  1. Where do people think Arnett ends up next year? I remember reading somewhere (I think just a blurb on Rotoworld) that he could make the Majors by the end of this year. I think that's really over-aggressive, but it's at least exciting to hear that. I'm just curious to hear what people think, Wisconsin or Brevard County. I think I'd personally start him at Wisconsin with an eye to move him up very quickly to keep him challenged, but the organization doesn't seem too keen on moving prospects mid-year. That may just be my mis-observation since I've only followed the minors for about 2 years, but it seems like Gindl or Schafer could've been moved up earlier last year, for example.
  2. Not complaining here, but do we have any idea when the next Power50 will be up?
  3. Lucroy nails a would-be basestealer...hope to see a lot of that next year. That was a perfect throw
  4. I agree with you Yoshii. Cain had a worse year due to injury, which is a big reason why salome struggled. If we're going to punish Salome (who i believe is younger that Cain, by the way), we have to do the same to Cain. Also, surprised not to see Rogers up there.
  5. IMO, scouts' comment usually seem pessimistic, because when they say "average", they mean average at the major league level. It's easy to be disappointed by these comments, but all the scout is saying is that Lucroy doesn't have a cannon arm or a ridiculous pop time. IMO, these comments are in line with the widely-shared opinion that Lucroy will be a solid major leaguer, not a star because he is at least average across the board, but doesn't have any particularly impressive tools (except, i think, his plate discipline).
  6. Add Gamel to that offer, Louis, and you may be on to something, although that's not necessarily something I'd be interested in. That's a ton of young, controlled talent.
  7. I love the idea of Jackson and Granderson just as much as the next guy, but that offer is way too light, IMO.
  8. Rogers got at least one whiff on his change-up, and got a lot of weak contact. Pitchfx on gameday showed good fade on the changeup, but I'm not sure how reliable that is. Still, nice to see him working all 4 pitches
  9. I would love Blanco as a timeshare with Lucroy, but I don't know if I would trust him fulltime. Greg Zaun is another guy that would fit really well with Lucroy in my opinion; I remember him saying he relished the opportunity to mentor Wieters, maybe he'd be interested in doing the same with Lucroy/Salome
  10. I doubt McGehee could fetch Nolasco, but if he could, i would jump on it. Nolasco is not a 5.00 ERA pitcher.
  11. I don't know how accurate the system is, but gameday showed Lucroy's sac fly recorded right at the wall...just missing a grand slam.
  12. The article says basically that Lucroy has passed up Salome because he is more well-rounded. Viewed as an offense-first catcher when drafted, his athleticism and agility "allow his average arm to play up", and he's developed into a solid defensive catcher. Still working on blocking pitches, but getting better; game calling developing as well. Grey says he could start as soon as 2011, which is disappointing. On offense, his weakness is against off-speed stuff; he can recognize it, adjust, and make contact, but he doesn't drive it as consistently as he does the fastball.
  13. Bill James projections are always optimistic. I imagine that's an MLB projection, but I wouldn't put too much weight in it. The guy's a genius, but his projections are flat-out over the top.
  14. I guess I didn't realize that D'Vontrey Richardson was a power prospect at all...i thought he was more of a slap-hitter with wheels. Very interesting, especially coupled with the praise from the organization about his instrux league showing.
  15. I don't think we can overlook Carl Pavano. He got really unlucky this year, and I think he could be a legitimate #3 for us. He had a whip of 4.00 even, and a walk rate under 2. The best part is that he could be had rather cheaply...I'm a bad judge of this, but i think 1 yr for 6-7 would be fair. He's better than looper for the same price
  16. I liked when he said Rogers will start in AA...then said, "don't forget, at this day in age, it's not uncommon for players to make the jump from AA to the majors."
  17. Lucroy finished 4-4 with a walk, a homer, an RBI, and 3 R scored out of the 8 hole...not too shabby... EDIT: Braddock also had 2.0 IP, 1H, 0BB, 3K (2 swinging), although he allowed 1 inherited runner to score
  18. I think I might prefer Cecil to Romero anyways. JJ for Cecil and maybe another fringy guy would work for me, but I'm not sure they'd do it.
  19. I don't know if there are any options on players like Jason Hammel, players that are out of options that don't have a spot, but we NEED to capitalize on these types of opportunities. Does anyone have any ideas on players like this?
  20. Not sure if this is the place for this, but i had an interesting thought the other day about Narveson. Obviously it was a small sample, but he really looked good in his starts down the stretch. Does anyone think he could be a Jorge DLR type? We were patient with him (being able to stash him in AAA helped a ton), but his high draft position and good stuff point to his potential. He reminds me a lot of Wandy Rodriguez, who also took a while to figure things out. I don't have any expectations for him, but it would be nice to have our own DLR-type story.
  21. Honestly, I'm not sure it would even take Hart. It sounds like, at least in circles of braves fans, they want to get rid of him and aren't too concerned with the return. They have "too much starting pitching" and could use the 6.7 MM elsewhere.
  22. weird...I always thought Schafer was a plus defender in center, if not at least average
  23. What 804sox said is obviously true. Aside from that, I really feel like the brewcrew might go hard after Lackey this offseason; either that or Harden. When Melvin said, "We'll probably take some risks that we usually wouldn't take," I read that as, "We'll stretch the payroll for a pitcher or take more fliers on incentivized contracts to injury risks (Harden)." I don't really like the Lackey idea Long-Term, but it would be instant gratification and make the team better next year, and I'm confident it wouldn't turn into Suppan II. Harden is an idea that I'm a big fan of, on a two-year, high-incentive deal if he's willing to take one, of course. But, along with him, we'd have to accumulate VIABLE depth at SP, not just Mike Burns/CV/Mike Jones/Chase Wright.
  24. X, do you really think they'll non-tender Bush?
