just finished listening to the Snappers - Kernels game (while stuffing the eTopps ballot box for Jenkins!http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif ), and we lost 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth. Manny went 7 IP, 7 H, 4 R (all in the 3rd or 4th), with 4K and no BB! He retired the last 11 batters he faced. Prince tied the game with a 3-run blast, and had a towering fly out in the top of the ninth. Tim Bausher gave up a walk off home run to the Kernels in the ninth.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  10. Well, I may leave the High Desert game info to some of you night owls. PS - MassBrew we miss you.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  11. High Desert and Lake Elsinore tied 5-5 in the 5th. Petty with a rough home debut. Lets hope the bats can keep going!
  12. BELOIT 11, CLINTON 3 Boy did those Beloit bats ever wake up. 18 hits. Just think how they'll do with Rickie Weeks and Tony Gwynn, Jr in the lineup. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif That's three for three in the minors so far. Hopefully High Desert can hold on and atone for a miserable late inning collapse by the Brewres to the Red Sox.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/devil.gif BELOIT 11 AT CLINTON 3 YTD YTD BELOIT AB R H BI AVG CLINTON AB R H BI AVG K.Bibbs LF 6 3 3 3 .281 R.Asadoorian CF 4 0 1 0 .296 C.Terni SS 5 0 1 1 .240 C.Ringe SS 4 0 0 1 .203 J.Eure 3B 4 1 1 1 .253 H.Lebron LF 4 0 2 0 .301 P.Fielder 1B 4 1 2 3 .288 P.Quero DH 4 0 0 0 .279 T.Hinton DH 5 1 2 0 .193 J.Senreiso RF 4 1 2 0 .250 S.Moss CF 5 1 3 1 .278 N.Gold 1B 3 1 1 2 .236 P.Esparragz CAT 4 1 1 1 .245 R.Shelley 3B 4 0 1 0 .229 N.Carter RF 5 1 1 0 .148 C.Jaile CAT 4 0 0 0 .213 C.Crabbe 2B 5 2 4 1 .235 C.Coughlan 2B 2 1 1 0 .258 M.Parra PIT 0 0 0 0 .000 C.Herrera PIT 0 0 0 0 .000 J.Huizinga PIT 0 0 0 0 .000 G.Hogan PIT 0 0 0 0 .000 J.Gabriel PIT 0 0 0 0 .000 L.Marcano PIT 0 0 0 0 .000 J.Alliston PIT 0 0 0 0 .000 TOTALS 43 11 18 11 TOTALS 33 3 8 3 BELOIT 2 0 0 2 0 1 6 0 0-11 18 0 CLINTON 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 1 0- 3 8 1 E--G.Hogan. 13. HUNTSVILLE 8, CHATTANOOGA 4 A come from behind win for the good guys. Brian Adams relives the summer of '69 here with a win in relief. Jeff Robinson with the start, but gave up 2 homers and 4 runs in the 3rd and only 4 innings of work. Corey Hart wearing his sunglasses and never surrendering, by going 3-4, and the pitching staff with a nice 9K:1BB ratio. 15. Hey just think about the attendance we could get if we converted the Brewers into a circus side show act... Witness, the dual handed pitcher! Amaze at the power slugging relief pitcher! (Kieschnick) And behold the first one man battery! (Tim Dillard as P and C) http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/roll.gif
  16. How about a little love for Noochie Varner! I think he set a team records for most hits by any player named Noochie tonight (previously 0 hits set by Noochie Varner in May 2003).http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. Although we had Richie Sexson, Brad Nelson and even Cory Hart playing 1st base last year, but we still drafted Prince Fielder, and it didn't appear to effect anyone's performance. I believe that the Corey Hart 3b experiment was started at about the same time, so I don't believe that played a role. I think these guys all know that the team needs to draft quality players regardless of position. I think Krynzel realizes that as long as plays like he is now, he'll be our future CF, and drafting Weeks as 2B or OF will not change that.
  18. It's interesting to see Sheets brought up because Weeks kind of reminds me of the Sheets situation. I remember reading about back in 1999 and at first everyone (well at BA, my only source of non-MLB baseball back then), was in awe of his meteoric rise. Then the doubters started to pop up, and eventually the "Questions" developed, like he wasn't even scouted as a HS player; he was a one year flash in the pan; he is maximum effort and has maxed out. Now, I'm not sold on Weeks yet myself, but as has been pointed out on this thread and the "Jayson Stark is trying to kill me" thread, there are a lot scouts who make a living evaluating baseball players and they like this kid as one of the top two in a two dog show. Of course scouts are proven wrong, and teams make mistakes. But sometimes, the player just doesn't pan out as expected, and that's no one's fault. On the other hand there's Antone Williamson, Kyle Peterson, Chad Green - those were Sal Bando's fault.
  19. The way I see it, for the past 4 years, we've done a pretty good job with 1st round picks, and the Jack Z. regime has faired very well overall. I have to give them credit for doing the right thing however they go about next weeks draft. Two things are certain, one is we have no say in who gets picked by TB, and two is that there is no guarantee that anyone will be a cant-miss prospect in this draft (a la Arod and Jr Griffeys and Mark Priors). So they'll pick who they believe is going to be the best pick at #2, and if it's unpopular (like Fielder) hopefully they prove us wrong. The other thing I wanted to add is that if Weeks is really asking for $6 million, I say forget it. He has enough questions that I don't believe he's worth that type of investment. I like the philosophy of the past few years of taking a great player regardless of price, but passing on a player knowing his price is too steep is smart and not contradictory to that philosophy. Taking a player who'll sign for less than market or slot value would be a mistake (look at the picks of the mid 90's like Kyle Peterson, Chad Green).
  20. The annual look at players with family ties to other professional athletes, this year focused on pro baseball and pro football relatives. A few highlights... Tim Dillard, c, Itawamba (Miss.) CC (now signed as DFE?) Son of Steve, ex-big leaguer (which we all knew already.) Enrique Cruz, 2b, Rice U. Son of Jose Sr., ex-big leaguer Would be interesting to have TWO Enrique Cruz's play 2b. Eric Young, 2b, HS--Piscataway, N.J. Son of Eric, Brewers Think Dad Eric has any sway with the brass? Joe Gaetti, of, North Carolina State U. Son of Gary, ex-big leaguer Toby Gardenhire, ss, Arkansas-Fort Smith CC Son of Ron, Twins manager Brian Schroeder, lhp, HS--El Cajon, Calif. Son of Jay, ex-NFL QB Pitches Mon-Fri, throws TD passes on Sunday for the Pack?
  21. Just keep feeling giddier and giddier after hitting a low on Monday night when some left handed Canadian signed with the baseball team that plays near the country capital, or something like that. First we get Justin Barnes. Then we heard that Eveland signed (great to have an insider!). We traded away our former CF for a couple of minor leaguers, and now we sign Mannon, in addition to possibly Dillard and Beresford. Feels like Christmas in May, but it's more like Hanukah, because we get more gifts next week (Weeks/Young/Harvey, plus our 2nd-3rd rounders).
  22. From BA's California Regional Scouting Report: I had heard rumors of him going as high as potential 3rd round selection. Not Manny Parra type signing, but few DFE have that kind of turnaround in one year. Of note, neither Nick Markakis or Stephen Doetsch, both highly regarded (now maybe the best pitcher and position player) JuCo DFE did NOT sign. A couple of players to look out for this draft (although Markakis is likely a mid 1st rounder).
  23. My fear was that we WOULD hear from Mike, but talking about how Dana was quickly moving up the minor league system of the Cubs ... shudder.
  24. Please don't let this be a joke! That is absolutely phenomenol! After reading that Loewen signed with the O's and not hearing anything about our DFE's, I was worried. My faith has been restored. We are happy to have you Dana, and Mike. (Of course if someone hacked into Mike Rizzo's account to post this, I'll be eating these words. But only a cynical Brew Crew fan would even write this disclaimer.)
  25. From BA Draft Notes: So I guess it's about semantics here. Is it until May 27 as in "before May 27" or as in "on or before May 27". I guess we'll find out tomorrow. Nightmare Headline, "Loewen signs with O's; Eveland & Mannon to re-enter draft"
