  1. While I have been very disappointed with Weeks and his ability to lead off, Tom H. made a good column on the issue of Weeks. Seems like Melvin is more concerned about runs scored from the lead off position. Here is the column from Tom: Added link; please include them when available. --1992
  2. Like every off season, It does not matter until the games begin. Yankees have had huge off season signing before, but the funny thing is, they have missed the playoffs.
  3. Too bad they didn't draft Jered Weaver or Stephen Drew instead.

  5. Agree 100%. Parra should not be the #2. He may also benefit from being slotted in at the 4 spot to monitor innings a little.
  6. Suppan will most definitely be a starter. Encouraging numbers for Looper the past 2 seasons vs. the NL Central 2008 vs. Chc- 25 inn, 29 hits, 18k/4bb, 3.24 era (4 games started) vs. Cin- 29 inn, 23 hits, 19k/4bb, 3.10 era (4 games started) vs. Hou- 27.1 inn, 35 hits, 15k/7bb, 6.59 era!!!! (5 games started)... Not good vs. Pit- 12.2 inn, 11 hits, 3k/5bb, 2.84 era (2 games started) 2007 vs. Chc- 27 inn, 17 hits, 17k/9bb, 1.67 era (4 games started) vs. Cin- 14 inn, 7 hits, 7k/2bb, 0.64 era (2 games started) vs. Hou- 24.2 inn, 26 hits, 9k/6bb, 3.28 era (4 games started) vs. Pit- 17.1 inn, 15 hits, 5k/6bb, 4.67 era (3 games started) Combined Chc- 52 innings, 46 hits, 35k/13bb Cin- 43 innings, 30 hits, 26k/6bb Hou- 52 innings, 61 hits, 24k/13bb ----- Definitely his worst opponent Pit- 30 innings, 26 hits, 8k/11bb
  7. He will 100% be a starter. He eats innings and Capuano may be a long shot to start a game this season. There wouldn't really be a need for him in the bullpen. We are actually set there and the pen looks real good. Starting pitchers Gallardo Bush Parra Looper Suppan Bullpen Stetter Riske Coffey Villenueva Julio DiFelice/Dillard/ Morlan/ Swindle compete for 1 position McClung Hoffman
  8. Very very nice! Looper gives us the depth we need. I can't believe that Looper is still out there. I would have thought another team would have offered a contract.
  9. My thoughts as well. Good deal for the Nats.
  10. I wouldn't want to give up our whole list of good prospects for Peavy. Sabathia is an exception because I believe he is 100% better than Jake.
  11. Don't care for the Mendoza pick up. He has not pitched in a couple years and is 36 years old. He only threw 86mph for the Yankees in 2005. I don't see him making the roster at all. As far as Wright goes, it is a good trade. 10-3 2.72 era in 22 starts last season in the Minors 13-5 3.85 era in 24 starts in 2007 He is a lefty and turns 26 in a few days Very low hr/9 rate WHIP of around 1.10 89mph fastball He did give up the 4 consecutive homeruns to the Red Sox but he only had only 2 starts above A Ball before the 2 starts with the Yankees. Very good pickup by the Brewers!
  12. I see that. Good pickup. We also signed Mandoza to a Minor League deal.
  13. I think Boras is realizing the market is not getting any better and the demand for his clients are running out. Time is coming for him to open up offers. Here is a look at all of his clients. List of players not signed yet Garret Anderson Joe Crede Eric Gagne Andruw Jones Byung Hun Kim Rodrigo Lopez Manny Ramirez Ivan Rodriguez Julian Tavarez Ron Villone Jeff Weaver Now a look at FA clients that have signed already Alex Cora... 1/$2M Runelvyz Hernandez... Felipe Lopez... 1/$3.5M Derek Lowe... 4/$60M Corey Patterson... 800K Minor League Deal Oliver Perez... 3/$36M Mark Teixiera... 8/$180M Jason Varitek... 1/$5M Brad Wilkerson... 1/$2.5M
  14. Report has it that it was mainly Manny who declined the offer and not Boras. 2 hours after the contract was offered he turned it down. You would think Boras would sleep on it and convince Manny that $25 million is huge and he won't get anymore than that. The Dodgers are probably better off offering a contract to both Hudson and Dunn.
  15. They both were recently dfa'd by their respective teams. Teams have 10 days to pick them up. Chase Wright - Started a few games for the Yankees in 2007 - Had a good 2008 season in the Minors - Does have 4 pitches - 89mph fastball Brian Burres - Started 22 games last year with the Orioles - Only a 1.26 k/bb ratio - Even distribution of ground balls to fly balls - 88mph fastball but a 71mph curve (17mph difference to keep hitters off balance a bit) - Actually worth 3.3m last season Are these guys worth looking at? Burres was just designated and Wright has about 5 days left.
  16. Peavy would cost too much for the Brewers. If they were to consider trading Escobar, they 100% would need to sign Hardy to a multi-year deal. Plus, as already mentioned, he is set to make a ton of money. Also, if you all want Salome to be in the deal, then who is our catcher next season? I already posted in another thread that I don't see Salome in a Brewer uniform but a poster did make a good statement. Kendall will be gone and Lawrie and Lucroy are a few years away.
  17. No way the Brewers will ever get Jake Peavy.
  18. The rejected offer tells me that Manny doesn't want to play for the Dodgers. he has had 2 offers from them 2/45m 1/25 They did pull the first offer. I wonder if they do it again he would take it now? Anyways, he isn't going to get more than 25m per season. I don't think the Nationals have what it takes to sign him. I strongly believe the Giants are licking their chops.

  21. Considering Perez got $12 million per season, that is quite high. Sheets may be looking at $8M per season according to Steve Melewski of the Orioles.
  22. It's about time he re-signed with the Mets. Maybe this is the start of the market opening up? Sheets will be next to sign. My guess is 1 year deal with option for 2010 with the RANGERS Perez settled for 3 years and $36 million... 12 PER On Jan. 12th the Mets offered 3/$30M... 10 PER On Jan. 20th Perez was seeking 5/60M... 12 PER Looks like Perez actually got the deal he wanted.
  23. As far as Cameron goes, he is our best option at CF without a doubt. He strikes out a lot but his defense is good and he still has speed. Won't be long until Lorenzo Cain is the CF. Maybe in 2010?
