  1. and closers are incredibly cyclical. I love Ax, but based on the current situation - if the right package is there you absolutely trade him.
  2. [quote author=PrinceEatMeat wrote: [/b]Pretty much everyone believes that the reports of the Cubs being interested in Prince and Pujols are just a smokescreen. Looks like you may be on an island with that thought http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. Wheh........ I really hope the Brewers don't go past 5, I'm not even sure I'm comfortable with that.
  4. First time I've heard anyone call Prince/Cubs a smokescreen - and a smokescreen for what? Pujols, they probably just kicked the tires on, but considering they have a new GM (who has a history of overpaying), a need at 1B, Svuem as manager....... oh, and let's not forget that thing Prince wants, they have $$$. I'd say things stack up pretty well for them - plus, if the brewers sign Aram, it takes another prince suitor off the market.
  5. yeah, seemed like he signed for far less than he could have gotten........... wonder if he wanted to be in FL.
  6. Ehhh, it'll be the opposite soon with Prince.
  7. Your comparing hypothetical salaries........
  8. Who cares who is better - would love to have either one locked up long term. Jackson is vastly under rated and if he came at a discount.................... I just can't see Melvin going that route under any circumstances, at all.
  9. Even more reason why I think they should deal Axford - closers come and go quickly.
  10. See ya later Prince - any NL team that comes anywhere close to that salary is crazy.
  11. That's exactly the type of deal I had in mind (I thought 3/$30) - Marcum still has a few years of well above average stuff left in him. I realize Suppan has everyone a bit hesitant to go with a pitcher that doesn't have a power fastball - but I think it's being overlooked at how well Marcum pitched last season.
  12. Why is everyone so eager to trade Marcum on here? He is exactly the type of pitcher we should lock up for 3-4 years right now, then let him walk.
  13. I'd rather see Weeks moved to the OF
  14. Everyone in the major leagues is very good at baseball. There are 800 people who get to do that in a country of 300 million. Yeah, but have you seen Kotsay's WAR and UZR
  15. Per rotoworld a 2nd mystery team has made an offer to Reyes - speculated to be the Giants or Brewers.
  16. Came up big in a number of spots for the Brewers - wouldn't have minded seeing him back as the 5th OF, but he can easily be replaced. A bit off topic, but it's time for Hart to become an everyday player - he's missed too many games over the past 3 seasons for a guy making $9 million this upcoming season. Only reason I bring this up is because Kotsay had an extra 50+ PA's because of Hart's health at the start of last season - for as much as Hart is getting paid, he needs to be a productive bat that is in the lineup everyday.
  17. Fixed that for you http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. I'd agree with you on Jurrjens but Prado had a pretty bad year last year (as I pointed out previously, in part due to staph infection) yet he was still a pretty valuable player and is only set to make $4.4 million (per MLBTR) - I'm actually a bit surprised they are shopping him. He lacks power, but outside of that it's pretty tough to find holes in his game.
  19. No, I'm not. The impact bat would be covered in Hart and they have the corner OF spots taken care of with Hart and Heyward. If it's a 3 team trade and they move Jurrens and Prado (and prospect(s)) - and just take Hart in return, they'd be shedding salary...... again, I said that Hart/Prado be the base of a trade and with the Braves wanting to move Jurrens as well..... there is a ton of flexibility there. Braves can posture all they want and say they want a Greinke package for him, but if they don't budge off that then they won't be moving Jurrens. The Braves also already picked up some salary relief in the Lowe trade - not saying they still don't want to shed some additional salary, but if they were acquiring an impact player (like Hart).............. probably a bit more flexible in what they would do.
  20. Don't you think that means that money isn't as important to him? If money was important he would've just done the trade. Or he believes he is worth far more than $100 million - which, to me, seems far more likely than him falling in love with Mil. in 1 year and giving a massive discount.
  21. That's fine, play Prado at 3B then and you have insurance if Weeks goes down as well - plus he can be an emergency OF as you stated and while he may have a weaker arm than Hart, I'm going to guess that he more than makes up for that in every other area defensively....... I'm basing that on the fact that he plays plus defense pretty much everywhere else. Also, FWIW, Prado is projected at $4.4 per MLBTR as of yesterday.
  22. It all depends on what Greinke wants - I don't think anyone on this board would have a problem if he signed a $10 million dollar annual extension with the Brewers...... I doubt he'd give them that type of discount though.
  23. Also just read this on MLBTR: Prado projects to earn approximately $4.4MM next season as a second-time arbitration eligible player. Looks like I was even projecting high when I said 1.5x's last years salary.
  24. He had a legit reason for the poor season last year (staph infection) yet he was still a far better player than McGehee.... even if your a WAR guy, Prado had nearly double the value of McGehee from 2009-2011...... sorry, but they are not comparable at all. Prado has a track record of success, McGehee's 1.5 seasons of success with the Brewers are starting to look like the outlier, not the norm. Prado doesn't hit HR's but outside of that, you'll have a tough time finding fault in his game - when only Braun and Pujols have more doubles over the course of 2 seasons (from 2009-2010) the guy should garner some respect offensively. FWIW, I also never said it should be a straight up trade, but part of the purpose would be salary relief.
