  1. Here are some of the players I hope we sign. I know that not all we be a Brewer this summer, but I'd like to see a chunk of this list signed. 1. Mark Rogers (signed) 2. Yovanni Gallardo (signed) 3. Angel Salome (signed) 4. Steven Chapman (signed) 5. Lenny LeClerq (signed) 6. Drew Bowman 7. Matthew Kretzchmar 8. Sean Morgan 9. Ty Pryor I'd hope 6-7 of this list (with Rogers and Gallardo hopefully part of that crew). Many of the Canadian picks will effectively be DFE. And it sounds like a lot of the other HS picks are likely DFE's as well. Should be an interesting summer/offseason with a nice (hopefully) infusion of young talent again. Great job to Jack Z and the Gang, "Team Canada" as they are being nicknamed in other threads. Edit: Now that's 4 of the "tougher" signs down. Let's get Yo under wraps, and 1-2 of the other 4 HS arms. Edit#2: Ok Yo in the fold. Now I hope 1 or maybe 2 of the other HS arms.
  2. Thanks again Taylor07. (Reason #309 why this site is the best fan site on the web!) I'm looking forward to following the Helena club this summer, we've got a handful of interesting prospects.
  3. A couple of players not profiled, either by ommision or demotion (hopefully) or injury (please, no!) Bryan Opdyke - starting in Az? Ty Morrison - repeat Az stint? I know that Carlos Ramirez is gone for the year. But any other Rookie league injury news? BrewCru, Taylor01, Toby, Patrick?
  4. Let's not forget that Prince was playing High scool baseball 2 years ago, and only in low A last yeat. This time last year Rickie and AG Jr were playing college ball, so this is quite a step for many of them. They are highly talented, obviously, but still are playing against highly talented competition. From the recent trend of AA players going to the Majors in recent years, I'd guess that Low A to AA is a bigger step than AA to MLB (despite Brewer management's contention that High-A does not exist). I think we were spoiled last year by Mike Jones' success from the Beloit-Huntsville shuttle. They're young, talented and hopefully learning from mistakes and struggles. I too look forward to a potential surge in Huntsville this second half (especially if pitching gets and STAYS healthy). -Greg
  5. First, is there a cap to the number of minor league teams you can have (I think there is at 6, but correct me if I'm wrong) Second, with regard to DFE, I like this trend that the Brewers have taken recently with a lot of DFE-caliber picks. It gives an additional year to follow them - you can find diamonds in the rough, and eliminate one-year wonders. We won't uncover a Manny Parra but every 10 years or so, but getting a Tim Dillard or two, and an occasional Dana Eveland is a nice way to keep the prospect pool rejuvinated. I'm all for spending the extra Draft budget on DFE's rather than too many big ticket high round draft picks, as the DFE process allows you to monitor the player longer and against a better level of competition (JuCO vs HS). Side note, I'm still amazed at the # college picks the Cards selected. That is extreme.
  6. I think it's interesting how the two teams who have been at the top of our division for the past several years, Cards and Stros, are in the top 7 for % college picks (the Cards way led the pack, in fact i think their first HS pick was in the late 20's round), then there is a huge gap, and the other 4 NL Central teams, including ourselves are near the bottom, with our beloved Crew rounding out the bottom. A little dichotomy within the division ranks, huh?
  7. Thanks Colby for defending me. I think I got confused. I remember his name in your piece previewing possible DFE at the end of the draft, but I guess he transferred before that became an option. Anyhoo, I overlooked Liotta. If I get time, I'll try to cross-check some of these names.
  8. Anyone notice any past Brewer draft picks that were selected this year. I know Jim (MassBrew) just posted about Hunter Pence who could have been a DFE player for us from the 2002 draft. Otherwise, any one else? Of note, I didn't see Luke Cannon or Sheldon Catchot's names on the draft board at mlb.com.
  9. 50: picks... the Brewers used a pick in every round 32: pitchers drafted ... 1: players drafted named Krzysztof Dabrowiecki 0: number of Canadians drafted that can play baseball for the rest of the season due to visa restrictions Getting all this information through the tireless efforts of the gang here at BrewerFan.net ... PRICELESS Thank you to all (Mass, Colby, Toby, Square, Bill, etc, etc)
  10. that's great, but IIRC, Jason Belcher only struck out twice in his HS career. And he's had one of the best BB:K ratios of Brewer prospects in a while (among those playing at the appropriate level or higher for their age). SO this may bode well for Angel. Heck, I'd take a catcher who's willing to take walks batting 8th.
  11. I'm betting its a pitcherhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  12. Mike -- I know you're Dana Eveland's stepdad, but I came across the name Mike Rizzo in an old Baseball America as a scout for I think the Astros (or some other NL Central team). Wondering if that was you, or a relative, or just another Mike Rizzo entirely. Just curious, Greg.
  13. Well he's lefty, and was a former 4th round pick (2000), so he has upside. Also reportedly has a wicked pickoff move to first. But he's 24, already missed significant time with Tommy John surgery (I think), and has not pitched well so far in the Cal League. He's even been experimented as a DH last week, so take that for what it's worth. But a left handed throwing Brooks Kieschnick would be nice (along with our other new "Brooks" in Ben Diggins).
  14. With regard to Heether's comments, Thanks Madbad. By the way, how is Guilder defensively. I know he had a rough night, but overall he is decent at defense. THe kid sure know how to get on base, his OBP has generally been .100 above his BA, and BB:K ratio is about 1:1 in his young career so far. (With all these injuries and struggles to our top level prospects, I'm getting around to really learning the low level prospects.) Thanks in advance.
  15. Lend or MadBad (or anyone who's seen the Snappers play): I noticed that Adam Heether is coming around at the plate. I'm curious whether he is a true 3b, meaning does he have the range, glove and arm to handle the "hot corner"? Even though it's low-A, it would be nice.
  16. When Jeff Fassero was warming up in the bullpen Did you mean Farnsworth, or did we sign Fassero to a AAA deal?
  17. Before last year's draft I did that task of looking at players drafted in 2001. I did not focus purely on DFE, but I believe all those who were drafted and did not sign. Here is the link forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=257.topic
  18. Now that is a pretty sight ... THREE first place teams. And what is impressive is Huntsville - it's difficult to "defend" a first half title, especially with the flux of core players (Martinez to AAA, Jones and Hendrickson on DL). Granted all this at the expense of High Desert, but it's been a while since we had a first place team or two, and if you count first/second half titles separately, then we have the potential of 5 pennants (Huntsville 1st/2nd, Beloit 2nd, Helena 1st/2nd).
  19. In fact I propose we offer Detroit a trade: Sexson/Jenkins for Dmitri Young, straight up - or maybe if they throw in a prospect, I heard they have some CF with great skills on that team. Then Delmon can play with his brother.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  20. If this were to happen, this is identical to the Adam Loewen situation from last year. And the rules (I'm paraphrasing, too lazy to look 'em up and cut/paste), that negotiations can continue until Delmon attends his first class. Then no "formal" talks can be made (but if his agent has other D-Rays as clients, then they can always "talk") until his academic or athletic season ends, whichever comes last. Last season Loewens JC team was in the playoffs, limiting the time the O's could negotiate. Talks are then shut off with any DFE candidate at 12:01 am, one week before the draft.
  21. On a happier note, this may set the franchise record for most wins by their affiliates in one day, with 7 wins and 1 heart-breaking loss, and excluding the run-happy Arizona League, the combined runs allowed in the other 7 games was 14! Again, I formally initiate the official "Huntsville double-headers on every scheduled Jeff Housman start day" thread. (I'll come up with a catchier nickname later.)http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  22. I am officially going to start the petition that Jason Shelley and Jeff Housman pitch double-headers for the rest of the season.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif But really - wow, two shutout on their debuts, solid follow up starts, and now the double-dip again with a combined 2 runs allowed. Also the group of HS drafted pitchers in Arizona is encouraging (Hawk, Wooley, Marion and Morrison).http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif

  24. Our pen better bail us out. I mean the Mets are only 2 games ahead of us for the race for the #1 pick next year. Oh, please bring in Vizcaino soon. (Sarcasm is both free and partly based in reality)http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
