  1. The rules stipulate, "* All Triple-A and Double-A players are eligible, provided the players are on at least a Double-A level roster no later than Aug. 1. * One player below the Double-A level is allowed per Major League team." So that means 5 of the 6 must be AA or AAA. So of A players, one of the Brevard County players (Iribarren/Katin/Escobar/Gamel/M. Jones) can be there. Of the others, I think Sarfate is a no-brainer given his move to the pen, and the need to make a decision on him next spring. In addition, I'd go with Braun, Parra, and Palmisano. For the last spot I'd consider one of Gwynn, Krynzel, Drew Anderson if we wanted another position player. If we went with another pitcher, I'd go with Hendrickson, Ballouli (recently converted to pen and need to see what we have), or a young arm like ZackJack, Villanueva.
  2. Before it was fixed, Mass had inadvertantly bold -typed Chattanooga's record instead of Huntsville. Now we proceed on to posts about the games tonight...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. Quick question. I remember hearing a lot about Cody Johnson from last summers' AFLAC (?) Games. What is up with him? He sounded like a top 10 pick, and now is not on any Top 20 or Top 30 draft boards? (He's 23rd on the BF.net Draft Board).
  4. The thing that strikes me is that these guys (all the minor league FA's, not just these last two) are nice signing for AAA depth, and maybe a cup of coffee with a terrific spring training or overall season. But a few years ago we were picking up these players and plugging them into the teams (especially pitchers like Bronswell Patrick, Brad Woodall, and others I have no longer created brain space to remember the names of). -GBB
  5. Cheers Mass. I'm not sure what I'll do to supplement for my daily wake-up routine until next spring. Thanks again Jim and to whole Brewerfan.net staff who chipped in and added the unrivaled insight and perspective all season long!
  6. Hey Mass, not to nit-pick (because Lord knows I couldn't do the minor league "Link Report" even half as well as you), but I hope that Tennessee isn't the Cardinals minor league team, 'cause if they got Stephen Drew at AA, we've got a tought road for the Central division for a while. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  7. Check out the link from the "Your Huntsville Stars" thread... Stamler story There is always a bunch of news articles and general info in the different team topic/threads within this Minor League forum.
  8. While I agree it's a bit early to punch a major league ticket for any of these players, the truly amazing things for this farm system are that the following things are all occuring, 1) relative success in the W-L record (at least in 2nd half) 2) good statistical results for many individual players 3) many of the top players on the teams are not only the younger players on the team, but generally on par or younger for their league.
  9. From the piece on Darwin Soto Anyone know if that was the same Ralph Santana who tore up the Rookie leagues in 2001 after being drafted by the Brewers in the 42nd round?
  10. You mean Manny Parra's contract prevented the signings of others (Jarrod Page & Steven Kahn who didn't sign from 2002's top 10 picks)? Yeah Jack Z, et al had signed all but 9 top 15 picks (4 of those occurred in 2002). Although 2 were HS catchers picked in 10-15 (hernandez & bussiere).
  11. As far as Ramirez and Martinez, I remember BrewCru post that once a guy has had 3 years in rookie ball, he can't go back (unless on rehab). Also, I recall reading (from someone who sounded like they had first hand knowledge) that Ramirez is still rehabbing his injured shoulder. The other ones I'm curious about are Jared Theodorakos (did we release him only for Olympics or permanently?), Edwin Walker, and Tommy Hawk. Any news on them?
  12. If so, I heard his bite is bigger than his bark.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. Justin was drafted in 2001 by the Mets as a 3b, then drafted by the Brewers in 2002 (by Taylor, Jack Z) as a RHP, but after posting good numbers in JuCo as a hitter, he was signed by the new regime as 3b again. After less than stellar offensive performance, they decided to try him at RHP again (I think he has a 92mph sinking FB, but Patrick or Toby can correct me).
  14. So what you're saying, is he's the next Kyle Peterson?http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. Any stathead's know the last time the Brewers were 5 games over .500?? Also, if the Brewers win it would be the first 3-game series win without a loss of the year. If they lose, it will be the 4th straight series in which they lose the final game after winning the first two (and the past 3 series finales have been ugly, poor hitting, inconsistent pitching). In fact there have been eight times we won the first two games of the series, and all but one we lost the next game (the 2 game series win against Cincy included, we lost to Pit the next game). Edit: After reading Toby's post, I euthanized the "s" word with a euphemism 4 hours later, I could the mistake TwinklesTheCrewFan caught. If the Brewers lose today, it's all on me.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif
  16. Anyone hear any news on him? Two starts for Helena, and no Fermaint in the boxscore. Also I was surprised to not see Clay Blevins catching his HS and JuCo buddy Wahpepah.
  17. Well if Andy Bowman wants to play for Arizona St. then couldnt he be a draft and follow canidate? Any player who attends one class at a 4-year college program is ineligible to sign, and cannot re-enter the draft until after their junior year (or in rare exceptions after their sophomore year based on their age). So if Drew attends ASU, he's gone until about 2007 Draft.
  18. Mass- I wonder if Tommy Hawk's omission is a result of his recent demotion from Beloit. Hopefully not an injury, just a delay in being assigned officially. I'm sure we'll hear (probably from you) soon on that. And by the way, what is our 2003 RHP Marion's first name? I've seen Ryan, William and now ?Robert. Plus Joel Needham appears to be absent from that list. Wasn't signed last week and reporte by MLB.com to be assigned to Helena?
  19. After only one day I am going to resign my official "New Nickname for Brady Clark is 'Rally-Killer'" campaign. Way to get us back in the day. {Note: This resignation is subject to revocation any time I chose}
  20. If we can sign the top15 or so and a couple late sleeper picks (or in Drew Bowman's case, a non-sleeper who fell), I will really like this pick. Here's why, *Rogers likely has the same ceiling as many of the other high end pitchers drafted. (That is to say everyone in the 1st round has the "ace" potential by some scout by virtue of being drafted there). But there were no gimme picks, like a Mark Prior, or even a Rickie Weeks at the top of this draft. *Arm injuries don't seem to discrimminate (although many Wisconsonites may beg to differ given the Brew Crew's disproportionate number of prospects flaming out). So Bailey or Niemann or Sowers could have a major injury next year, as could this kid (heck even JP jinxed him by comparing him to JM Gold). *He may take less time to negotiate with, and possibly a little less money to sign (maybe?) meaning a little extra to kick around to the top picks and a few late round reaches (like Bowman, Pryor, etc). So his upside is on par with others, maybe with a few questions, and who knows what happens with any of these first rounders, it's alway a crapshoot. So if we had a choice of let's say Weaver/Verlander and only a handful of our top 20, or Rogers and most of our top 20 picks, I go with the latter, because in minor league baseball quantity goes a long way. (Maybe I'm over-rationalizing this pick, but it make me feel better that way)http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  21. Yeah, you would hope the Brewers' scouts did their homework on the top 20 guys. I know I read that Wahpepah (who was a DFE for the Tigers that they couldn't sign) was thought to be seeking supplemental-2nd round money, and he signed quick. It's nice to see Baker and LeClerq in the fold quickly as well. With regard to the P50, I think that outside of Rogers and Gallardo who get credit for being 1st/2nd rounder, it would be hard to immediately justify top 30 billing for any of the other draftees until they have a few weeks of Rookie ball.
  22. Just as Josh Murray gets over the Mendoza Line with a 2-4 performance, Steve Moss goes 0-5 and drops below. Be nice if both these guys start to heat up. Good to see Heether with a decent performance 1-4, no K's in follow up of his 2-HR game. Seems he usually gets hot for a game or two, then starts have 0-fer's with a couple of K's. Sweet Lou is steady as a rock. Keeps gettin' on base day in, day out.
  23. Unless it's been posted, but I'd like to nominate a nickname for Brady Clark (unless he has one I haven't read)... Rally Killer. It always seems that when I see him up (on MLB.com Gameday, not in real life mind you) in a critical inning, it's some sort of bad out (ie a K when we needed a sac fly or grounder).
  24. I think Toby said that he'll include them in the Power 50 only when they sign. So Salome, Wahpepah and Baker could be in the next installment. But we'll have to wait (for now) to see where Rogers or Gallardo match up. I agree with Rogers as top15, but with the strength and depth of the minors (despite the struggles of the AA crew), it'll be hard to crack the Power 50, let alone debut at a high rank.
  25. Heether (11th), Trofholz (22nd), and Lewis (32nd) were all drafted out of college in the 2003 Amateur Draft. Heether spent most of last year in Beloit with Gwynn and Weeks, while Trofholz and Lewis played in the rookie leagues. Patrick (colbyjack's) profiles from last year's draft recap: Heether "Athletic 3B with average tools across the board. Above average defenisvely at 3B, and displays a strong arm. Also shows nice hitting actions with a patient eye and a quick stroke as he led the Dirtbags in hitting this season. For the season he hit .360 with a .463 on-base percentage and a .506 slugging percentage with 5 home runs in 178 at bats. He may not have the over the fence power necessary to be your prototypical 3B, but the same was said about Jeff Cirillo for years in Milwaukee, a player that Heether favorably compares to." Trofholz "Good overall hitter with a career. 381 batting average at TCU. Had a great junior campaign that made him a 2nd team All-American. Dipped a bit this spring as a senior, batting .328 with a .407 on-base percentage and a .446 slugging percentage in 192 at bats. Has pretty good speed, and is considered a pretty good defensive outfielder as well. Doesn't have much power, and is basically a gap to gap hitter." Lewis "Good defensive 2B that also has a little bit of pop in his bat. Is a smart overall baseball player that has average tools across the board. If his power continues to develop he could be an above average 2B offensively with strong defense."
