  1. I think Melvin has turned us from a bottom dweller into at least a perennial .500 or better team with a shot at the playoffs in most years. But the burning question is.....can he take us any further than that??!! Or will we become the Twins of the NL??
  2. X ellence... I totally agree!!!
  3. If you are realistic I don't think the team has played well for a month. It's not like they have been winning series or stuff like that and this game is a bump in the road. We also need to become more consistent on offense and not wait for the 3 run hr all of the time. There's some overhauling(not rebuilding) that needs to be done this winter. But wait, DM likes his teams to be like AL teams and what the Brewers have now is an AL lineup.
  4. If Escobar is being traded, and I HOPE NOT, it better be for Cliff Lee who we'd have next year also. Like previous posters have said...if DM wasn't willing to give up Escobar for Lee or Halladay why would he give him up for Washburn(who can walk in the off season), and Morrow who is kind of unproven/inconsistant and not sure if he is a SP or RP?
  5. TheCrew07... Nice job at expaining your position. I totally agree about both DM and JZ being responsible for the derth of top P prospects. I never thought about DM and the year to year thing but now realize it and it makes sense.
  6. I thought TH rant was excelllent and to the point!
  7. How about Hart for Church? It would give us another LH hitter.
  8. If Rivera is that bad what is he doing in MLB??!!
  9. Or is it the GM "has power" over the managers, whomever they may be??
  10. Great posts, I agree with them all. Someone please put out an APB for Mike Riveria!!!!
  11. There's a lot of frustration in this post...I know on this board Jack Z has been given royalty status but Smokin' JJ is ANOTHER pitching draft pick that has gone down the tubes. Yes we have a farm system in the top 10 but at this point we are in desperate need of pitching and we don't have any in the minor leagues(yes yes I know we do at the lower levels but they aren't helping us now!!). We have all of these stud position players but they can't be traded for stud pitching prospects(I know Gamel and Escobar are untouchable). Who's left in the top 10 to trade for pitching!!?? Most, not all, of the great prospects can't play defense(very well) but would make great DH's!! As often as Jack hit on the good ones he's missed just as many. Anyone agree??
  12. The Crew 07 wrote... The system did not produce enough pitching to go with the hitting talent, and it produced to many of the same type of hitters. Many people are chasing something that isn't there in my opinion. But didn't we anoint Jack Z as the greatest talent evaluator of all time??!!(yes I am being sarcastic) Bottom line... Jack Z hit on some great hitters, not many of which can play good defense, and didn't hit on many pitchers during that time. Where has that left our minor league system?
  13. It all depends on what teams are there. This year it was a sellers market because of LSU and Texas who bring tons of fans(when Nebraska was there the chance of getting tickets was slim and none). Most of the times the games sell out in April. 2006-2008 was a buyers market and tickets could be found for face value from the locals who just wanted to get rid of them. It is much easier to get tickets for the 1pm games because the local season ticket holders work during the day and then go to the games at night.Yes you can buy tickets through ticketmaster when they go on sale in April but that is no sure thing either and it's very limited. You can also pay large amounts from scalpers. I was buying a ticket this week from someone when a scapler came by and offered the guy $10 for the ticket. I asked him why would he sell it to you for $10 when I'm paying face value $20??!! Some guy wanted to sell me a $20 ticket for $80, I just laughed and walked away. I've sat in everything BUT box seats between 1st and 3rd base and they all have been good seats. They also sell obstructed view seats that I would never sit it because the seat is tiny and the view is obstructed. Each day 1,000 tickets go on sale for that days games. Just an example I waiting in line 3 hours(8:30-11:30) Tues morning to get a ticket to Texas/ASU. Yes Rosenblatt is a dump but a dump very similar to County Stadium. If you really like baseball it's the atmosphere at the ballpark there. Something you don't get at Miller Park or any major league park. Plus because it's NCAA no beer is sold at the stadium, which in some aspects is kind of nice. The games/venue/stadium are also very family friendly.
  14. Just got back from Omaha... I talked to Khris in Omaha after they were eliminated on Monday afternoon. He said he WAS signing with the Brewers and that his college career was over. It was pretty cool I had to wait for him and the rest of the team to come to their bus and drop off equipment. I was able to fist-bump most of the team as they came to the bus, talked to family, and signed autographs. I had to wait for Khris, I told him I was a huge Brewer fan(he cracked a smile), I knew he was upset and dejected but wanted to know if he was going to sign with the Crew. I also told him if he wanted to know about the Brewer fans to check out the THIS website. I talked to him as he(and all of the Fullerton players) were walking to a house their alumni rented on 13th St. Spent about 15-16 hours watching baseball games on Monday and Tuesday out there. Sat with and met some nice people from LSU, Texas. It was a short stay but a short stay in Omaha is better than to not go at all. I tried to post this from the hotel Monday night and Tuesday but they must have dial up because the forum page would never come up!! Sorry
  15. Just Davis, that's it.
  16. I will be extremely disappointed if nothing happens this weekend.
  17. ColbyJack-I've been a middle school teacher the past 19 years so I have a great chance to go every year(as long as I have the cash!). If you can get there next year do it at all costs. It's the last year at Rosenblatt Stadium(very similar to County Stadium) before they move to a new downtown park in 2011. I will try to meet Kris Davis when Fullerton gets off the bus or after their game. The players/coaches at the CWS are very accessible. Just wish Erin Andrews was also as easily accessible!!!!! Joshua502000-Wish I could afford to do a week, the atmosphere at Rosenblatt and in Omaha is awesome!!!
  18. Anyone going out to Omaha for the College World Series this weekend or next week? I am going to be out there Mon-Wed,(that's all my budget will allow). Looking to see if anyone from the board goes out there. This will be my 10th straight year at Rosenblatt.
  19. I'm on board, I'd do it in a second. Of course I don't have the baseball knowledge that some people on this forum do.
  20. joepepsi- let me know what happens. At some point I will switch back to Direct TV. If I could get FS-WI full time I wouldn't even think of cable(as in the previous post I can't get cable though!). To me it's a bunch of garbage they won't put the channel on full time. Hell, I bet they might even pick a few more customers by doing it. Whoever started this thread(joepepsi?)..thanks!
  21. Yeah I had DirectTV for a long time and switched to Dish about 2 years ago because they offered a few different channels and was a little cheaper. I too have been emailing them every couple of weeks about the MLB Network and get the same garbage response. I have emailed Dish and Direct about putting FS-WI on fulltime and get the same response from both of them...it's not their call. I know last winter there was a thread about this on this forum. They suggested emailing FS-WI and telling them I wanted it on Dish fulltime. I emailed them and got no response...imagine that huh??!! I live in eastern Jefferson County and Charter Cable is less than a half mile down the road. I would switch to cable but like the dish for some of the extra college baseball games they have,(hence the CWSOmaha name!) Charter offices said I could get cable and went so far as to set an istallation date. The Charter installers said I would have to pay for them to lay the cable in the ground for a half mile, (nice huh? One says yes the other no). I asked the installer why would I want to pay for that? He agreed. Needless to say I still have Dish and when I want to sign the 2 years contract with Direct I will switch over to them.
  22. I think Macha might be thinking..."what in the hell did I get myself into!?" That TV gig in Boston wasn't so bad after all! (edit: exorbitant punctuation --1992)
  23. I am a huge Miami Hurricanes fans even though I lived in WI my whole life. I played D-3 FB with some guys from south FL so I was down there on spring break a couple of times. When people see me wear Canes clothing they make comments about the football team. I tell them they're okay but I am a bigger fan of the baseball team. About half the people have no clue they have a baseball team!!! I also saw his 1st game at Miami on Fox Sports FL. I probably saw him play 40-50 games on the dish during his college career at Miami. I've been to Omaha the past 9 years so I was lucky to see him play in 2003 and 2004(he was limited to a DH role because of injury). It was just a dream that he'd play in Milwaukee some day. Last year at Omaha I was able to talk to Miami's coach, Jim Morris about him. He said "Ryan is a geat guy, very intelligent, and self confident". Last fall I was able to email Coach Morris and he said he was pulling for the Brewers to end their playoff drought and that he was talking to Ryan frequently. I thought it was pretty cool a D-1 baseball coach would take the time to respond. Maybe college baseball coaches don't have the egos that most of the football and basketball coaches have. It was cool to see Yount, Molitor and Ganter playing when I was in my teens. To me though the coolest thing has be Miami Hurricane Ryan Braun as a Brewer, not just the player, but the person.
  24. Check out Pro Image at Southridge. I got my from Pro Image at East Towne last Friday. They just had player t-shirt's. The guy there said the place at Southridge should have them too.
