  1. It's often said that scouts try to think of a comparable MLB player when looking at a prospect or prep player. I also find it quite helpful and interesting when trying to understand the projectablility of our own prospects. I'd like to see what we can come up with...here are a few of the ones I've thought of Gamel - Votto (ability to hit LHP) or Markakis (go look at their milb numbers, eerily similar at same ages/levels) Lucroy - Ramon Hernandez -- Good pop, plate discipline, low strikeouts Arnett - Adam Wainwright -- I like this one a lot, other than the fact that I'm unsure Arnett has that kind of curveball, but the power sinker is the same Braddock - Scott Kazmir - Good velocity, wipeout slider (okay, so the "old scott kazmir") Taylor Green - Bill Mueller - Solid all around Lorenzo Cain - Matt Kemp - Toolsy, although i don't think cain has that much upside Scarpetta - Chad Billingsley - Stocky power pitchers with big curveballs and heavy fastballs I thought of Cueto comparing to Peralta, but Peralta has a much better GB/FB rate. Obviously, these are upside projections; if these were all to happen we'd have an all-star team, and I don't pretend to believe that all prospects - or even half - reach their upside. What do you think?
  2. If that is indeed the case, the Brewers almost have to add him to the 40-man this offseason to protect their investment. He would have to be added in 2010, so this would be adding him a year early. or his spoiled punk client could just be a man, own his mistake, and stop smoking weed. rather than work around the system and make it so the kid can keep smoking and not get caught. btw, is there anyway to trade this guy before the suspension is over. this guy seems to have the will power and brains of a coconut. and honestly, he's not THAT talented. to be fair, Agent Josh Kusnick didnt say that about putting him on the 40-man, it was just an interesting note from haudricourt after Kusnick had left the chat
  3. plus escobar will probably start out at the bottom of the order, where we'll be a little more willing to take chances on the basepaths
  4. very interesting note from TH in the link with Jeffress's Agent: if he were on the 40-man roster, he couldnt be tested for "drugs of abuse" because that is a clause written into the CBA for the MLBPA. It's kind of unethical, but I hope the brewers add him this offseason
  5. BK i'm sure you noticed Carlos George's 4 errors. This guy is off the charts!
  6. i worry we'd give up too much for the injury prone Bedard. I'd much rather have cliff lee, as i think the gain would outweigh the increase in prospect cost we'd have to give up.
  7. I keep waiting for TH to come out in a fit of rage and put down all the speculation, as I'm sure he's getting tons of e-mails. Hopefully the fact that he hasn't is a good sign
  8. Or maybe he's being scratched for his "ankle", but they're really doing it to finalize the trade...we are all ridiculous, by the way
  9. lorenzo cain should also be off somewhat soon IIRC. I could see SD wanting him
  10. scarpetta had 2 HBP and 1 WP too. weird outing
  11. I was really wondering if he's still seen as a starter, which we agree he is. I don't really have a problem with the way they're SLOWLY building him up, i was just observing, and noting that Crew made a good point about how it keeps him further from the Bigs. Not to be a jerk, but in response to your 10% comment, DHonks, what percent of ALL minor league pitchers (surgery or not) ever see the big leagues? 10% would probably be my guess.
  12. There is no reason to think they're turning Braddock into a reliever is there? I'm assuming he's just stretching out, but wanted to make sure. Interesting point you make there TheCrew07, about him not being able to stretch out. Seems like a bit of a Manny Parra career path
  13. Anyone else notice that anundsen left after 1 inning? Stuff like that always worries me...let me know if you have any info
  14. I still think Billy would only bring little more than salary relief. I agree he has boosted his stock, but remember it's only been 1.5 months, and I think he's only boosted it from untradeable to being a movable contract. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see anyone giving up too much for him with 10 million going his way next year and his last two years haunting GMs
  15. I think Rivas, too, will be promoted to AA at around mid-season, of course assuming his success continues. As for Lawrie, the way the front office talks about him leads me to believe that they really won't be shy about pushing him. I'm not as familiar with the 2B ahead of him in the system, but I think they'll move people around for Lawrie, and I could see him at A+ within the month hopefully ending the season at AA. Again, I'm no expert, but that just makes sense to me.
  16. I agree, it's time. College relievers seem to be successfully fastracked more often than other players, and while Wooten isn't a power type, I don't see why we don't move him up until he's at least challenged a bit.
  17. haha, I can't help but laugh at that picture. They spend the better half of the article discussing his footwork, and then put that picture up where it looks like he's about to trip over himself
  18. Does anyone think he'll actually be up this year? I could MAYBE see a September call-up if he gets to nashville in June or something, but he'd have to have a great year to get to MIL in my opinion.
  19. True. The full season will tell. So far, though, the results are looking pretty darned good. The big question: If Cody puts up great numbers at AA (assuming the pwnage continues), do you send him to Nashville in July? I would, yes. I've always believed in challenging prospects. There is a fine line between rushing and challenging, but I think you have to keep players challenged so they don't stagnate or become complacent and groove some bad habits that won't play at the upper levels.
  20. From Bernie's Crew Interesting comment about his K-Rate, as he's struck out lots of batters this year, although small sample size warning applies, obviously.
  21. I'm also curious about Anundsen. Anyone have a scouting report? I imagine sinker/slider/change guy, but any additional info would be appreciated
  22. Done. wow, even better...it was against the cubs
  23. thanks BK, i should stop being so lazy and just go look these things up
  24. IIRC the knock on him is that he is a tweener. defensively he belongs at a corner, but offensively he profiles better in center. I believe he can develop into an average offensive corner OF, with above average defense. Not sure on the D, but that they've tried him in CF tells me he should be above average in a corner.
