  1. You can't put this on RR - he has to play these guys and he can only play the guys on his roster. It's Melvin's job to give RR quality players. That said, a number of quality players were available - Furcal was a PERFECT fit and not only did we pass, we let a division rival get him for a fringe prospect. Blows my mind that Melvin wouldn't do that..........
  2. If nothing happens in the next 17 minutes, I don't see the Brewers making the playoffs.
  3. Not if we make a deep playoff run...Green cannot hit lefties at all bro. One would think that a guy with an 82' Avatar would appreciate making the playoffs. Taylor Green is having a nice year in AAA. I doubt very much though he will be a good everyday 3rd basemen. We have a major need at 3b right now........ that is the ONLY reason I'd be pissed if Green is included. Having a 3b that can't hit lefties is better than having a 3b that can't hit lefties or righties and has legs made of solid concrete on D.
  4. I never said Jackson would have filled a need on the Brewers - sorry if I implied that - the Cardinals had a need, and they filled it with a quality player. Brewers have a need and they haven't filled it. That's my point - I guess when I look at things objectively I see the Cardinals improving a lot more than the Brewers did in the past week. I could really care less about who got better value for marginal players at this point. I know some have pointed out the cards bullpen - but they are still working on Bell......... If they land a reliever in the next few hours I don't see how they aren't the favorites for the division.
  5. Our starting 3B is still McGehee and our starting SS is still Betancourt. Nobody should be happy with Melvin's performance at the deadline thus far.
  6. We don't know what is going back to New York, so you can't really say that. When you look at the whole picture right now, Cardinals added a lot more talent than the Brewers did. Simple as that. Also, if it turns out Taylor Green was included as PTBNL - then I think Melvin did a lot worse all things considered.
  7. I'd gladly take Edwin Jackson alone over that trio for the brewers - he's far more valuable than any of those guys, throw in Furcal............... I don't really even get how anyone could try and say they are on the same level.
  8. It's a huge improvement from Overbay - they are also hot after Kubel.
  9. I'm flat out shocked - this is it Melvin, really!?!?!? Pirates got better by adding Lee and are hot after Kubel - they'll be tougher than people think and if they can land a pitcher yet....... they aren't going away. Cards improve by landing Edwin Jackson and now Furcal. I like Hairston, don't get me wrong, but if this is it....... I'm not sure I like the Brewers chances of making the postseason.
  10. Huh? Their attendance is already down - way down actually. Down 8,000 fans per game from 2 seasons ago. Most of their fanbase expected them to sell off Reyes, Beltran and K-Rod, in fact I'd say most are surprised they are keeping him and now the deadline is here without the extension that they said they wanted to do. Agree to disagree - but I have zero doubt that if a someone came knocking with a blockbuster package, they'd deliver Reyes gift wrapped. They are sitting on the best SS in the league that could put a contending team in the world series though and he'll also give you comp picks at the end of the season - so he wouldn't come cheaply. They'd also save roughly $5 million by trading him - for a team in financial trouble, it helps. It's really just a matter if someone is willing to give up a top prospect - if the redbirds would have called up and offered up Shelby Miller for example, I'm sure they'd of got a deal done.
  11. They also said they want to sign him to an extension a month ago..... nothing more than posturing. He's still a FA at the end of the year and they won't hesitate to deal him if someone offers a good enough package.
  12. I like Melvin's stance with the Dodgers if they are playing hardball - they are the ones in financial trouble, they'll deal Furcal to the highest bidder before the deadline tomorrow. I actually see them dumping as much as possible before the deadline and I think it's nothing more than posturing right now. I still expect things for Reyes to get intense pretty quickly.
  13. Plus, if you look at the Greinke deal and how the news broke on that, it's pretty clear the Brewers front office can keep things tight lipped when they want to.
  14. Yeah, this is what makes me think something big is cooking - especially since the rival exec made a comment about how Mark A going for it in regards to the Beltran deal. I have a feeling Mark is opening up the checkbook and telling Melvin to get it done. At worse, I think we see Furcal by tomorrow with minimal prospects going back and the Brewers eat most of the contract but I've just got a feeling that Melvin/Mark A are working on something big.
  15. Now I won't be surprised.Oh you will, cause it's gonna be right when you say "man, that guy on the interwebs was wrong" - then BAM!
  16. I think we see a big move late this evening that will surprise all of us.
  17. I really don't get why people would want Dunn....... what the heck would you do with him the rest of this season.
  18. PLEASE get Furcal - then also find an upgrade at 3b or even give Gamel another shot there.
  19. If we did get Beckham, why would we worry about playing him at SS when the bigger need is at 3rd and he's already played there?
  20. I actually wouldn't be opposed to a minor league deal - then just bring him up for the Cards series for a few walk offs.
  21. No offense, but if the Sox were going to pay half of his contract, and throw in Alexei and Danks not to mention Vicideo....................... they would be able to get a package that would blow gamel/narveson/heckathorn out of the water, it seriously wouldn't even be close imo.(Adding yuni just hurts that package)
  22. Only way the Chisox would do that trade is if Milwaukee was eating all of Rios's contract. People are really massively undervaluing Alexei on here, heck he is probably worth more than Reyes right now with his favorable contract - he's signed through 2015 or 2016 and I don't think it even hits 10 million until the last season.
  23. What SS/3B help is out there and how do you know he isn't actively shopping for that help in addition to making this move?
  24. I blame the Cubs - Yo a few years ago and now Weeks.......
  25. Well, I wonder how much Rickie's injury impacts this potential deal. It's funny because I was going to start a thread about Rios on here - I would love seeing him in CF, I still think he has a ton of upside. Wouldn't mind seeing an outfield of Braun/Hart/Rios/Morgan for the next few seasons either. Granted, SS and 3B are bigger needs..... there isn't much out there and you have to upgrade where you can. Have to remember this move improves the bench by default as well. Really it depends on how much money would be eaten by the sox and whose all involved before you can really evaluate this deal and as long as it doesn't impact resigning marcum/greinke and hamper the team in that area, I'm all for it.
